@@ElliotVernon It still delivers the fun and good times you represent. Not to mention that it's always exciting to see any concert from the performers point of view, so it's another good journey. As adrummer the metronome wasn't even bugging me. Watched the whole thing. 🤘 I know you were just in Hungary not so long ago, but I hope we see you very soon again!
I love this setting, too! Much too few people know, how it sounds for the musicians on the stage. @Elliot, a few questions Is the click track completely pre programmed for each show and just started/paused by the drummer? Or started newly for each song? I.e., can you skip a song if necessary? What software do you use? How do you generate and change your sounds? Are they built into the keyboard or do you have Ableton live or anything else running with midi? Are you using a Footswitch? Thanks 😍🤘
@@jankappen7970 The click track is just a stereo audio file for each individual song, running in an app on an iPad that our drum tech operates. The left channel is click, right channel is mono backing tracks which get sent to FOH. All the sounds are in the keyboard. I have a different patch for each section of each song, and they're all arranged in order for the whole show. I wrote my own software to edit the files for the keyboard and rearrange the patches. Then yeah, I hit a footswitch and it just advances to the next patch.
Every time you've uploaded one of these videos I find myself disovering little tidbits in each song, like keyboard melodies and it's also interesting hearing the vocals in the foreground :)
If you watching a video where the first thing you hear is "Let's fucking go, blazing squad wankers" you just know it's gonna be awesome 🤟 Shame I missed you in Czech Republic. Hopefully I'll se you live some other day.
Epiiic, just came home from the festival like an hour ago and now I see this uploaded. Still after like 3 days feels almost surreal that I saw you guys live, can't wait for the next one
Dude your vocals are impressive, such a beautiful depth it has; they're super clear but also maintain the aggresiveness so swiftly that you make it look easy. Thank you for uploading, hoping to see more and expecting you guys in Argentina soon!
It was an amazing concert and I had an amazing time. I am really thankful for having the opportunity to be there and see you perform live. It will for sure be one of my favorite memories, and I hope I never forget it. Truly THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart. The orange shirt lad from the airport.
This is so awesome, I saw you guys live in Den Bosch on January 29th in The Netherlands, and through this video I've now experienced both the party side and the business end of an Alestorm show!
Awesome video, always great to see these live recordings. Please try and record your performance in Adelaide, Australia when you're here in November ;) Cheers!
34:33 funnyfaces 🤣 (I was on your 2017, and 2022 concert in Budapest Barba Negra ... i think from now i will go every time when you coming to Hungary! ❤🤍💚)
It's an Akai MPX8, it has 8 pads and you can put in an SD card and play 8 different sound effects. I use maybe 6 of them, but only 3 main ones (sub drop, explosion, woof)
I can't wait for your tour to come to the US. I have one question, are your patches tied to the click track via MIDI? I saw you'd be playing with one patch then suddenly it changes. It's so smooth I can't believe the patch switch is done by a pedal or something. Again.. can't wait to see you in the US.
Man I'm kinda sad that Elliot cut his hair, but still this is tight. Hearing the click and the vocals, so this is obviously Elliots click and in ears that we hear I'm guessing. But this is seriously awesome to see and hear. Something you just don't see often or hear. Also is there a program set up to change the keys sound with the song in the set list?
I have every sound for every song in the show, set up in sequential order in the keyboard. Then I step on a footswitch to change to the next one and the whole show just goes like that hands-free
I just can't wait to see you all here in Costa Rica ❤️ I'll go see if I can catch you at the airport before the organization here stuffes you all in the bus :(
Are there other IEM recordings for the guitar, bass keytar and drums? I find it interesting to listen to the separate instruments just a little higher in the mix than the others.
I don't know if our high vocals during PARTY are more ridiculous or impressive. In any way good job on sustaining that during the song, especially at the ending, and not having your voice break
The audio in this video is a direct recording of what I hear on my in-ear monitors. We have a click running through most songs, so Peter can play in time with the backing tracks (mostly just extra chorus backing vocals, and a small amount of synths), and also to give cues for songs with silent count-ins and to announce the next song. The audience can't hear the click and it's not in the stage monitors, it's just for the band and crew.
Does anyone know what stand he uses? I need a forward tilting synth stand for live shows on the Kross and I'm nervous to pull the trigger on a $500 stand that I read the reviews wrong.
I noticed that in the Live in Tilburg recording, Keelhauled slowed down during the instrumental breaks. Is that why you have the click tracks playing in your earpiece, so y'all can keep time?
Well, partly. When we did the Tilburg DVD, we went through all the stems to check for stupid mistakes, problems in the recordings, etc etc to see if there's anything we needed to replace/fix/add to make it sound better (that's common practise for live releases, whether people admit it or not). In the end, the only major thing we didn't like is that our backing vocals sounded pretty naff compared to the records - it's just us 3 extra guys singing along with Chris, two of which are running around and out of breath all the time. So, we recorded a couple of layers of extra gang vocals for the full DVD to make it sound more beefy. Then we decided we should probably have that in the live show all the time, because it sounded SO much better, and that's when we started using backing tracks. There's really not a lot else going on in our tracks (except the synthy stuff in songs like Tortuga and P.A.R.T.Y) but we added lots of gang vocals to almost every song, and so obviously that means we play those songs to a click now. It does have the added benefit of keeping our timing more solid though, as you said yeah.
We don't play Anchor to a click so that's why there's no click in that song. As for the keyboard, what you're hearing as actually my in-ear wireless dropping out. You can still hear the mic from the GoPro but not the direct IEM mix. As you saw, it put me off suddenly hearing silence and I went wrong trying to get back into it!
@@ElliotVernon Understandable on the click, and also, it isn't an Alestorm show without something of yours fucking up, whether it be purposeful or not xD
