Perspective is an interesting thing, indeed. The description Alex gave of her character is completely how I interpreted her to be, and completely different from that of the interviewer. It's nice to see Bornstein in such a fully realized role where she's flexing her chops that stretch beyond comedy and reach back around to its comic center. Much respect to her, also, for being able to dig into Amy Sherman Palladino's trademark style of writing and hold her ground, you've got to be pretty fierce to not only keep up, but MASTER those scripts and deliver a character. Great show, great talent.
The interviewer couldn't even pronounce the name of the show correctly, doubtful he'd even spent any real time watching it. It's 'May-zel', not 'My-zel'. Alex is terrific on the show!
Alex Borstein's creation of Susie is truly a wonder. I long for every moment of her screentime. The show is extraordinary, and Susie is my absolute favourite.
What strikes me when I watch Alex Borstein, aside from her incredible sense of humor and amazing ability as a performer, is how beautiful her face it--those cheek bones! She is a gorgeous, gorgeous woman. I love listening to her talk about her Jewish heritage. She is so articulate, so warm and passionate and so dignified.
Luv ALEX BORSTEIN MAD TV's Miss Swan :) I knew that she was familiar to me but I could not place her until OMFG I remembered her Alex was the funny af little Asian Woman character Miss Swan on the TV skit show MAD TV I Loved her character Miss Swan: "owww okay, okay sure. you, you look like ah man." I had no, no intention on watching the first episode of this new show but I did because of Alex and I was blown away by both her and the actress Rachel B. sp? her timing and pace are indeed like that of a comic, quick and sharp. The pilot was excellent and love the time period of the Beatnik Fold Song era coffee houses.
I think it's interesting that the interviewer used the word lost because I felt that way about Susie, too. On the surface she seems very self-possessed but as the show went on I felt like there were cracks in her exterior which began to show her vulnerabilities and that she maybe has some learning to do herself.
My least favorite character. Clueless at times and expecting some others to tell her stuff. Too reactionary for a successful manager. I know it’s just a character but I find her gambling and swearing too much for a person who has achieved nothing so far.
I think that maybe someone else other then this president of JBS should be interviewing celebrities. Also, review what he is going to say and pronounce things correctly. Lousy interviewer, but great interview by the celeb.
What a thoroughly delightful woman. Such depth with a complete reverence for her history and dedication to have it persevere for those she loves. As wonderful as she is in the limelight, I think she would shine as brightly without it. Terrific interview!
"I got the feeling that Susie needs someone to tell me...what the heck to do." Hmmm....very insightful....now is that because Susie literally asks him "what do I do?" PLEASE SOMEONE GET AN INTERVIEWER WITH A CLUE
Marvelous Mrs Maisel is the best show since the wire which was the best show since Roseanne. What do they all have in common? Great writers then great acting.
I don't like this interviewer. How did he not do his research??? How is he mispronouncing Maisel!!! What a turn off!! It's hard to watch the whole interview because of his questions. 🤮
The interviewer is lost...he resembles a jr. high school editor of a low end school in a small country town... not good at this at all. His demeanor is dull and uninteresting...you want to walk away as soon as e opens his mouth... Cannot get through the whole thing...IT IS PAINFUL.
He is fumbling with the Brian Linehan playbook. Linehan, renowned for his composure, interview skills and meticulous research, often leading to in-depth questions that could last for minutes. This interviewer is the opposite of Linehan.
I know I'm late to this party, but if you ever want an example of "mansplaining" here it is! Mark Golub mansplains and Alex Borstein (very respectfully) corrects his stupid summations. Also, as someone brought up in the 1950s in a Jewish neighborhood in the Bronx, I find the stereotypes in this show embarrassing. Rachel Brosnahan is fantastic as is Ms. Borstein, but the other characters are written in the most obnoxious stereotypes, especially Marin Hinkle's character. It encourages the lie that all Jews are rich, materialistic, boobs. If the characters were realistic, Midge would be going for her master's in education at Barnard. Barnard because she was an upper East side Jew, not one from the Bronx, Brooklyn or Queens. If she were, she'd be getting her master's at Hunter. Education was the clarion cry for all Jewish girls during the 1950s. And finally, I remember Kevin Pollak's standup career. He was a superb comic; a helluva lot funnier than the Mrs. Maisel's routines. Palladinos should take advice from Pollak on funny.
I agree with you about the negative stereotypes. Both Miriam and Joel’s parents are not nice people. While watching the show, I kept thinking the the portrayal of Jews was rather insulting. Btw, I am Jewish and also grew up in the Bronx ( Parkchester) in the fifties/sixties.
Susie, LOST...this cat needs to re-watch this show- she's poor, pissed off, disappointed at her life feeling, always "stalled" or about to take off- but there's a but...I feel Susie is both sexual and asexual- not bisexual either- I don't know what her sexual affiliation is, but for me that's so much an important part of their friendship- I like this ambiguity, if it is meant as ambiguity. I think Alex is very pretty as Susie, I never had to "guess" girl or boy- there's an innocence to a old soul, partly embodied in her little boy 1950's sweaters. I'd be interested for lesbian if that is the correct, RESPECTFUL TERM, forgive my not being under 20! I dig and respect EVERYBODY. Namaste
"Maintain a real sense of Jewish identity". Alex is clearly an intelligent and multi talented woman but being Jewish isn't about what you eat, it's about having a relationship with your Creator and devoting your entire existence to fulfilling His Will and the purpose He created for you. It's nice that she wants to remember she's Jewish, but millions of Jews weren't killed in the holocaust for eating challah. Her character Suzie may not be "lost" but a jew without the mitzvos is surely a lost soul. I pray your neshama finds a way to reconnect to its Maker for you are too valuable a soul to lose.
is Golub over exposed on this network..he tells guests often they are wrong...he makes his own statements of his personal view but pretends they are "other people" say....he projects and often looks for agreement with his own view...His word count is often 2-3 times more than the persons being interviewed...getting hard to watch......
Oh please! That’s like me complaining that they use non-Cubans for the show “One Day At A Time”, when they’re ALL supposed to be Cubans from Miami. First of all, Rita Moreno is Puerto Rican, and I believe there’s only ONE Cuban in the cast. That’s why it’s called “Acting”. And Brosnahan does a great job! That’s why she has so many awards. Don’t be so closed minded. It’s not about you.
I have loved Ms. Borstein for decades. You are the heart of Mrs. Maisel.. Your sense of laughing through difficult little daily trials is precious. It may sound silly, buy I still laugh at your classic line..... " He looked like a man!!" I would love to meet you some day..
