Broadway superstar Alex Brightman discusses the crazy voice he uses in "Beetlejuice the Musical" and the unconventional way he was able to make it happen.
@@OrangeColt the thing is everyone can actually do this, it’s what you hear in rock screams without knowing it all the time. Everyone has a pair of false vocal chords, just not everyone knows how to use them. Alex has had training in this area with his rock style singing for a long time before he even took the role of Beetlejuice whether he knew it or not, which is why he finds this technique so comfortable. If someone wanted to learn how to do this it is 100% achievable with time and practice.
@@MasumiSeike dream desk said “..at *my* performance...” so i thought they meant the actual musical that they watched and i was wondering which part of the musical Alex said that 😅
As someone that has done metal vocals for years it comes with alot of training and practice for most people to do the "gruff" voice. This dude could easily expand what hes doing with a little more force and start doing metal lol.
hey i would love for him to do a whole metal album as beetlejuice. Yes, as the character. The disgusting lovable chaotic perverted trash man that he is.
Would definitely love to see Alex Brightman do some more metal singing, he was able to show that he can do some great metal growls during some part of The Whole Being Dead Thing opening number! ^^
Benjaminne Benjamin yup. Some people have the same “condition” that Alex does. Where they can use their false folds to talk. At least I think that’s what it is, but I might be wrong. But if the new Beetlejuice can’t, I’m sure they’ll have their own spin on the voice
Turtlemaster 326 Alex mentioned that he encourages his understudies to make their own spin on it rather than forcing the voice that isn’t sustainable. Also, if some people can, there could also be a standard in terms of acting and being comedic, i guess. Or maybe they aren’t within the theatre arts. 🤷🏻♀️
I found this video because listening to Fizzarolli, I was like, "that must kill his voice to do that for the entire recording session!" And the first result of my search is him going, "I'm a mutant, literally, so it doesn't hurt at all" 😂
Yea it's crazy, I found out I could do the same thing like 5 or so months ago. It's gotten to the point now where i could literally sing the entire show and sound exactly like Alex. It's so fun!! :D
If we can't get Michael keaton to do a Beetlejuice sequel, having Alex play the character in a remake would be the next best thing. Warner brothers, hit this man up ASAP!
Well, looks like I have something in common with this dude when it comes to the false folds. Now I just have to figure out how to use them while breathing out.
*1:09** BUG BOYYY* *1:24** Amazinggg* It’s honestly crazy to me, how a pervert demon shares the same face as this sweetheart- I wanna meet himmmm *”isn’t that fun?!* *ADORABLE*
Alex had a stutter when he was younger so that's partly why. As a stutterer you are constantly straining your voice to push the words out, and you are very aware of what "positions" your throat, tongue, and jaw are in and what you sound like.
I love this guy so much BEST BROADWAY ACTOR EVER!!!! I mean he recorded Driver's Seat from Dead End (he uses regular and BJ voice) in 1 take!!! 1 TAKE?!
I got a chuckle out of him saying that he didn't do very deep, gruff character voices before Beetlejuice, because the entire reason I looked up this interview was to hear his regular speaking voice because the only roles of his that I'm familiar with are that and his roles in Helluva Boss and Hazbin Hotel. How the tables have turned
