I can’t explain how beautiful this video is, with Sarah by Alex G and with the 60/70s videos in the background truly something beautiful

This is a great video that really captures the wonderful weirdness of the brokenness of relationships expressed as only Alex G can. When I saw him a few months back in Dallas at a small, packed club, I was standing in the middle of the crowd when he played this song. When the falsetto part of the vocal came, EVERY girl in the audience started to sing along creating this wonderfully weird quadraphonic effect that made the hair stand up on the back of my neck and a tear roll down my eye. One of the most beautiful things that I have ever heard. I first heard Alex while riding my bike in Deep Ellum, Dallas. Music was coming from the backyard stage of Club Dada that literally stopped me in my tracks. I stood there and listened to the weird changes blowing over me like a cool wind. I saw someone walk by and asked if he knew who was playing and he said "That's Alex G." I hope he never loses his wonderful ethereal texture like musical confetti gently falling from the sky.

Alex G's songs always bring me back to my childhood... messy, colorful friends' bedrooms that smell like clay, dog fur and fun, meeting at the park and playing with random kids, watching the trees and night lights from the backset of the car, playing make believe with random household objects, dancing weirdly to songs from the radio... didn't have an ideal childhood, but some feelings from it I will never be able to forget and experience again. Or so I thought. Alex G's music manages to bring me back to those good moments. Thank you, truly.

I’m about to turn 25 in a few days and all I want is to wake up in my bed again 5 years old. I’ve had a hard life and my childhood wasn’t good at all but I want to feel optimistic again. I swear the sky seemed bluer and brighter back then and the days lasted forever. It’s terrifying how quickly time passes.

I wish I could just run away and start my life once again as a new person. I wish I could stop waisting time and live a happy life. I wish I could remember my teenage years as very happy period in my life. I just want to go on an adventure. Update: January 3rd 2022 I just remembered this song and I found my comment. I completely forgot about it and I didn’t know that many people understand me. Let me tell you my story. I’ve written this comment in April 2020, when this whole virus thing started and I was on quarantine. I was almost 14 at that time and I didn’t know how it would affect my life. Before this started, I was literally one of the happiest people Earth. I was very extroverted, had lots of friends, was full of joy, confidence and pride. But when quarantine started, I became more emotionally mature and my way of thinking was getting more realistic. I realized how my friends were toxic and manipulative so I became distant and ended the friendships. I felt betrayed and I suddenly had trust issues. About that time, I have discovered this song and it made me cry. I wanted a true friend so badly, I wanted to meet a soulmate so much. I wanted to live a happy life, go out to the woods, have an adventure, but I simply just couldn’t do any of these things, because I was on quarantine. This lack of the ability to get out of the house and meet new people has lead to depression. I didn’t want to make friends online, because I was literally disgusted by the internet. I spent so much time using it while sitting at home it made me feel sick. In May 2020 I got anorexic. I finally could go out, but I didn’t use it to have an adventure, because I was so weak and tired, focused only on the way I looked. I couldn’t make new friends because the trust issues have become more intense. I eventually made a new friend. But she was manipulating me, pretending to be anorexic just like me and she was encouraging me to starve myself. She was pretending to be just like me, so that I could trust her easier (I got into her trap and trusted her…). We were friends for almost 2 years and I finally got to cut her out of my life. It was hard cause I was so in love with how having a friend made me feel like. I was also very in love with the memories and the vibes. But I realized how toxic our friendship was. So I’m still lonely and kinda depressed. But now that new year has come, I am trying to change for better and I feel like I’m having a spiritual awakening. I am proud of myself for getting to love myself for who I am, feel good on my own and being focused on my goals. I pray for everyone to find their true friends and make pure, healthy relationships with others. You have to know, that you can make each of your days an adventure, by using your imagination and taking action.

1:37 certain stills, like this one, really hit me hard. They look so young and just like the kids I went to school with (especially the guys hairstyle), yet this was filmed decades ago and they're probably old enough to be my parents. And it's surprising to me how much much compassion and empathy I have for them. Or like at the beginning of the vid, how I feel like when I look at their faces as they pass by I can see them as their entire lifespan at once. And it's funny how little we acknowledge the reality of death and time when birth and death have been happening countless times before us. When you're young you have such an illusion of permanence, that life and youth last so long and you have a strong grip on them, when in reality its the complete opposite. Our parents used to be just like us, and are like us.

I discovered this song around 2018 when I was spiraling into a really bad depression in college. I found it to be both melancholic but absolutely gorgeous and it comforted me through my dark college years. The thing is though lately these days this song has taken a whole other meaning that I can’t shake off. I’ve graduated college during a pandemic but this song no longer reminds me of those days. I now suddenly think of my Aunt Sarah who passed away from cancer 17 years ago. It was a really traumatic experience for my grandparents and for my mother, as she was the closest to her. I have lovely memories of her but I feel guilty at me not realizing or not knowing what to do as it was certain she was going to die. Her death anniversary is actually coming up pretty soon. Every time I try to sing this song or even listen to it I start to cry. The thing is, even though I cry, this song to me is very healing and absolutely beautifully arranged. There’s not a lot of “modern” songs that can be considered timeless and I think this song holds up pretty good in my opinion.

It's tragic. This seems to be a petulant boy's idolization and apathy for a girl named Sarah. In his misery he uses Sarah as an emotional punching bag not even knowing if he wants her around or not.

When I first found this I came purely for the old footage, and even exited the video when I heard the singing. I hated it. But I really liked the video, so i kept coming back to it, and all of a sudden hey, I liked the song too. The singer didn't have good vocals, but it was almost reassuring in a way, and along with the video it just gave me such a strong sense that everybody is imperfect, and that that is perfectly normal and alright. This is now my favorite song and unofficial music video, and I love it to death.

Theres only a few songs that you could say warp my mind. And this one is particularly a tear jerker for me. Its so sad, and so addicting to listen to. I cry almost every time i hear it, because Its like the short good time before everything got so difficult. I dont know thats why i keep it on repeat.

I found this song right before my family went on our last vacation together. I listened to it staring out the window towards the ocean, on early mornings that week when I watched the sunrise on the balcony, and on repeat on the way back home. This song has followed me ever since. It reminds me of bus rides home from school resting my head on the window and staring out at grassy fields and squinting at the sun. It reminds me of lonely nights in my room when I listened to this song for comfort. This was the second Alex G song I listened to and one of the most impactful- I’m crying writing this thinking of how much of a constant this song has been in my life. It never gets old. It’s followed me from eighth grade to my sophomore year of college. I am so grateful to see how much I’ve grown since I first listened to this song. Thank you Alex G. This song holds so much meaning for me.
