Taken from an old VHS which has a bit of degeneration, the video begins at 6-6 with Higgins at the table. Presented by David Vine. Commentators- Jack Karnehm and Jim Meadowcroft. Referee John Street.
Apart from alex being a genius. Its just a pure joy alone watching the way he pots them into those hard middle pockets. What a player that man really was! Just pure born natural ability! And no one ever spoke about how great his safety play was? Except one man, and it was steve davis. Steve said "alex was a brilliant tactical player and the greatest safety player i ever played against and watched when i was playing alex and we started playing safety shots i always felt the under dog, becouse i knew how great he was. For example i would snooker him and feel it was near impossible to get out of, then alex would think of a way even if he had to play of 4 cushions and he would not just get out of it but he would snooker me back? Then i would snooker him again and he would do it again and again and at times he was doing shots that i had never seen before as a player becouse he had that great vision and self-belief that alot of players didnt have. Or they did have it but never on the same level as alex had. Snooker needs alex higgins and hes the greatest player i have ever seen" that was what steve davis said in 1990 or 91 a believe. I can still clearly remember steve saying it. It was on a proggrame about snooker as a whole and the players at that time, some past and present!
I saw Alex play here in 84.there was always an electric atmosphere when Higgins was in the building.he wasent playing well as bit drunk but then he knocked in one of his classic long pots at speed to the roar from the audience.a timeless legend he was.
Higgins was a dream to watch when he was flowing. I'm so glad I grew up during his career, How many players, even today, would have played for the black after the red at 3.10?

@st snooker and sport i just want to say a huge thanks for showing these old 1980s and 70s matches of alex higgins. This is just a pure delight, joy to watch when alex plays like this. And again a huge thanks your a legend. keep them coming please!
@craig park no craig alex just made them look big! Becouse he was the greatest ever middle pocket potter, and the speed and how hard he did it plus with alot of side and deep screw back! Do you realise how hard that is to do? Not many players could do it with so much power plus deep check side to screw back and from a tight angle to keep position!
Alex was the greatest - to think some nuts claim that if he were born into today's game he'd not have been able to cut the mustard. He and Reardon would easily have competed in todays game.
@john mc jimmy white only had to pot a near strait yellow and the other 4 or 5 colours on there spots in the 1992 or 93 world final to win it, and he missesd it? He shat himself is all a can say. And i knew then that he would never win it, he didnt have the bottle to see it through to the end. And it wasnt the only time!
