Chief's fans are forever indebted to this man. Let's not forget how instrumental he was in helping Patrick Mahomes in his early development; knowing full well he wasn't in the Chiefs future plans. Respect.
Not to mention playing well in his last year with the Niners, then to get concussed, and watch your job get taken away, while remaining a supportive teammate.
Alex Smith is a role model. Years ago, out here in California there was a missing girl that was never found. Massive search parties for months. Alex joined the search and did not want to publicity, didnt want to take pics of vids.. He wanted to find that little girl that was missing in his community. He will always be one of my favorite athletes. And I hope to see him play again 🤙
That's crazy. First I'm hearing of this and I guess that should be considered a good thing since he didn't want the publicity. A shame for the little girl and her family though. I already respected him for just sucking it up and dealing the constant offense changes every year, knowing he was the Niners franchise QB and could've said something, but he has even more respect from me now after hearing this.
Alex is a class act. As a KC fan I always enjoyed watching him play. The level of consistency he brought to the QB position at KC will always be remembered as one of the best.
He also took Patrick mahomes under his wing and helping him shape his talent to take the Lombardi home in the first time in 50 years. We are all very thankful for Alex Smith’s service.
This dude suffered thru 7 OC's in 7 seasons with my NINERS, I never thought he got a fair shot cuz he never had any continuity or stability....he's actually a good, solid Qb....
I think he got a fair shot. Not a good shot nor a bad shot. Just a fair shot. You're correct that in his early 49ers days he dealt with way more than a young QB reasonably should if the goal is to properly develop him. On the other hand, he got to stick around for much longer than most QBs would have given his performance. Few QBs with his early struggles stick around beyond 3 years and he got 6 before a competent staff finally arrived. His situation is a bit nuanced.
@@bigglilwayne7050 Revisionist history. That decision had no effect on Harbaugh's career. Everywhere Harbaugh goes he makes his team better immediately before eventually wearing out his welcome 3-4 years in. It's amusing whenever people pretend that benching Alex Smith created some sort of ripple in the universe.
I’ve broken 3-4 bones playing sports.. fractured 3 bones in my ankle including growth plate playing football. Dislocated my shoulder and threw it back in myself in the middle of a baseball game after I slid. I would have given up anything to be out on a field and healthy. I’m sure he’d do the same.. although he has 100 mil now so who knows.
@@kcchiefsproductions8687 As a niner fan who lived among niner fans in ninerland, he was not hated. At all. That was especially the case when he was traded to KC. Did he have his struggles? Sure. Never hated though.
@Matthew I been a chiefs fan for life it was always frustrating to watch alex play because he goes for the check down and guys would be open down field
Charles Harris We can all think of QBs that were destroyed by the system that they were in. Amazing all the stuff that he went through in SF that he still pulled a decent career in KC. He was the beginning of the change of culture in KC.
I know were all prisoners of the moment and this was sad, but no he was an mediocre qb never top 10, but he had a decent career. He should spent his time with his family now.
This was extremely hard for him to speak about when you love the game so much and due to injury you cant do what you love respect to him hope he has an amazing second chapter to his life
What he needs to do is start a football camp for kids. His playing days are behind him. I don’t care to see dink and dunk quarterbacks . I don’t care 🤷🏿♂️ what anyone else says .
I hope he has a wonderful second chapter in his life like you said. Really happy he had a successful recovery. Although, I would want him to retire not to be rude but I wouldnt want his leg to be amputated if he breaks it again. Such a humble guy too!
Remember when everyone thought he was a bust in the niners than he went with the best play caller / weapons and Andy Reid made him look like a pro bowl baller
He was one of the best QBs in the league when he got his concussion in 2012. Went 18/19 on mnf the week before. Jim Harbaugh unlocked him not Andy Reid
Ray Brozzo but when he was with the niners he was a check down artist and people were calling him a game manager until he went to the chiefs him and Andy put the chiefs back on the map
From all of us Kansas City Chiefs fans, Alex, we still love you brother and glad to see you doing better! This is way more important than the game but we are hoping to see you back out there and are praying for you!
This should give U an idea of how good he really is......when he was injured, the redskins were 6-3. Since his injury, they’ve gone 3-20. Alex Smith actually had that dogshit team at 6-3.....one of the worst teams ever assembled.
We play football in South America and a guy had a nasty injury like that and almost died, almost lost his leg... but was able to recover and walk on his own. After 4 years, he got back on the prsctice field to train but not the playing field (yet?)
This story really hit home for me. I'm a huge Chiefs fan and always enjoyed watching Alex play. I had a severe compound ankle fracture from a motorcycle accident a few years ago and unfortunately, my leg was amputated below the knee. I can totally relate to what Alex has gone through and he is fortunate to have come this far. I pray he will play for the NFL again one day!
I am so sorry that happened to you Randy. Thankfully, you survived & you can continue to bless this world with the wisdom & fighting spirit you surely must have gained!
Until I read your comment, my thought- with all due respect to Alex Smith- is that his injury is NOT unprecedented in sports. Valentino Rossi suffered a complete break of his tibia during a motorcycle race and was back on the bike in 6 weeks. Obviously, Rossi- to his good fortune- did not suffer the post- Surgery complications that Alex did.
I would love to see Alex Smith get one last shot at quarterback. He’s always been such an underrated quarterback his entire career , and even played some of his best football in his last 3-4 seasons of his career in Kansas City. People also forget that when he broke his leg against the Texans, the redskins were 6-3 and were looking like a 10-6/wildcard team. I’d just love to see him get one more shot
I'd love to see him get another shot too, especially if he went to Chicago. You guys have had our number for too long, and Smith and Nagy could change all that.
I've loved Alex since he joined the league. I'm a 49ers fan and I live where he was born (Bremerton, WA) so this was especially heartbreaking for me...you can tell how hard this is for him to talk about, he realizes just how close he came to losing his life. Thank goodness he didn't!! We love you Alex!! The ovation he will receive IF he makes it back will be beyond insane.
@Michael Richmond Chiefs will win tomorrow. Media loves to talk up Cali teams. Niners D is pretty nuts, but it just doesn't compare to the full blown insanity of the Chiefs offense
As a chiefs fan, i say thank you Alex. You will always be welcome in the kingdom. We love you here in kc. You are a class act. Mahomes wouldn't be where he is nor would the organization without you. I feel if the chiefs win, you should get a ring too. Much love
@Wraith Black first time I ever put pads on that's what I accepted as a possible fate.. if you make it without paralysis or death you were a baller worthy of salute. Anything else is minor. Bring it on... Guess some people didn't get the memo..
You Alex, are a great quarterback, don't retire. I had to fall from my third floor apartment window to escaping a fire. When I landed I fractured 2 vertebrae causing me to be paralyzed from the waist down. Hard work and defying Dr's prognosis I walked in 3 months . You can come back to be a starting QB if that is your desire
Your heart is in the right place, I hope he can come back too. Medical science has advanced since Joe Theismann had that horrific injury on Monday Night Football, which ended his career. I hope Alex can come back and play in a Super Bowl before he hangs it up. He deserves it.
This man was quietly taking the Redskins to the playoffs. I couldn’t believe it, then I heard he had a devastating leg injury. That made me feel so bad for him. I’m glad he is safe and doing well!
Alex Smith will always be my favorite player. He is an inspiration for things far beyond athletic achievement....an example for the humanity of always maintaining a positive mindset no matter the circumstances.
I'm really glad that he's recovered. He is such a stand up guy. Patrick Mahomes has talked many times about how awesome and gracious Alex was in helping him acclimate to the NFL.
Got the 49ers a victory I will never, ever forget. He didn't have to stay, he did, and he gave us The Catch 3. Whatever you do Alex, I hope it makes you happy. Glad you made it through this.
I too had a complex compound fracture of my tib/fib as well as a shattered ankle into fifteen pieces. I have been mostly bed bound since the accident ten years ago. Alex is a true trooper to come through this with not only his leg but also his drive to still play the game. SALUTE!!!
MLM Son But, at the same time, if you truly love someone & that is what drives them, do you want to be the person they give up their dream for? Edit: Let me add that I totally understand where you’re coming from. I just wanted to pose the question. I probably wouldn’t want him to go back out of I were his wife, child, parent etc..
Susan Maggiora facts but if he wants to be able to still play with his children when he gets older I think it’s best for him to step away from the game. There are other things in the world he can find joy from
Ahmed Ali Money? He signed a 75 million dollar contract, my guy. He has a net worth of 55 million dollars. He doesn’t need money🤣 Some people are driven beyond that. You may not understand it, but it’s what separates great people from regular people.
I'm a Packers fan, but Smith's story is amazing, even aside from the injury. Thanks to everybody here for the stories and testimonials about all he has done, on and off the field. Props to Alex for all he has fought through and prayers for his continued recovery. God Bless.
To comeback just to this present degree of success in the rehab speaks volumes for Alex Smith It was life-threatening, limb-threatening, job-threatening, ad with threats to his family and social life... For Alex to be in a good place where he is now is awe inspiring to me My prayers are for what is absolutely destiny's best for him🙏
Follow his career ever since he got drafted and I never gave up on him. Still pisses me off that Jim didn’t give him that chance to lead us all the way. Alex is the true ultimate team player!
I got love for you Alex I hope everything goes well in your recovery moving forward. I have such fond memories of you running down the sideline against New Orleans in the Divisional round. I hope you achieve happiness and prosperity in the future.
looking at the photo of Alex and Pat I can't help but think what a wonderful legacy you've left behind, Alex.. Thanks for leavin it all on the field, wish you were in the SB in '12, you my dog - Niner fan
While Smith couldn't get us past the divisional round, Kansas City has a lot to thank this guy for. He was part of Andy Reid's getting this team on a consistent winning record after struggling for so long. I hope that Clark Hunt gives Smith a ring if we win tomorrow. He's very much a huge reason why Mahomes has been so successful in his first two years so far
Alex Smith is a class act, and a great QB! Sending love and positive healing energy his way! He was one of my fave KC QB’s and I wish him the best, and hope his career continues onward for years to come!!
Alex thank you for all the time you gave to us in Kansas City. You are a great qb and your road to recovery is inspiring. Hoping the best for you. From a chiefs fan.
Alex. I’m a Skins fan and I’ve always been a fan of yours. I was excited to have you on the team and I felt like you were going to get the skins on track. You made me comfortable as a fan of the team. Then you got hurt. For your own sake please don’t come back. You had a great career. Enjoy life with the family. I’d hate to see you again injure this leg.
I agree! I would expect that he'd return as a back-up in Washington, and then I would hope he can be a starter for another NFL team the year after that ! (once he has proven to be capable of playingat 100%)
God bless you, Alex. You are a total class act, and Redskin fans everywhere greatly appreciate the way you have carried yourself as QB of the Washington Redskins. We wish you the best and speediest of recoveries.
Alex Smith is what every person should be, in some sort of way. Genuine, humble, thankful, and an amazing person!!! Wish him all the best in whatever the future holds for him!!!
So glad you've recovered Alex! As a life long 49er fan I always thought you got a raw deal and I hope one day you will be involved bib some way with the organization again.
Thank you Alex for everything you did for my chiefs, I feel without your tutoring of mahomes they woukdnt be in the spot they're in right now, always loved you as a chiefs qb and hope you come back, stronger than ever
Serbia recognizes and loves you Alex! As a Serb, i'm very happy to see you back! You are my favourite QB and thanks to you a lot more people got into NFL and American Football is growing his popularity in Serbia thanks to you. Keep doing, samo napred!
Underrated QB, had lots of bad luck in his career. He'll make a great QB Coach or OC with his Football IQ. He should retire and live a full life he's made his money already
Was never a Alex Smith fan, but learned about this awful incident and his suffering from infection. Wish him the absolute best and hope he does return to the NFL. If it doesn't, then best of luck to him. He's such a class act. RESPECT! Get well Alex!
I am a KC fan. This video was eye-opening... This is the most vulnerable and raw I have ever seen him... Alex was always polished and poised in what he said pre-game, post-game... a real pro. He is an excellent QB. I wish him and his family well.
You can tell he's torn because he genuinely loves the game of football and that goes beyond money. As a chiefs fan I have a lot of respect for Smith and I just hope he continues to focus on his recovery.
It's not up to you. If he wants to play and another team wants him he should do it, if he feels he shouldn't then he shouldn't play. Your not a doctor so let the doctors tell him what he is ready to do
So glad to see Alex on the comeback trail. As a KC fan, AS will always have my undying respect. I was so happy that the Chiefs did right by him. People have short memories, but I’ll never forget what Alex did for the Chief’s organization. Whatever life holds for Alex, I wish him nothing but the best. I’d love to see him start as a QB coach somewhere and eventually make his way to a head coaching position.
How is he playing with his life by going back on the field? It was the infection that almost killed him, not the actual injury per se. The chances of such an energy and going septic again is ungodly low.
TheHeadincharge playing with your life and quality of life are the same thing to me. If it prevents him from walking normally interacting with his kids and future grandkids. I’m not saying he’s going to go septic again.
Glad you're doing better Alex.. I hope you decide to hang up your career, and move on to something great! 49er fan here, thanks for all the effort over the years!
