"Sounds beautiful.......AND GAY"😂😂💀💀 the most genuine reaction ever, I thoroughly appreciate reactions that aren't just trying to hop on the band wagon, he likes what he likes and doesn't what he doesn't, love this guy
Not saying be disrespectful obviously, I thought it was funny, but honest. Too many people are afraid to be honest so the just hop on the band wagon and say it's good even if they don't think so out of some bullshit fear of people they don't know or care about. If it's shit that's your opinion and that's okay, and if you like it, the same applies. Personally I like the song beginning to end, the cleans where really good and clear, would've liked more screams but still can't complain, I just thought that comment he made was funny
@@thebigfap3959 I'm the same. I'm enjoying ST lately, although I could probably never list them as something that I love to death. And yeah, I'm also kind of sick of people pretending they're amazed by something just because it's popular. Don't they know it's visible when the reaction is genuine? That's for example is the reason I have troubles watching The Charismatic Voice. Like I see she's trying to appreciate heavier music, but you can see she's not really into it, her reactions seem fake and forced. I appreciate that she's taking everything into consideration musically tho, and trying to put a finger on what makes some music appealing and also that she dissects all parts for technicality issues. But yea I really don't like jumping on band wagons cause something is popular or to try to cater to a certain type of people.
@Ana Milojevic Exactly, and there are other reactors that do the same thing, which is why I love ohrion because he kinda reacts like I would, stank face for some and hey this sound like so and so for other, just seems authentic
“Life is dark. Life is bright. Life is ugly. Life is beautiful. Don’t get lost in the genres, they’ll only disorient you. Music is for everyone” -Vessel 2017
This shit put me to sleep. That not bad thing. I needed sleep. But I don’t get Sleep Token. I haven’t read their lyrics, or followed their video progression, but I just don’t get it.
@Ericsaidful don't worry,I listen to mostly death metal, now I am sleep token worshiper.Give it time, read the lyrics, listen to All of their stuff and be open minded.🤷🤘
Sleep token is theatrical. I could take my grandmother to see sleep token. Nothing wrong with that either. Theatrical is good and very entertaining. Lots of talent. I place sleep token up there with Trent Reznor. But I would never tell anyone that sleep token is the best. I feel bad omens is better than sleep token. Just my personal opinion. I'd even listen to Ronnie Radke and place him above sleep token. So it's really about a person's personal preference and wether or not they like theatrical music or music that gets the mosh pit or dance floor hoppin. But sleep token produces the feels. Beautifully composed. But not everybody is gonna love sleep token. Musicians will appreciate sleep token more than an average Joe will. Cause they know what went in to composing it.
Sleep token is weird, they keep it metal enough to keep a metal head interested, yet it’s sparse enough that the song sounds like taking a space ship flight through a fairy tale. It’s like hiding a medicine pill in your child’s favourite food.
It's weird, I feel like they do the blues-funk and pop sounds better than the metal bits. With the singles they work, but overall in the album they seemed pushed in
Same. I’m a metal head and I’m very confused why I like their music. I hate how much it sounds like pop, but at the same time it’s dark enough that I like it. His “girl dancing for me” take was spot on for me, too.
@@VeritabIlIti fair thought, but in my experience with the amount of delving I've done with so many different subgenres of metal, all I can say is to trust that it truly feels more natural -- for some people like me, at least -- and in my experience it's probably due to my experiences with music I enjoy and discover to date. I hope you come to enjoy it more! Personally, I should probably listen to it again because I've only listened to the non singles maybe twice, so I can't lie and say I'm a superfan lmao.
@@logantibbets7937 no I getchu, they definitely were blended well thanks in part to the songwriting and superb mixing. But it speaks to the overall writing when one of my favorites is "Aqua Regia" which has minimal guitar presence, partially because it didn't throw in heavy guitars at the end like a few other tracks. When they're on, they are ON. But there were a couple of tracks where the vibe didn't progress as well.
I agree! I feel like I can’t put them into any one box and that’s why I love their music so much! Def a different vibe and not necessarily for everyone but can bring people in who love all kinds of music
I wouldn't say Sleep Token is my cup of tea either but the way they've managed to compose, write, and blend a variety of influences really shines through and I have so much respect for it as a musician
For real! I was like "ah. So they've invented pop metalcore...and then they blackened it. What the fuck. Now I too understand why this band is making the rounds!"
I loved that you paused it right before the screaming vocals 😂😂 it definitely caught you off guard for sure. Will Ramos is a huge Sleep Token fan which I find incredible
I laughed so many times because of his reaction, he is so different from his music. And the fact that Alex TERRIBLE is scared or creeped out because of the figure in the video says a lot lol but seriously, I love this guy he is hilarious, but you can tell his reaction is very genuine. Keep up the great work Alex!
I had almost the opinion when I first heard this band, "not very heavy, not my thing" but after a while they grew on me and now they are my favorite band. I would recommend Vore as it's their heaviest song and what got me to like the band
@@Cryzeeeh I mean it has famously been used as an insult for fucking decades bro. Both my best friends are gay so you won’t get no homophobia from me 😂
my favorite thing is that sleep token is SO FUCKING ADHD with their style, but its also ALL IN ONE FUCKING SONG, and this isn't the only one. They go so back and forth so much in all of their songs. But yeah they go hard, and can go hard, but like, also don't always want to? I just want them to do one single song with a consistent sound to hear how they would do it, because we know they just do whatever the fuck they want with every song.
If you like how they’re ADHD in their style and do genre blends, I highly recommend BTBAM, Fallingwithscissors, Ever Forthright, and Painted in Exile. They do a much better job of achieving the same effect for me
I have not laughed and genuinely enjoyed a reaction as much as I did this one. Keep them coming Alex, the candid honesty and genuine response is very much appreciated and the world needs more of it.
"Sounds beautiful... and gay... but that's ok" lmaooooo Love that you did a reaction, and to such a song! Granted, I'm a huge STP fan and this is outside of what I normally listen to, but it is suiting for sensuality. You're thinking of Adam Levine from Maroon 5. I haven't looked into it, but I think each member is in their own bands, some of them very well known. Each video from this album has it's own figure like in this one, not sure what they mean. Love that you gave your honest opinion. I also like heavier music usually, but Sleep Token has grown on me. Another I'd suggest is "Vore". Stay safe, brother! Wishing you a safe sky over your head.
Honestly that's one of the reasons why I like it. It's chaos, but an organized chaos that has it's own flow. Like any of my personnel spaces in my home. lol
I absolutely agree with you on your statement about Sleep Token not being a heavy band. They really aren't. Their heaviest song is probably Vore and Vessel can absolutely get dirty with his voice. But the thing to me that makes sleep token so special is the way they are so genre bendy. They flow seamlessly between a number of different genres, often times within one song. Vore is a perfect example of this. Overall, they are much more melodic than heavy. Not that something heavy can't be melodic. But being melodic seems to be more a of a goal of theirs than being heavy.
They r far from seamless bending. And they pick the absolute surface of every genre they mix with. In track ascensionism i waited till rap part end and wanted the beautiful riff. If someone who listen to rap trom 98' waiting when rap part end something is not right and its bad rap. There r also people who done genre mixing better before. Even tik toker Kim Dracula done genre mixing better and he does everything alone. Sleep token is chaos without good skeleton of the track. Love it or hate it. Dont do blind fanboying.
@@youlikefeet you're close to 'youneedtohave180IQtolistentoSleepToken' -levels of gatekeeping. Just enjoy what you enjoy and let other enjoy or dislike whatever they want. Its nice that you compare this band to nirvana and see them as the highest level of modern musicianship, but that's really just your opinion. Don't hate on others who don't share that opinion
I love the honesty, and I'd love to see more reactions in the future. Also, while "The Summoning" is popular, it's not particularly heavy. If you want to check out heavier Sleep Token songs, I would suggest "Gods" or "Vore," but generally, their song tend to be atmospheric and more pop adjacent with some heavy elements.
You had me laughing so much when you kept saying “wtf is this guy??”😂Always thought the guy in the music video was creepy! Think it’s supposed to be video game inspired like Dark Souls or Elden Ring character. This was the first Sleep Token song I listened to and I love it! Think they are so good and blending genres/musical styles into one song.
Well he is Russian we have different perception of creepy things. The most hilarious reaction I’ve seen and remember years after is when there was some popular video game that all youtubers played(don’t remember the name), and there was a moment when you enter a creepy apartment building, and every Western youtuber said things about it being creepy, while one Russian guy just went “huh looks like mine, okay what else”.
I remember I read a thing where there was a theory they were 3D renders of various forms their in lore deity "Sleep" takes but I've also heard they're: A) Action figures B)Kitbashed Warhammer 40k minis C) Elden Ring dlc leaked bosses (my personal fav)
I would say Sleep Token's big thing is being experimental. They try to blend genres together. This song I think hit well and kind of takes you on a journey rather than just being raw energy.
@CrisistentialXS Is it though? If it was "super safe" would so many metal fans be reacting like they are? To me it's way more safe and cookie cutter to turn out generic screamy, riff based metal and that would get more respect from "real" metal fans.
Such a genuine, straight forward reaction without over analyzing and breaking down every few seconds like most reactors. Check out "chokehold" next, and afterwards, Will Ramos's cover of chokehold. I think you'd dig it!
Will's cover of Chokehold is what got me into Sleep Token in the first place. And what got me into Lorna Shore was Charismatic Voice's youtube channel. I went from opera to deathcore to going to my first Lorna Shore concert a month later, to Sleep Token in the span of maybe 3 months. Always loved metal but it took an opera singer to nudge me into harder music and Will Ramos to nudge me into ...whatever Sleep Token is lmao. Talk about music with no boundaries lol.
@@StrangeQuark84 thats a crazy story! You should look into dance gavin dance theyre in the same world but on the entire different side of the spectrum of “heavy” music :)
I had to listen to Sleep Token quite a bit before I fell in love with them. I ended up in heavy traffic and was like ok, let me just listen... and now I cant stop listening to them. Haha Loved this video!
“Life is dark. Life is bright. Life is ugly. Life is beautiful. Don’t get lost in genres, they’ll only disorientate you. Music is for everyone.” - Vessel I love metal, but I also love many other music genres outside the heavy music realm, such as indie, R&B, jazz, hip hop, soul/neo-soul, house, drum n bass, samba, bossa nova and many others. Keeping an open mind towards music makes me understand Sleep Token a lot more and love their music.
I was fucking amazed what Will did with Demolisher. Subverted every expectation i had for the breakdown except that it would be fucking sick. Can't wait to see him duet with Alex on tour.
It's great seeing a Russian death metal vocalist give a genuine reaction to Sleep Token. Your English is fantastic too! The beings are other worldly creatures and each song has one. You should see Vore's deity creature. Huge fan of Slaughter to Prevail. Also, Welcome to the USA! Metal heads love Sleep Token. They seem to have broken genre barriers. Vessel's vocals, song writing, instrumentals, music theory knowledge and production skills are borderline genius. Alex, you should do a Sleep Token cover.🤘🏻🖤
They aren’t the first band to do this just the first band that’s got massively popular in modern music. In the same way make them suffer did Lorna shores sound from immortal and after over 10 years ago
wasn't sure to expect from an Alex Terrible reaction video but it's authentic asf, would love to see more! would also like to see a cover from Alex at some point with his own twist on it.
same, what a fucking awesome band. i think alex should listen to some more songs and get a better feeling for them. i took me a little bit of listening but now i absolutely love them
"Who is this guy? I don't understand." - Alex Terrible Everyone else: We got no clue just worship. Some tracks are heavy some tracks are light but guaranteed to set the mood just right. 😏
For me, Sleep Token was a very slow burn. I didn't care much for it even on the first 10+ listens. I think part of it was from everyone hyping HOW HARD they are when they really aren't. I had a slow day at work where i decided to really dig in and i listened to their full collection of songs. I found their style to be what i would call more "atmospheric" and "experimental". There's only about 3-4 songs they go a little heavy on. Knowing this did give me a different perspective on the band and their music. I like them now, but it only came once i stopped thinking of them as a harder band and comparing them as such.
It basically became a lot of poeples gateway into metal. So for then it's was the heaviest stuff they listened to. For me, it's just chilled as fuck and I listen to it on a long hard day. 👍
I saw Sleep Token live early this year. It really was a new concert experience for me, because it was more of an atmospheric rock experience where you just stand there while you're drowning in music
I’m DYING to see them live! I wanna go at least twice consecutively or as close to that as I can get. Once to just take everything in and once to just lose my shit and be in the moment 🙌🏼
We need more reactions to music for sure. Love the honesty and the comments that are 100% cancelable. MORE PLEASE Edit: Love to see a reaction for any of Avenged Sevenfold's new stuff or Falling in Reverse if you haven't already listened to it.
I honestly think the thing that draws people on with sleep token isn't so much whether they're heavy or not but more the composition of their songs and how they execute cadance changes, if I want to headbang until my neck snaps I would listen to Slaughter to prevail or Lorna shore, if I want to headbang slightly less I'd listen to parkway drive, but then if I wanna vibe and chill with the occasional sing along and then into head bang that's sleep token, they are making waves cause they don't really follow the normal genre and I think that's why people like them so much
Love this reaction. Totally okay that it's not your preferred style of music, but you can appreciate that it's still good. They're definitely not a heavy band, but their composition, lyrics, vocals, and tendency to flip between genres is awesome. Kudos for giving a very real reaction!
You had me cracking up this whole entire video man, love your accent. I've heard of your band before but never really looked into it, I'm gonna check you guys out tomorrow you seem like a really funny, good dude
I’m going to NEED Alex to do a cover of one of their songs! 😅 I would love to get Alex’s reaction and thoughts to a song called Anger by the band Left To suffer
I feel like if Alex was to cover one of their songs, it'd definitely have to be "Gods" off their first album. That and "Vore" are probably their heaviest songs as a whole. Left to Suffer got some bangers too
I've been fan of Sleep Token for 3 years now and seeing them go big is one of the best things ever. I love this review from you Alex, I love how honest you are and you made me realize why people may not like them. I can agree that the songs may be extremely jarring with the genre switching from R&B to extreme heavy breakdowns. But I've gotten used to the sound over time and new listeners are 50/50 if they can vibe to it. I would really like to see you react to Orbit Culture, they're heavy and thrashy and got a new album coming so the hype for them is building
LOL I like your reaction. I don't understand their videos either, but I AM a Sleep Token fan. I think they got popular because Vessel's voice is so unique with that quick vibrato he has. Also I like the fact that they combine many styles and genres in their songs, one minute it sounds like a rock song, the next minute some atmospheric thing to sleep by, then a pop song, next a heavy breakdown more metal, and then suddenly sounds like R&B. They are really difficult to lump into one category and that is the appeal. Plus the lyrics are not shallow at all.
Their videos aren’t really intended to add anything to the music. It’s just a visual to go along with the music and let the music stand on its own. I think people expect a meaningful video accompaniment nowadays so it catches some people off-guard. My best listening experience with Sleep Token has been in the car running errands or something where I don’t have a specific emotion when I get in the car.
I didn't realize how much I needed this. Thank you Alex for being so genuine! Looking forward to the band's next visit to FL! Edit* If you're still interested in heavy songs from them with harsh vocals give "Vore" and "Gods" a try. For future reactions it would be awesome to check out Humanity's Last Breath.
Hey, if Will Ramos can cover Sleep Token then so can you! They have some heavier tracks for sure but mostly in the older tracks. Great reaction and can't wait for more!
This was the best reaction video I have ever seen, you had me dying laughing so many times. And I agree with you 100% on the song and everyone's hype about the band.
What a chaotic video and song to listen to. I feel like my brain was just exploding in confusion, it truly was a journey and Alex's reaction was just priceless and facts.
It almost seems like its gonna grow on him. The whole album is all over the place, musically. Rap, pop, metal, rock. Its just a conglomerate of music really.
The way i feel about sleep token is its just that, its a sleep token. its like trance music where you just have to vibe. its not for everyone but you should give the will ramos version of the song chokehold a chance.
In all honesty, even I have heard about this band, this is my first time listening to their stuff as well. Couldn't chose a better way to do that than by watching you reacting (also for the first time) to Sleep Token. 5:31 'He looks creepy. He... scared me'' said arguably the most intimidating dude in deathcore right now🤣🤣🤣 Loved your reaction: genuine and no filter. Also, congrats on reaching the 1 mil subs milestone, Alex. You rock. Literally.
Love your reaction! I expected nothing less from the goat Alex himself. I don’t understand why I love sleep token as much as I do. I listen to heavy music to make my ears bleed but like he said, these guys make beautiful and gay music and I can vibe to it all day. ❤
First reaction and hopefully not the last alex, I absolutely love your music along with my 10 year old son lmao, thank you we love to see you around more
Great reaction, and i appreciate how honest and genuine your reaction is! Oceans of slumber- a return to the earth below. Amazing doom metal song, and cammie has one of the best singing voices in the genre.
@@arturborkowski3832 what you’re saying is contradictory. If you don’t like these bands that are for “everyone”, then they’re not for everyone. You aren’t alone, Sleep Token and Ghost have plenty of haters, particularly from fans of metal, because the reality is that neither band is really metaI. I like them both but also acknowledge they both are over the top and goofy at times. It doesn’t bother me personally because I don’t need to take music seriously to enjoy it. But I get why people find them annoying.
I basically had the exact same reaction when i first heard them. But that mixed confusion lit a curiosity in me, and i kept listening. Now i can't get enough
Most authentic review of this song out there. Everyone else is just echoing the same shit. Agree or not Alex is saying what Alex thinks and nothing else. Looking forward to more reviews brother!
Sleep Token is that band you can play around your friends and family. STP is that raw energy you listen to alone and face fucks you with aggression. Love both bands. Both are easily in my top 3 favorite bands. Nothing beats a 1am drive blasting 666, Agony, and Chronic Slaughter through your subwoofers.
Never listened to sleep token before this album, nor have I ever been a fan of genre mixing the way they do. My first reaction a couple weeks ago was identical to this, I was like hmm this isn't my usual cup of tea but I actually don't hate this. Wasn't blown away either but then I could not get the songs out of my head until I listened to the album again the next day. Fast forward to now and I've listened to the entire album start to finish at least once a day since the first listen. Every single song just gets stuck. This album is awesome, the guitar tones are great, the vocals are very good, the lyrics resonate with me quite well when they usually wouldn't. My only criticism would be that the drums' kick and snare have that annoying overproduced sampling that's so common in modern heavier music. 10/10
What did you think about the previous two albums? I don't know if you know already, but the last song on this album is a throwback to the very first song of this album trilogy. In the first song he sings: the night does not belong to us. In the last song the lyrics change: the night belongs to *you*.
@rickvanpol3833 i started this place will become your tomb the other day but i only had time for the first couple songs. Maybe I wasn't in the right mood but they didn't seem to hook me like the newest album. I think I'll start from the first album next time i listen to them and formulate an opinion from there
When you say born of Osiris, do you mean the main vocalist or the keyboardists' vocals? I love born of Osiris but the main vocalists' one dimensional scream kinda grates on me after awhile. I prefer the keyboardists' vocals. He's just so talented in general.
