Young was transferred in November 1960 to Everton. Young scored 22 league goals in the 42 league games and made many other goals in Everton's 1962-63 league championship winning season. His elegant touch earned him the nickname of 'The Golden Vision'
In addition to the championship, Young won an FA Cup winners medal in Everton's comeback win in the 1966 FA Cup Final.

My footballing hero. Alex was a brilliant footballer and a modest gentleman, qualities which are sadly missing today. I was at Wembley in '66 with my dad and witnessed a virtuoso performance from Alex.

I had a season ticket at Everton from 1962-1976. I was always Alex Young when I played football with my pals on the local park. Broke my heart when I heard of his death. Too may of the Everton players from that era have died far too soon. R.I.P to all of my boyhood heroes..

Alex Young, one of the all time greats of Everton! Brilliant all-round forward with superb technical skills and also a great header of the ball with his magnificent leap.

Perfect balance, lerfect control and perfect timing. Today he'd have rated with Rooney, Greismann and probably Messi. That's how good he would have been playing on proper pitches

On a day Everton lost at LFC and to go into the bottom three of the Premier League, its heart breaking for those who saw Alex and the great sides of the 60s in our current plight. I was lucky to see most of Alex's home games from 1961 until he left in 1968 after the final game of the season, starring in a 5-0 win against Fulham. This came days after the 1968 FA Cup Final, i remember the 5 man midfield West Brom put out to stifle Alan Balls passing game. Manager Catterick chose Roger Kenyon instead of Alex as sub, when the game, even after half an hour, needed a tactical change,. Alex would have relished the big Wembley pitch. It was seldom mentioned he gave a great performance in the 1966 Final. Everton fans back then were unhappy with Catterick over his apathy toward Alex, who should have stayed until the end of the 1969-70 season. I attended both finals. Though the 1968 homecoming tour of the city was spoiled by a long running bus strike. No Mersey Rail, or high levels of car ownership in 1968

Sadly their is not enough footage to show people who never saw him play what a great player he was.
