I'm watching from Iran (been watching for a long time) and our trend, this year and every year, is smashing the patriarchy by tearing our headscarves ✊
Hi tooba, maybe you should wear big wigs instead of scarves. You have to cover your natural hair, right? Well, a wig is a cover. Maybe a group of strong women should try this trick. Stay strong in your beautiful country with absurd rules for women.
@@doroparker1702 Hi Inge, thank you for your kind words. The religious police doesn't care if it's not real hair, they'll arrest anyone who's being provocative. Anyways, we want our real hair out, wearing a wig seems like a cop out. 🙏💜
Trends in the Midwest?! I thought it was law to wear hoodies, jeans and sneakers every day of your life except during formal occasions, during which you may don a polo-neck tee.
My favourite trend this year comes from Alexa Chung in England. It's the trend of not taking fashion too seriously, otherwise it loses all it's appeal.
Omg yes. And, while I love them on others, I look like a whale in them because of my HUGE shoulders, so of course I’m destined to un-trendiness and sadness.
YOu should have permed the top of your hair in front fringishlike then done the rest in braids..maybe extensions so they could be longer...leisure pants in one bright color topped by bike shorts in another trend color the bottom pants legs tucked into black boots topped off by a lovely corset top...maybe with enormous puffed sleeves and a suitcase bag to carry...tres chic!
I’ve liked Alexa ever since I saw her pictures all over tumblr.. and now watching these videos and seeing her personality shine through is amazing. She’s so relatable and refreshing x.
2020's top trend turned out to be wearing a blanket just as Alexa predicted! Athleisure simply became "clothes." Hoodies, sweatshirts, leggings, no pants w/a Zoom shirt. I compliment people on their cute masks now that nobody is shopping for clothes anymore. Sample compliment: "OMG that mask is so adorable! Where did you get it? It really brings out your eyes and forehead!
I, for one, am happy to see a focus on feminine, classic clothes for women- love the tailored jeans, Swiss dot blouses, midi skirts, and all of the RU-vid fashion ladies who are showing us classic, French-girl style!
M K I love what you just described! Swiss dot is a favourite fabric of mine. I’ve got a white Swiss dot dress which I thought might be too girly but put on some combat boots and It’s perfect.
Congo is on that poverty trend too. You'd think after a few decades we'd hop out of it but alas ... 🤷🏾♀️At least the fabrics are nice and we still make our own clothes.
With all due respect, we here in Newfoundland are technically in the Western world... but we have never been fashionably trendy... unless the rain gear worn on a fishing trawler is trendy... lol
I think fast fashion has really had its day. I think even people who’ve been clueless how terrible it is for the environment are sick of buying clothes that fall apart, fade, go out of shape etc. So more thoughtful purchasing. And perms. Definitely perms. 💕🥝
Leila Kennedy agreed. I started learning dressmaking 18 months ago , I believe mending ( Japanese sashiko ) and making your own as well as sourcing from more ethical companies will be the future. When you make your own clothes , you realise what a lot of work goes in so you look after them better. Companies like Patagonia have a send it back to mend policy - and Toast have mending workshops here and there and a couple of stores you can bring your worn items to swap etc. The world is overrun with clothing !
I would just like to say that here in Australia, right now boys with mullets are getting perms, so Alexa was SPOT ON with that 'perm' forecast for Australia.
@@sneeuwballa not at all. Many Asian and African countries are creating their own trends that are being heavily appropriated in western countries. For example, anything with the 'boho' floral or 'tribal' prints that you see in the likes of European fast fashion outlets often started off as the traditional Indian 'warli' style or are heavily inspired by the embroidery and threadwork on the abayas and shawls of the Middle East. The loose, flowy pants that I see trending all over Instagram have been the patialas or kameez that Indian women have been wearing for centuries. Meanwhile, new silhouettes, cuts and materials merging western styles with indigenous fabric and design are becoming all the rage (the delicate indigo-dyed crop tops or kalamkari design wrap dresses are available every where from high end boutiques to street sellers in India). What Alexa says about covering up becoming more trendy due to Instagram removing its 'like' feature - I know it was a joke, but just look towards South Asia and the middle East for examples of modest, comfortable yet flattering fashion that keeps you cool on sweltering days. Due to our weather and social norms, it is constantly evolving. Furthermore, you point out that we are 5 years behind in these countries, but that is actually factually fairly inaccurate as well. Most of the trends western countries wear are literally produced in Bangladesh, Vietnam, Cambodia, Nigeria and so on. While a huge quantity is exported to Europe, the same items are sold, often for way cheaper, in these same countries and across the continents. So we people in Asia have access to the same trends as Europeans and if people do dress behind the times, it is often out of poverty and necessity, or out of a cultural custom of not wasting and wearing outdated clothes simply because there's nothing wrong with them.
@@diya7737 You are right in most things, but embroidery is also part of most European traditional costumes! :) Europe isn't only fast fashion and has a really old history when it comes to traditional clothes and cloths as well. Don't confuse Europeans with white Americans, thank you 😊
@@perseagratissima of course :) I never said that Europe is only fast fashion, I am sure there is a rich history behind its clothes, such as the German Dirndl and so on. I was responding to the original commenter's implication that Asian, African and Latin American fashion trends are a mere imitation of European ones, only five years later. In reality, the US and European fast fashion companies that are responsible for 'creating' the trends we see often appropriate traditional fashions from the same regions the original commenter described as being 5 years behind, bringing them to the West without crediting the cultures that came up with them. In fact, the interconnectedness of European and Asian/African/Latin American textile is long and complicated. While both regions have their own unique fashions, I think it's also fair to say that non-European traditional textile industries have suffered immensely due to North American and European exploitation - just look at how the British colonizers literally cut off the thumbs of Indian weavers to stop their trade, or how today, traditional African textiles are suffering due to how the trendy clothes from fast fashion brands that are discarded by European consumers are resold in Africa for dirt cheap, making it hard for them to create and sell their own indigenous clothing. I completely agree with you that Europe is not only defined by fast fashion or trendy clothing, though.
I live in India and velvet is the trend I love this season especially with the weather being cold and festivities and winter weddings dominating the scene. And honestly it looks so chic. It looks so timeless that I don't even consider it a trend. Which is an argument by itself. Can a trend be timeless?
In Australia the trends I’ve noticed are: - Teens wearing tracksuits in Summer - Shower slides - Small floral prints - Wrap dresses - Linen everything - Playsuits & jumpsuits in nicer fabrics and prints are being worn in place of dresses or suits for events.
idk why but i got "travel man 48 hrs" vibes from this. since richard ayoade retired that, i make a motion to have alexa re-invigorate it. the weirder the place the better.
I live in Colorado USA which means I also live in athleisure. Athleta’s fantastic fashion comprises 90% of my daytime wardrobe. I’m willing to be globally unfashionable 😄
heyy i’m from finland and probably a trend on here is just wearing really baggy clothes and like long straight pants. For boys the skater look is really popular!
i'm really amazed by how you and your team can foresee the future, or even _create_ the future trends. it's very special for people to have that. thank you for this video, alexa!
I love how Alexa makes everything about fashion but in a cool way. She seems like a very cultured and conscious person n I hope to meet her someday when I work in the industry. Greetings from Mexico :)
Great vid. I love the idea that with no ♥️ icon on Instagram we will no longer be a slave to fashion trends. Individualism should be celebrated. We all have our unique beauty.
In Canada the fashion that never goes out of style is flannel sheets and flannel pjs. Ohhh the sensual feeling of flannel on flannel! Be still my beating heart!
I recently discovered your channel and I am now a huge fan! I’m from Alaska and we don’t really have much of a fashion industry, but there are some local shops that are trying to bring some of that here! May 2020 we will be having a three day Alaskan fashion week!
Love from Vienna! Big trend here is sustainability through buying second hand or from local designers. And looking like you rolled out of the back of a charity shop 😘
陈诗濡 陈诗濡 yes, pun is correct! when she’s about to name corsets and the next trend she says “Of ‘corset’ it’s coming back” as a play on words with “Of course it’s...” Course it = corset. Idk. I thought it was clever lol
Why not take into account Latin American and African trends? Fashion is not just a North American or European thing. I mean if you are going to say that people from around the world watch your videos then take them into consideration.
Alexa I love your channel, but how can the title say 'Global Fashion Forecast' when the entire continents of Africa and South America are entirely dismissed?
Mini backpacks (wayyyy better than a purse) are still very on trend Montreal , personal style, vintage and thrift styles and of course being ECO- FAB🌸🥰🥳
Thank you (from America) for not messing with your face! So much more beautiful than fillers/Botox/lips etc. I feel like everyone on tv here has become this same weird look no matter what age they are. You’re the best.
I like .... and I'm from Australia, and am plaiting my perm right now. I knew I was so fashion! Oh, the boots into jeans! Got it going on ! THanks mate! BONZA!
I'm from Australia and, not gonna lie, I've been vibing with the perm lately. As a child of the 80s I always wanted one, and felt somewhat cheated when I grew up and they were no longer a thing. I'm all for a comeback.
Estaría bueno que incluyas tendencias de Amércia Central, Sudamércia, África y Asia ... sino se queda todo en Europa y EEUU, y Austalia ... sólo una sugerencia ... amo tus videos !
DOn't tuck in your belly. It is very unhealthy as it forces you to breath through the top of your longs instead of the bottom/your belly. How you feel is very dependant on how you breath. If you want to be sure of yourself and happy breath correctly. I love seeing a girls belly not being tucked in, looks more natural.
Sadly covid just ended up overwriting all of these fabulous trends. :( and 2021 endedup being inspired by covid; home curtains, bedsheets and pjs. :D Im glad that 2022 looks a bit more promising.
