The Melodiya LP from which this lovely performance is taken could well become a personal Holy Grail for me to search out. The music is just so beautiful and I find it hard to conceive of a better version than Alexeev's. I feel the same way about Nasedkin's rendition of the 1st.
I'm making this comment on August 10, which was Glazunov's birthday (new style). It seems a happy coincidence that the pianist here, Dmitri Alexeev, was born on that day (in 1947). I agree with Max Merry that there can hardly be a better version of this gorgeous music. As for the Proms performance (on UTube), nothing against Trifonov but Gergiev's orchestral accompaniment is less preferred. Most notably, there is a segment towards the end where the orchestra just doesn't carry you away as it should.
Glazunov is very under appreciated. This is a delightful concerto. I was introduced to him thru the lovely violin concerto - but there's nothing I don't like by him. It's all very high quality stuff - and always 'ravishing' and 'sparkly'....if you know what I mean. Cracking recording too - the mic is in the right place for once....
