Bravo !
sicilline -- Yes YES! Then you'll also love Gliere's 2nd Symphony....and the start & finish of "Cherevichki".......[Greetings from San Agustinillo, Oaxaca!]
Tremendous sophomore symphony from a 20/21 year old. So much confidence in the orchestral forces at his command. The second and final movements are particularly impressive. I have two other performances but this reading by Khaikin and the Moscow Radio SO is, by far, the best I've heard.
The 2nd movement is excellent. I bought this as an LP in 1976. I think HMV had just withdrawn it. It seems to date ftom a time when it had become the fashion to call Rachmaninov's Op 7 "The Crag". For some reason "The Rock" was considered to be a poor translation. As a result of this purchase I took to pestering HMV with letters suggesting they might issue more Melodiya discs of symphonies by my beloved Glazunov.
