Alexander's initial covert deployments and actions sure helped him attain victory here, it's what has made him one of history's greatest generals. Also his chivalrous treatment of Porus and flexible realist treatment of defeated opponents only adds to his reputation.

I think that only applied to kings and generals, his treatment of the rank and file wasn't so hot.

He also burned an Indian walled city to the ground for almost defeating his army. He's not the cute little teddy bear warrior you think he is. He has easy success up until he got to Indian and treated people based on his mood. He killed anyone who said anything against him. Even is own general is suspected of being killed by him after he rallies the men to return home in front of Alexander when he promised he wouldn't kill anyone for speaking up this time.

Alexander won this battle but with great price..After this, his Army obligued him to return home, and while returning way back home he contracted a fever that kill him (possibly dengue or malaria) while he was in Babylon. His age is 33 years old.

I just rewatched it again in more detail and I have to say this is one of your best works! Maybe the music placement and colours would do well with some improvements, but overall I see you are upgrading with each video, my contratulations.

Cavalry combat is weird cuz I never really realized that after initial charges most of the engagement had lots cavalry warriors just sorta milling about sorta just watching waiting and looking for people to kill. It was probably Very disturbing being in that melee

I recently came across your channel and I must say that you have done a spectacular job! Still, there is one thing that puzzles me: How did you do it? I'm also into Total War modding but I have yet to hear of a mod that lets you play both sides in a custom battle. If you cannot control both sides, how can you maintain the "accuracy" of a battle? Did you put together separate segments to create the battle?

In the hook, you have listed this battle took place in 236 BC, almost 90 years after his death....it is obviously a typo as you later give the date as 326 BC. Not ceitical, just a small item we have all done. Thanks for your videos

Alexander really was the man, his only mistake in life was not having children in order to confirm his line of succession-but at age 33, one may well feel as though there is "plenty of time" for that

*Battle of the Hydaspes:* - *40k+ Alexander's exhausted soldiers vs. 30k+ Porus's soldiers + war elephants* : How could Alexander's exhausted army possibly kill over 150 of Porus's war elephants when they couldn't even save Alexander's own horse? 😂 - *India's Economic Significance* : - India contributed 30% of the world's GDP at that time. If Alexander intended to conquer the world, why did he stop here? Makes no sense. - *Nanda Empire's Power* : - The Nanda Empire boasted: - 200k soldiers - 80k war horses - 6k war elephants - Greek historian Plutarch advised that, even if Alexander won the battle, he couldn't win India. Alexander's wise mind realized the world was too big, and he didn't want to be defeated by anyone, so he turned back to his own land. That's the real story-no need to exaggerate the so-called mercy of the "great" Alexander or his dealings with Porus. He failed, and that's the fact.
