Potentially the first field record for Sweden, at least the first for Falsterbo, of Alexandrine parakeet! The bird was detected on its call, and located high in the sky after two calls, as it was flying SW. It was checked in the BTX 85 and as I noticed it was a parakeet, I thought only of Ring-necked, Monk and Cockatiel as potential candidates. Monk and Cockatiel was easy to rule out, and as I was unaware that Alexandrine parakeet was a real possibility, I assumed it has to be a Ring-necked and called it out as such in the video, and on the local bird alarm it was reported as a Ring-necked parakeet too. However upon sending a screenshot from below to David E, he questioned how Alexandrine parakeet was ruled out, and from then on the re-identification process ended in Alexandrine parakeet. The red patch on the upper wing-covers was visible on some frames of the video, and the other characters are visible in the video (large bill, long neck, low contrasting under wing covers).
Alexandrine parakeet has self-sustaining populations in continental Europe, and as such is a potential vagrant to (south) Sweden. This record comes days after the first Rufus-chested swallow for Western Palearctic, just 70km from Falsterbo.
