I've not thought of Alexis Smith in a long time. It's a pleasure to see her again. Tie in Royal Dano, et al and decent mystery and I will watch it.All the buttons were punched here for a B-Movie mystery. I've never seen this movie. Thks for posting it.
Hey, Don ... I would think this, and other gigs in other films, led to that small, but oh-so-impactful performance by ROYAL DANO in John Huston's 1956 MOBY DICK as 'ELIJAH' ... (aka, The Unhinged Profit at the docks telling of Ahab, the mighty White Whale and the demise all aboard, save one from the whaling ship, 'PEQUOD') remains evergreen to me. If I may, here is that immortal scene in link and dialogue: ELIJAH: (Royal Dano) - Avast, there! Are you going aboard, shipmate? ISHMAEL (Richard Basehart) - Yep. ELIJAH: - Hey, shipmate, have you signed to sail on that ship? Have you signed to sail the Pequod, I say? Was there anything down about signing away your souls? ISHMAEL: - What? ELIJAH: - Perhaps you haven't got any. Have you met old Ahab yet then, have ye? ISHMAEL: - What are you jabbering about, shipmate? ELIJAH: - Did they tell you how his mother birthed him, turned from him, gave him his evil name, and died? Did they tell you how God's lightning struck down and branded him? Did they tell you how he spat in the holy goblet in the church at Valparaiso? And did they tell you what happened his last voyage? ISHMAEL: - I know all about him being crippled by a whale. Come on. ELIJAH: - All about it, aye? You're sure you do? Sure? Did they tell you how the whale marked him inside as well as out? Did they tell you that mischief was worked on his soul? ISHMAEL: - No, I don't think they did. ELIJAH: - How could they? Who'd know it? Not many, I guess. ISHMAEL: - Ah. You can't fool us. It's the easiest thing in the world for a man to look like he's got a great secret in him. ELIJAH: - I have, lad. I have. At sea one day, you'll smell land where there be no land. And on that day, Ahab will go to his grave, but he'll rise again within the hour. He will rise and beckon. Then all, all save one, shall follow. Morning, shipmates. ISHMAEL: - Morning. ELIJAH: - May the heavens bless you. ISHMAEL: - Hey, you. What's your name? ELIJAH: - Elijah. My name is Elijah. In short, thanks for introducing Royal Dano in UNDERCOVER GIRL ... and of course, all the other films here. It makes a difference to many, dear fellow AN EYE FOR AN EYE alum. It does to yours truly. Happy Saturday-! ♥🎥♥ Dana ps: Should we ever talk via Ma Bell or the like, remind me to tell you of a great conversation I had with Steve Carver a few years before he passed.
I liked it too. But, didja notice there's some scenes in here that Mamet used a bit in THE UNTOUCHABLES ... ... as exampled when NYPD Trainee Alexis Smith was recruited by the LAPD detective played by Scott Brady at the indoor gun range. ALSO ... in that scene -- lots of shooting indoors and zero eye & ear protections. Times have changed. D.A.
I like Alexis Smith, but you don't see her in many noir vehicles for some reason. Although it be period correct, I thought this movie was kind of a dog.🐕🐕🐕
