The Saab 21R was a Swedish twin-boom fighter/attack aircraft made by Saab. It was a jet-powered development of the piston-engined Saab 21 which along with the Russian Yakovlev Yak-15 was one of the only two jet fighters successfully converted from a piston-powered aircraft to enter production.[1]
As a fighter, its service designation in the Swedish Air Force was J 21R, and saw service in the late 1940s.

Interesting aircraft and not one you see that often. Look forward to the build and thanks for the review Alex

There's no doubt that SH offer excellent kits. Their plastic may need a wee bit extra help going together, but then that's what modelling is all about. The mixed media means they are also capable of building into spectacular models. Great review mate - enjoyed seeing another Special Hobby kit laid bare! :)

Looks like an absolutely gorgeous kit, very nice traditional box layout with very nice crispy sprue's, bit tempted to get one of these specialhobby kits as they have some very interesting features in them. Good review Alex!

Hi Alex, I think this maybe the first video of yours I have watched. Informative and entertaining! By the way, life is NOT a box of chocolates, it's a box of plastic! Keep up the great work and I'll keep watching. Smiles!

First of all, Alex, apologies for missing some, if not most, of your recent videos.. had a spell when I was more off than on RU-vid, as happens from time to time.. Now, secondly, you keep referring to this aircraft as the J21, which is technically correct, I guess.. The 'R' however is distinctive for the JET version, so when talking about THIS version, you should always refer to it as the 'J21 R'.. :) This is just me being fussy, of'course.. but still.. The J21 A-1, A-2 and A-3 were the piston engined fighter and ground attack versions, the J21 R was the fighter version of the jet.. :) It wasn't a very good fighter however, and was later used as a ground attack aircraft, designated A21 R, a task for which it was much more suited.. :) 'Thirdly': Special Hobby has also made the piston engined version, and so has, of'course Heller as well.. I have TWO of THIS kit, needless to say, but as yet haven't even started to build them.. I will do the version from the F10 Wing, (of'course!!!) and most likely also the 'Blå Östen' version, or 'Blue Ö', the letter Ö itself being quite rare on a Swedish aircraft which makes it interesting.. :) It is (hopefully) a very good kit like you say, and I'm looking forward to seeing it done in due course.. not sure when I will end up building mine as yet, but it won't be right now.. :) Thanks for a great review of a kit of a very interesting jet.... :)

Again my friend thank you for correcting me. If theres anyone whi really knows about this plane is you! I just love this shape... its different (as most of the swedish planes are). Im quite tempted to do this one but only when i look at it and it.. made me smile:) all the best Rob and again thank you!;)
