Using time-honored techniques passed down by generations of stick-makers, a few skilled artisans still make wooden sticks by hand. Native craftsmen such as Alf Jacques (Onondaga Nation) create these traditional sticks, often considered "the soul of the game."

I have one of Alf's sticks. The first week I had it I slept with it in bed. There is literally energy coming from the stick I kid you not. I use it all the time while coaching.

I get the I kid you not part. I have one of Alfie's sticks too, he lives not very far from me, am very glad to be able to call him a friend. Have spent a pretty good number of hours in that little shop, it's an incredible treat. There's a spirit and energy that comes from Alfie too, he's just one of those special guys.

I will never forget going to the Onondaga Nation as a kid with my parents and picking up a stick from Alf. Must have been late 80s possibly 1990. I still have it and will never part with it.
