@@grzegorzmlacki6590 I have 2007 3.2 Q4 with manual and yes, it is a lot quicker. I wrote handful of comments under each of the 3 videos of this same car on this channel in naive hope that it can decrease the amount of usual trash talk about this engine/platform.
@@Jaredscott89 Also I guarantee you it goes faster than 220kph they achieved on this *broken* car and accelerate quicker. If you don't believe me, it's your problem. I am not saying that 159 3.2JTS is blazing fast.. but it is surely quicker than the car shown in video.
*Max @AutoTopNL* , you actually said it in your review like 3 or more times- this particular engine does not have full 260Hp. Therefore it is ridiculously slow. Carbon buildup in engine? This review is unfortunately not doing a justice to a real performance of a healthy 3.2JTS. Other than this I agree with you :) It is very thirsty as it has to cope with Q4 and heavy weight of a platform initially planned for much larger vehicle (luxury sedan with v8). My pre-facelift 3.2JTS Q4 SW weights 1805kg per documents. After facelift (2008) they lighten up mainly suspension components and saved around 50kg. But 159 had the biggest torsional rigidity of all its competitors that time (3 series, A4, C class..). And I would 100% rather crash in 159 than in 156/147 (watch crash tests) :D Ti version of 159 has (apart from visual changes you mentioned in video) also lowered sport suspension by 20mm. That's only difference drive-wise. JTS was first introduced in facelifted 156 2.0JTS. Jet Thrust = direct injection. Stoichiometric in the abbrevitation means it keeps ideal air to fuel ratio, so all fuel is burned. In this engine it means that it burned lean mixture until 1500rpm to save some fuel and then used stoichiometric AF ratio. BTW: *only engine block* was sourced from Holden. Alfa used their own heads: JTS, variable timing, higher compression ratio. Last remark as many times this engine/ car is compared to 156 (even to 147). Yes, Busso was lovely to look at and sounded amazing and reved quicker, but also it was not possible for this engine to pass new Euro4 emission standards. Remove some of the CATs from this car (there are 4 of them) and put it in 156 and it would be quicker than with Busso. Also more economical since this is direct injection. You can't really compare 147GTA FWD light car with horrible crash test results with 3.2JTS Brera (which was more likely Q4 too) built on much heavier platform. That's not fair comparison. As an owner of 159 SW 3.2JTS Q4 I can tell you that they drive faster and accelerate harder. You can reach 240+kph and quicker too. So if you want a relevant result in your table, please find another car and do the measurements again. If you read up to this point, well done sir. Thank you for your video reviews :)
@@julien42230 Hahaha you're joking. Better than the Busso in every aspect, apart from character. This specific model has carbon build-up issues - which affects all direct injection engines. Gotta know what you're talking about before commenting.
That particular Alfa is broken. Not the normal acceleration at all. You should know better as a car journalist. Yes the engine is not a busso v6 but GM but still. The acceleration is not normal.
156 2.0 Twin Spark takes 8.6 s to 100 and the top speed is just as seen in this vid. Has 155hp and the weight is 1375. Something is wrong with this one.
@@Wh04m1 Nooooice. Would love to get me some older alfa again. Only had twin sparks\boxers in the past. Is jts at least somewhat similar in character to TS?
yeah i think it should be faster too. there's a video of a chipped 3.2 159 with 290hp. And while that is a +10% increase in power it did 0-100 in about 6s and 100-200 in about 15s. This one took almost 30s 100-200 which really is slow. Plus the chipped one hit 230 before the video stopped but would definetly break 240 when topped out. Probably something wrong with the car. Maybe carbon build up and in need of a retune?
@@nvl2691 Hey mate, another video of this car, another avalanche of crap comments. If you want to amuse yourself, read the comment thread under " _MegaBaron91: Slow acceleration, high consumption, but it has an V6 and it's red! xD_ " comment where I had a "discussion" with some Jared Scott :-D
Doesnt matter how slow or fast it is - its arguably the best looking estate ever made, looks gorgeous from all angles, driving experience is fantastic and you get the sense of connection to the car. Its not an overpowered Audi A6 with wide skirts and 700 horses (which is also pretty dope) or the usual boring BMWs. (your new M4 is amazing tho) Love to see more Alfas on this page :) Running a MY18 170hp Giulietta here in Misano Blue with carbon details :)
@@swansmeisterany car could be expensive if you buy broken car or unreliable enginge. And yes i have AF159 and i wouldnt replace for another car with the same budget
@@swansmeister did you ever own an alfa or are you just another idiot repeating like a parrot ? We have a 1.9 jtd 147 for 14 years now, 300k km, no big issues and I still go 1100km on one tank. And after 14 years, you still enjoy the drive. But hey, they're terrible amirite
@@dwade3202 there are always exeptions on the rule bit Alfa are problem cars, it's not an opinion but a fact. I like my c63 s204 also but it jas it share of problems and I am not such a fanboy that I couldnt say anything negative about the car I own. Alfa Romeo has the nickname Alfa Romelo over here for a reason.
@@swansmeister thats my point, exactly. literally audi bmw merc from the late 2000s break as hell too, but you see nobody having that reputation but alfa. My dream car is audi rs5 with the v8 and when I go and see how many issues the car can have it's crazy, but the reputation is intact. Idk why but its like people want alfa to fail and to re-enforce the belief they're crap. Sure, some parts are questionable, but I hate when they act its an alfa only problem. Buy a bmw v8 from the late 2000s, you're gonna go broke.
@@215alessio Lets be real, that questionable deal with nasty GM V6 (and some inline 4) engines was already set in stone, when Marchionne came to FIAT in 2004. However "Marchionnes V6" for Alfa Romeo is the F154 - in Giulia & Stelvio QV.
@@alfisti93 It really isn't nasty. It's just strangled by strict emission standards, and in the case of the car in the video, strangled by carbon build-up. Now, the JTS is definitely not as enjoyable as the Busso, but it's much better than people make it out to be.
Sounds better than expected, but what you want is a 159 with the 1750TBi engine. I have a late, low mileage 159 TBi SW tuned by Squadra tuning, and it is properly quick from about 1800rpm.
No way, I've driven a Brera 3.2 jts (so same engine) in stock mode for 4 months and I was flying. This car has problems. The only V6 engine I love Is Busso ❤
Italian invisible horses, beautiful sound, beyond beautiful looks. That's an Alfa! Having this in a Brera, the fuel economy compared to the speed and power is laughable.... but the looks, the sound, the feeling it gives... priceless!
The biggest “problem” with the 159 is that the best engine in its series is either the 1.750 petrol or the 2.4 diesel. The V6 was never considered to be a good petrol as it was made by Holden (sacrilege for any alfisti!), and the 2.2 petrol is too slow, as is the 1.9 diesel. I have driven the 2.2 and thought it was horrible, and I own a 2.4 since many years that I’ve pushed on the autobahn without problems up to 230. The top speed (on gps) that I’ve reached in the 2.4 was 245 km/h, meaning that something must be wrong with this V6 as it really seems slower than the 2.4 diesel that has 60 bhp less. Still a very pretty car, and I get plenty of comments on mine despite its 200K km on the clock and it’s tender age of 14 years.
Actually the (low) mileage IS the problem. It was probably used for lots of short trips and caused a lot of carbon build up which is choking the engine
And if it comes to interior, there is no good angle, not one good spot. Cheap plastics. 90s design. If it comes to fuel economy or reability there is no better one, if you have the tow company.
Early direct injection petrol engines are known for clogging up with carbon, and losing power as a consequense... maybe this one suffers from that? The 159 was hugely compromised but it’s a beauty and the interior still looks very good today
For the 159 the best option would be the 1.7tbi engine and then tune it with a stage 1 tune. But like you said, v6 engines are becoming more and more special even if they aint that fast
@@Mr995pippo oh yes i have one, its an automatic gearbox but igdaf, its so fun to drive. I'm thinking to manual swap it but ive heard that its very difficult even for poeple who understand alfas and everything, expesnive too, but my 166 is my love 😍
You should try a 159 ti TBI around some corners. It solves the weight problem and I consider it the perfect engine for this car. But unfortunately, it's not a v6. :(
You should all know it's slow due to the carbon build-up issues in the engine. Nice review nonetheless, although clearly not representative of the car's true performance.
@@Art_Vandelay_Industries It's not common at all - it affects all direct injection engines. Especially low mileage cars - carbon deposits in the intake ports and effectively strangles the engine. Kinda like running a marathon with a noose around your neck.
@@Art_Vandelay_Industries I took apart origin 3.2JTS in my 159 and there was such a huge buildup everywhere that it clogged the oil canals (reason why the engine died).. It was because of very long oil service interval done by previous owner. So I can imagine something similar is happening there. With a new engine that thing is way faster than 159 in this video.
@@Johan-fw8re I believe that is also a problem, but I am afraid that the bigger problem is that the engine, at it best, does not achieve nearly the same power as it says on paper. This was even a problem with the old JTS engines in the Alfa Romeo 156 and GT. I may be wrong, but I think that’s the main problem, regardless of the weight of the car.
@@goranvego3 The issue isn't Alfa Romeo overestimating their power outputs - the JTS did make 260 hp when new. But carbon build-up has completely strangled this specific engine... thank you direct injection.
yeah i have it too, and it's rather boring engine indeed. That's why i upgraded to 3.2v6 166, now that is not boring at all :D But i still can't get myself to sell the 159, it's beautiful and comfy
Why is this broken thing 3rd time on this channel how can you do 3 separate videos of this car in that condition either take it to mechanic or don’t review it since the engine obviously has a problem.
This car might have some serious issues between the direct fuel injection system and the lambda probe (emissions measurement). Wrong infos between both systems, which result in poor performance.
You chose the worst engine ever integrated in Alfa Romeo. You should review 2.4 jtdm or 1.8TBi italian engines. And yes, this must have some problem because it should go 260km/h without problem (i have done it with the same car)
I have an Alfa Romeo 159 SW Q4 with a diesel engine 2.4 jdtm. 5 cylinders, 210hp. When i was on the high-speed road from St. Petersburg to Moscow, reached a speed of 210 km/h, but i felt that Alfa could do it faster, and I couldn't :) Hello from Russia, sorry for my English. Good luck, AutoTopNL!
Just like everyone said in the other video without the talking something is wrong with that engine. It might not be the fastest thing on the road but it's not that slow.
Der Motor klingt zwar gut, zieht aber nicht eine Scheibe Wurst vom Teller...👎 Topspeed ist unterirdisch 🤔. Ein Vectra B v6 fährt dem locker davon und das mit 170 Ps.
I'm probably wrong but.. it doesn't really seem that much faster than my saab 1.9 diesel lol. Although i did drive this Alfa 1.9 diesel version and it was super responsive for a diesel.
That precise alfa you're having on your channel may have some engine issues, because if you look on other 3.2 159 accelerations on you-tube they're much faster that that.
i had 159....sedan and diesel, but still very good car, i love it. turned heads in city bc not common in my country. always looked back after parking it and walking away :D
@@joe125ful yes, they already did a speedrun of this same car on this channel and it barely reached 220. As an owner of such car I know it can go faster. Many users states more than 240kph on speedometer (which is actually very accurate). Fastest I went (not a Vmax attempt) was 235 and car still accelerated at that point. I will have to travel to Germany to try it without the fear for loosing driving license :D
Bro doing 210 km/h and still telling you ouh man it is really slow. My God it’s slow! What are you expecting? Did they promise you a Bugatti and you got disappointed? But it’s a V6 👍🏻
Last Sunday I accompanied my fourteen year old son (159 employee 😁) to the "Quantum of Solace" rally on Lake Garda: 1 Aston Martin on the run and a pack of 70 Alfa 159s in tow, along the tunnels between Salò and Riva, bringing the scene of the life of the film oo7. 😂 funny. (Aston from Great Britain, 159 from Italy, Austria, Slovakia, Denmark, Poland, NL, Switzerland, Slovenia, Romania, mostly black)
Hi guys I want to buy my first car and idk what model. So I love the sound of the Busso V6 (GTA Models). It could be a Brera or 159 too. I want to stay below 20k€. Are the models good in this price range?
I would really advise you to go for an alfa 159 1.9 jts with 160hp, or 2.2 with 180-190 hp. You can also get the 1.8 ti model but don't go over 10-11k€. I would go for the 1.9jts (160hp) with low mileage, very good consumption too! No need to go higher engine capacity as their performance doesn't change accordingly. These cars, except for their breathtaking design, are amazing for corners, if you wanna do mostly highway driving they are nice, but their sound insulation is not the best. For twisty roads these are like the Ferrari of the "poor"! I love my 156 and my father's 159! Forza Alfa!
@@TheLordofcod yeah really good cars and engines. My grandpa has a Alfa romeo spider (916) 2.0. What a great car. But im the sound type of guy i thought maybe a GTV 3.2 would be the right thing maybe but thanks for the advice I could look for some 4 cylinders too :)
@@Luca-vl6ep I'd recommend the GT 3.2 - pretty much a GTA without the name and price associated with it. Won't be cheap for long though. Could get a 166 3.2 TI too. I'm hesitating between that and a 159 3.2 Q4.
@@Luca-vl6ep are you a soundfreak? Haha! I would sacrifice the sound for the consumption and price, you can find amazing prices for 1.9 or 2.2 . You won't believe it. Oh! And check for the front tires for over wearing, it means that the previous owner didn't change front suspensions on time and he drove it aggressively (I don't judge him, I drive it crazy fast in the corners)
Dovrai tenerla come un gioiello però, c'è gente che dice che se le usi tutti i giorni le spacchi ma non è vero, devi trattarla da dio, nel mio paese c'è uno che usa una GTA per andare a lavoro da anni
I have the 159 2.4 jtdm of course is more slow of this alfa on video but the top speed of my alfa is 245km/h and I don't touch the engine or work on this is only in good condition........for me the Alfa on video have problem........whenever W Alfa Romeo😉🍀😍❤
That car has hidden faults for sure (check engine light and many others) How do i know? There's no way, you drive for so long and the OIL TEMPERATURE stays on 70°C It's clearly somebody erased the errors or covered them
nice video, 159 has a gm (LLT) engine from the holden commodore SV6.the engine is long stroke, the busso has a short stroke engine. it is not the best engine. alfa did some tuning on it to make it a bit more sporty. it is such a dissapointment it lets it down a lot .
For a guy who doesn't reach from the start to correct point to open the car hood its may be problem a knowledge to drive it also. I don't even wanna remind about your "explanation" of JTS meanings... You call a 2006(first year production) production model slow. A series production(not a "m" or "s" or whatever..).That one may have a problem, or you just don't know how to drive it. I reach maximum speed on the clocks few times. I make some pictures also. Unfortunately, those test aren't made on "autobahn" so it my be illegal, I'll keep those for myself. Btw,240km/h in 5th gear....Mine clock are at 132k km now's from 2006(heavier version / around 1825 kg) .Or that test car have a problem, or the driver is slow. I bet on second variant. Alfa car isn't for everyone . Good day !
Alfa Romeo has a spirit , a car that makes you to feel an amazing experience , isn't about top speed or fast acceleration , and those engines aren't a true Alfa ADN , And doesn't expect something impressive form those engines . The Gulia Qv V6 2.9 is a true Alfa ADN
the car is sooo much more beautiful than it looks like in this video filmed with a ultra wide potato cap on his head. damn dont ever do this sh.. again. the shots on the interior are ok, but outside it just not good. you should have used 2 camera's i think my 2.2 selespeed is a bit faster to 100 than you just did, but so was my old fiat uno 1.4 20 years ago, its all hp/kg.
Very slow for the amount of power. Test Alfa Romeo 156 GTA with 3.2 Busso engine. Just find a healthy copy for testing. You used to test a few years ago. However, there was no trial on the highway. Regards and waiting for the GTA test. 🇮🇹🇮🇹🇮🇹Forza Alfa🇮🇹🇮🇹🇮🇹
A few things of note. Ok...so the engine isnt as pretty as the Busso but.... BIG deal!?!? If it was an exotic mid engined with a glass cover that would properly matter. It doesnt matter that much in a family estate. The holden V6 engine was worked on by Alfa quite abit and is actually very underrated and its the cars weight and not the engine that is the problem. Its true that after a Busso'd 147 or 156 GTA any 159/ Brera Q4 will feel slow (the Brera S version less so however) jist because theres upto 400kg difference 🤯. I also think the V6 here sounds great its close to the 12v Busso in sound rather than the higher pitch and less meaty sound of the Busso 24v. Furthermore these cars are so cheap vs GTA models and with whst you save you can easily supercharge to 325bhp and more with other tweaks too with no problem and transform the cars in a straight line and the Q4 system allows for handling it all brilliantly vs the seriously flawed FWD limitations of the previous gen cars. They are MASSIVELY better built than the GTA models. Tank like by comparison and much higher quality too. They are also more reliable under the bonnet. I also think the styling of the 159/Brera in the right spec are quite stunning and the match of the previous gen cars. Theres alot to like about these cars and i think if you budget with some serious tweakery in mind they can be made very nice indeed.
