Couldn't agree more. I owned half a dozen of them in the 80s and early 90s, even when they were shagged out they were great fun to drive. I had an MG ZS which was the closest thing I've owned to the handling and fun, but not quite there..... I swear nothing on this earth will put a smile on your face like a Sud.
Really nice driven and it do wake up memories. I can't remember how many 'suds I've had. Some of them just rust sheds, but all of them was great fun. I do specially remember my first green 1,2 from 1975. It ended up with a tuned 1,3 and in the end I did change engine in less than 3 hours without any other special tooling than the brake caliper tool. I do also remember the dark blue 1,2 totally balanced with double Weber that was carburettors that was revving 11000rpm... and the red 1,5 with racing cams, the webers from the blue and head jobs done. They were all great fun for little money ... and I did learn how to weld....
Any sub-10min lap of the Norschleife on a busy day in an ordinary car is an achievement. But in an Alfasud? With yellow flags on several bends? Even allowing that the driver knew the track very well and that the car was in tip-top condition, that's moving. Best of all is that it demonstrates two things: in a small car with low power you don't touch the brakes unless you absolutely *have* to: and that Alfasuds are brilliant.
A well balanced lightweight car with a good FWD layout, can embarrass many higher powered modern cars. They had a winner in the SUD platform if only Fiat /Alf, had the Build quality to match both could have gone onto greater things. Because they were fantastic cars to drive compared to the contemporary Golf GTI's and Ford XR 3i's or XR2's of the time. The Alf SUD will always be the what if car just like many other Fiat and Lancia's cars along that time line, all let down by Rust and poor Electrics and generally quality issues.
I have never been particularly interested in the Alfasud, but this lap really convinces me that they are brilliant little cars! Well done, much respect from a BMW E28 owner ! 👍
Thank you. I have been driving a lot on the Nürburgring - about 1.000 laps. That helps, and the Alfasud was known for being the best driving "normal" car in the 70'th.
Complimenti.
Do love the sound when it's on FULL SONG! I remember as a boy how these little SUDS could run with much bigger 6 cylinder cars - they were the first HOT HATCHES!
Once in my youth, when i owned 4 Alfasud in a line I quarreld seriously, complained with my fate with every patch of Brass i had to weld on the Body. But after the next time i went for a drive i was reconceiled deeply. There are good Memories of Driving my 1.5TI QO and listening to Ritchie Blackmore's music. I confess : I got drunk....
I still own the Alfasud 1186 I bought on 09/ 09/ 75! It's now rusted beyond redemption- but my heart still misses a beat when I recall being behind the wheel! Deep sadness mingled with memories of unalloyed driving joy on winding roads!
Oh my it's not only the car but the driver is exceptional. You took my breath away even by just watching a screen I just couldn't imagine it in real time! Very well done!
I owned four of these well-bred cars between 1978 & 1995, from the Ti 1.2 through to the final Ti 1.5 QV Twin-Carb. So dynamically stable, inspiring, superior and delivering buckets of fun, whatever the drive.
This brings back so many great memories. I have owned 4 suds and 1 sprint in my time. Loved them all especially the mk1 1.3 ti and the sprint trofeo. Such brilliant cars to drive, the steering is supreme.
@@kilppaHi friend Kriste!!... Really it´s "THRASHING" instead of "TRASHING"!!...Greetings of a 49 yo Chilean cars fan friend living here in SANTIAGO, CHILE, SOUTH AMERICA!! :-)
I had one of these back in the day, great memories ! What a spirited little car with a great chassis, and could hold its own against much more expensive stuff, especially on a twisty road ❤️😃.
O how I miss my Alfasud Export Veloce. To this day the best car to drive I have ever owned. Throw it into a corner and it would happily go on 3 wheels. So wish I could have one in original condition today. Thanks for the video!
The Sud 105 is fine as a porcupine!!!!!!! I used to drive mine (same as this but red) all over Cambs and Beds looking for Mini Coopers to terrorize! Bought new from Benstead & Pidcock in Peterborough back in the day and had it for over 3 years before returning to USA but had to leave it behind. Same with a 2600 SZ and later with a 1300 JZ and later with a 1750 injection engine!!! Also had a 75 3.0 V6. Now my daily driver is a Fiat Qubo that has 100,000 miles and 10 years of motoring to her credit.
Same here, I had one new in 1983 here in the UK. One of the best handling cars I've ever driven, wish I still had it. The only thing it needed was more power. I dream of having one now with about 250 BHP, it would be incredible!
Same here, i had a red Alfa Sud TI QV from 1984, one of the last produced! God i loved that car! If there is one car i regret not having anymore, that will be the one! And i had a white 1.3s i believe from 1982, inside mint condition, outside the rust won :( But my cloverleaf had barely rust, and drove like hell! Also the Michelin TRX tyres were absolutly great, only the were gone in a few thousand km... The red and black seats covered with ti...OMG...what a beauty it was!
@@turboslag That would be terefieng, if i remember correct, it weighted about 900kg dry! Also the brakes were good, but could be better. The disks in fron mounted near the gearbox was a weird thing to see. Then you would need a huge brake upgrade to think about more power. I think the sweetspot would be around 200 max with great brakes! I have driven a Porche panamera turbo with 501hp, but that everyone can do, nothing hard about, 4 weel drive. These cars are a whole other ballgame. But they were so nimble and light...and those dials...my God!
The ultimate driver's car. I got five of it. And d...d, I really should have kept one of them. Its road-holding, its greed for curves and its fine boxer engine easily going to 8000 rpm and more give an amount of joy of driving , which no other car can give. All the Porsches and BMWs, which came later couldn't reproduce this unique experience of driving. Only a transaxle Guilietta 2.0 of the last serie from 1986 and performance-enhanced by the Alfa works came next to it. Who never had the luck to drive an Alfasud, hasn't lived really.
Reminds me of driving my 1.5 Ti through the Alps, though on that occasion I got a ticket from a French motorcycle cop, who then turned out to have the exact same car. I learned a new French word - "puissant".
being a sud owner myself i love how effortless the steering wheel is in your hands. its like i need to turn now and the steering wheel is like ok master and i will not fight back and i will tell you everything that is happen under each wheel. just and absolute pleasure to drive and to watch being driven
Nice drive, I would have liked to have see some stats as you drove. I had a an Alfasud Ti in the early 1980’s and I drove it hard because it was so much fun. It burnt oil, got hot and was rusting around the rear window pillars. But I loved that car for its sublime handling and all around fun factor.
Gei geil geil!!!! Das Auto mit dem meisten Spassfaktor! Tolles Video, gut gefahren!
I just saw, it was Peter Dyrelund and his car. I was running against him in Sweden a couple of times. His car was way to quick. Back then I had one Alfasud 1.3 and one carburator 33 1.7 QV. I had no chans against Peter.
Fantastic driver and car! I wonder what modifications, if any? I owned a Alfa Sud 1.5 Ti in 1984. Unfortunately I totalled it as I wasn't a good driver. Later I owned a Alfa 33 1.5 Ti which was close but the Sud was more fun.
Is it the first time, he drives a Sud? I cannot hear the engine crying. Must be under 5000. I had a couple of Suds, 30 years ago, great fun but not the right car for the Nürburgring. The brakes are too small.
I have had the Alfasud for 33 years, and more than 1.000 laps on the Ring. The car has a supercharger, so it does not need 7.000 revs. The brakes are from Alfa 155 Q4.
The engine is fitted with an Opcon Autorotor supercharger. The gearbox has a Quaife Torsen diff, and the suspension is full adjustable and from the company Intrax in Holland
