In this video we do a carbon cleaning on the intake valves of my 2.2 JTS engine. With direct injection the intake valves can get clogged overtime due to carbon deposits and crankcase gasses sticking to the valves. If this get worse the engine can start running rich, rough idle, misfire and loose performance and fuel economy. So to keep the engine of my Brera healthy, a carbon cleaning is performed in ways of walnut blasting as a preliminary maintenance step.

Congrats mate really nice job! Great contribution to the Alfa community also with this video. Looking forward to the 1750 engine cleaning. I think you will satisfy a lot of Alfa owners with this one. Just one question how much of the walnut shell have you actually used?
@939driver
@939driver Год назад
Thank you man!! I appreciate your comment a lot 🍀🙏 Will definitely do a video for the 1750 TBi as well once I start with that operation some time soon. Luckily most of the walnut shells can be reused a bit once you filter it out the vacuum cleaner. But I used roughly 5L, and got 2L back, so roughly 3L fully used. 🙏🍀

Hi mate, i sold on Saturday my alfa 166. I miss her. The next car which i want is a brera too😊. There is one thing which is producing me headache. What is the average consumption for the 2.2 jts. I have to say that i really love the 2.4 jtdm. But the sound of the 2.2 jts with a sport exhaust is really nice. How many liters treat it yourself by 140km/h? You're doing a realy nice job with your channel on YT. I really love it!!! Best regards Pawel from Poland.

Easy job tbh instead of walnut blasting it can be done with crc intake valve cleaner spray and tube brushes of different sizes, but not brass, I would advise to use nylon

Una domanda te la devo fare. Ma il motore anche se spento le valvole non sono tutte chiuse. Non ti ci vanno i detriti nel cilindro aperto?
@davidecamuffo3757
@davidecamuffo3757 3 месяца назад

I really need to do this in my 156 2.0JTS but it's a lot harder... :( You should really feel a very nice ''comeback'' of the power and fuel economy. This is something so paliative and you don't feel how it's getting clogged until you feel a big change like this. Some 2.0JTS showed that after 150.000Km of carbon deposits engine lost around 30hp and that's wild... You can notice it in high RPM because it doesn't pull like it should but in a daily driving you feel it almost the same because you don't lose the same performance in low RPM. The new owner of my Brera took the car to a dyno and with 180.000Km he got 166Hp... I'm pretty sure that the engine lost all that HP from clogged valves. P.S Now just install a catch can and you will got cleaner valves for a lot more km!! P.S2 the PCV Valve is the same like some BMW E60 V8... And it's pretty cheaper. The membrane is the same, the capsule has a little hole but you can use your old one, and the spring I don't remember if it's the same lenght but I thought that I used it too with mine and it worked mint. Cheers mate, I really want to see this in the TBI :)
@939driver
@939driver Год назад
Thanks man! Yeah indeed, also see a lot of Alfa's on sale after 180+ K km and they have all kinds of issues what can be related back to dirty valves. With a carbon cleaning you get so much more out of your car, and likenyou said also regain the horsepowers again. My car pulls a lot better again now. Can not wait to do this on my TBi also, because that one has some serious clogged valves. Cheers man 🍀🙏
@DashCamSerbia
@DashCamSerbia Год назад
How can you use the old one if the membrane is raptured? The sping is too short. Also, during winter the water in the catch can will freeze and will block the PCV system, and that will build up pressure inside the engine.
