Loved the ending with you and your daughter just having fun in the car. I miss those moments with my son and with my mom. Great itineraries. Really helpful. I enjoy seeing the drone footage of each town. Gives a different perspective and it’s nice to see the town along the river, not just the ocean.
Thanks for your suggestions. I'll be heading down to the Algarve end of March to look around. Currently living in Braga and might be up for a change 😉 Keep up the great work 👍
Great video again Nick! love the car dance at the end. Haha.. We leaving in just a little over 2 weeks from now to Alvor, from South Africa. Super excited!!
Perfect timing. Wifey and I are landing in Porto in July. We'll be there for three days, then head to Lisbon for three days then the last four days in the Algarve.
Heading to Lisbon, Porto and The Algarve for spring break. Looking to possibly move there later this year or next. I may reach out after the visit to chat if that’s cool.
You are welcome to visit us in Switzerland. I can help you with your travelplan. I moved to CH 30 years ago from SA and the next step will be the Algarve. So I have been watching lots of your videos.
Hey Nick, your videos helped me enormously to prepare for my Portugal trip last month, scouting potential half-year retirement locales. For the Algarve portion, I headquartered in Lagos but quickly determined that was not a town for us. Everyone got around by car, even over short distances, and large insular condo + pool developments everywhere. Grocery was convenient though. I did like the old town. This encouraged me to rent a good bike, which I did, and my trip got better thereafter. I rode it along the coast past Portimão to Carvoeiro and back one day, then out along the coast through P da Luz, Burgao, etc. out to Sagres and back another day, then across the mountains up to Aljezur the last day. (I was accidentally routed onto a frankly dangerous downhill hiking trail that day which ended in a river, so that was quite an adventure.) On the bike I got a really great look at the countryside and a much more intimate picture of the towns. Portimão was rougher and dingier than I expected -- seeing drug deals done in broad daylight on the waterfront was unexpected. I quite liked the countryside around Sagres, but it's getting quite busy there too it seems. I counted more than 100 surfers on one beach and the parking lots for caravans were about 2/3 full, which surprised me for January. I had a very nice time, but decided coastal Algarve isn't really for us -- too similar IMO to Boca Raton, down to the ladies with American accents explaining to everyone within earshot that all their health problems were the result of "toxins" in their food. 😂 I found a few more out-of-the-way places that were more our thing.
@@AlgarveAddicts I found the little villages within an easy distance to the shores to feel a lot more authentic and they were far less crowded. I liked destinations further inland even more but of course they're further from the beach if that's what one is interested in. I spent quite a bit of time pedaling (or walking) the bike up and down those super-steep roads down to those little gem beaches like Salema or Pd Luz, et al., and while those centers were charming, it was fairly clear they'd be absolutely stuffed in better weather. (It was sunny and beautiful when I was there, but there was frost on the ground in the mornings!) I rode around a lot in the newer little hillside developments that ring the old villages and towns between Sagres and Carvoeiro and while these were pleasant enough, they really did feel and look like Florida retirement communities, but the prices were even higher. Very nice hiking and bicycling routes west and north of Lagos. The main route eastward from there even for bicycles was of course the N125 to get over the water, and that was, while mostly safe riding, not quite as enjoyable. We've got more scouting to do further North! Your other videos make that clear.
Make sure you go to Lucerne if you go. It's beautiful there. With the lake and the surrounding mountains. The mountain passes for driving are amazing although they're likely closed at this time of year. Bern is also a very nice city at the center. Lots of cool streets, shops and restaurants. Lausanne was a little boring. The lake is nice, but not much to see there.
Awesome! Thank you for this! We are coming in September-October to Algarve, to tour and scout around. How much are you charging for day tours? Will contact you on your website. Thanks again!
Hey Nick Cool video again! Let me just give my input, I hope you like it too (you may not agree though, totally fine)! Algarve is about enjoying, chill and adventure, it's not the same as going to London where you "need" to run everywhere like crazy. I would say the minimum is a week: - 1 or 2 day in Sagres and Costa Vicentina. Surf, trekking, yoga, dive, fishing,... explore costa vicentina is a must, it's a treasure, it's WILD. - 1 or 2 day in Lagos. Check the city inside the castle walls, enjoy the night there and beaches as well. Don't forget Praia do Camilo and Ponta da Piedade (Algarve's postcards). Take an afternoon to go to Monchique and it's highest point. - Portimão has a VERY ugly architecture, It's a work town even though the beach is cool! I would skip it - 1 day: a morning in Alvor and afternoon in Carvoeiro to see the caves if you have time go to Armação de Pera to see the chapel on the cliff - 1 or 2 day in Albufeira: do the "7 vales suspensos" trail, enjoy a beach like Falésia and the night time - 1 Day in Faro (Buut if you need to cut something, cut Faro city center, not better than Lagos or Tavira) - 1 or 2 Day in Tavira, definetly go to Cacela Velha and Tavira island - If you have more time, you have castles in Alcoutim, Castro Marim and Paderne, the villages of Alte, Odeceixe, Alvor, Ferragudo and Vila Real de St António. It's flexible according to one's personality. If you like WILDERNESS, adventure and sports like myself, spend more time in the west. If you want beaches you have Costa Vicentina, Lagos and Albufeira (usually has warmer water than the west side). If you like running around seeing the highest number of stuff, check the extras i said in the end. (A travel agency or wtv should hire me) xD
Cool, thanks for sharing. 👍🏼 Your route is cool for a holiday, my itinerary was designed with efficiency in mind to see the various places to live (not to have a holiday) so they can come back and stay for a longer period of time to see if it's the right area to buy a home.
Very helpful videos and info. Landing faro next week YAY have rental Airbnb Albufeira Marina. Expect to explore the Algarve for a week, throw in a bike tour in faro. How about some info on that foot ferry into Spain? How about some info on driving to Seville? Can it be accomplished in a day or should we be prepared to overnight? If you had one choice Lisbon or Seville... Which one would provide the best scenic drive in your o'pine?
You can do Seville in a day if you rush. It's about 2 hours drive. Both highways (Lisbon and Seville) are not very scenic, the small roads offer that (see my N2 video: "Beware the highway to Lisbon!")
