Cartesian products can create sets of ordered pairs which correspond to points in 2-dimensional space, or ordered triples which correspond to points in 3-dimensional space. These sets form the logical foundation of the Cartesian coordinate system.

Ahh, This explains to me the confusion I had on Multiplication of Matrices on why you had to multiply rows by columns with different dimensions. (such as 2X3*3X2) and why you cannot divide those.

correct me if I am mistaken but isn't the first element of Set A supposed to repeat for the first 3 ordered pairs. For example (a1,b1),(a1,b2),(a1,b3)... but the video shows the first elemenet changing and the second element repeating, as in (a1,b1),(a2,b1),(a3,b1). Anybody care to explain?

A Cartesian product is a set of ordered pairs. Although the order that the elements of an ordered pair are listed is important, the order in which the elements of a set are listed is irrelevant. i.e., Two sets containing the same elements are equivalent, regardless of the order in which the elements of the sets are listed.

I understand all of the material, thanks so much for it. I'm wondering though, where you create a 2-d grid for visualizing set-A of squares and set-B of triangles, if order is used for practical purposes. For example the set A = {1,2,3} AND set B = {a,b,c} the cartesian product could be ordered randomly on a grid. In other words, placing 1,2,3 ordered in numerical value for the columns, AND a,b,c in alphabetical order for rows, is just a practical action, correct?

hi, it is interesting that when we make three dimensions with three planes, all the same colors of squares and triangles overlap, but not the stars. three different colored stars(from back to front blue, green, and red) overlap when we make three dimensions. I took a snapshot, I wish I could send it to you. thank you.

Great, that answers my question. So a set with ordered elements creates a new object called an "ordered set" and according to wikipedia, real numbers, natural numbers and integers, for example, are all total ordered sets. Everything in math is so well defined. Thanks!

hi, a trivial question, how would you interpret just one grid with 3 elements? Imagine we have 3 sets, and each has just one element, square, triangle, and star respectively. Is that still going to be 3 dimensions or three-dimensional object? thank you.
