I loved Alias as a kid. One of the few shows that I own physically and digitally. Probably the reason why Iloved A Series of Unfortunate Events so much. They are very similar.

I actually really enjoyed watching Alias! Yes, I thought the "Michael Vaughn isn't really Michael Vaughn" twist and the whole Prophet 5 story line was a bit far fetched, and the last couple of episodes of the final season felt rushed, but I still liked it.

I used to watch this as a teen and I was super obsessed with it because of the spy stuff! I´ve never actually finished the series, so I don´t understand much about the Rambaldi prophecy. Thank you for this video!

Loved the show (seen it three times) despite the declining quality... What strikes me most with JJ Abrams in his writing is the daddy issues - always plays a big role in his work.

I feel like if they relied back rambaldi’s “grandiose”; grounding the show more and instead focus on the characters mysteries and not that guys, it would’ve been a lot less frustrating. I wanted to learn more about project Christmas, or other government ran projects yk? I loved the characters but season 5 felt like a shot in the heart. I know scheduling conflicts were an issue, but I really liked Weiss and Nadia- so when he didn’t even show up at her funeral it hurt lol. Also the thought of Jack being dead under the rubble, never to be properly buried, soul metaphorically trapped; keeping Arvin from leaving that cave, hurts in more ways I can understand 😭 I think especially the early seasons had a problem with telling and not showing (season 3 cough cough) we got a whole episode cutting back and forth between Nadia’s past, could they not have utilized that more? Season fours more stand alone episodes were cool to me, specifically the one where Sydney is bit and starts hallucinating, plus when Jacks radiation poisoning starts getting to him. The way they flipped back and forth between reality and imagined was cool to me (I might just be easy to please tho). I did like how we got more insight into the characters who should be helming the show. The show lost me the moment Vaughn said that wasn’t his real name like dude I didn’t care about the dad who died when you were 8 then and I don’t care now- move the hell on. Back to those episodes from season four, I thought they had really creative editing styles, if they took more of a thriller style approach that would’ve been cool too. I’m no writer tho, so maybe I sound like an idiot lol. Either way, thanks for the video! Some of Sydney’s costumes were pretty cute, but they absolutely needed to tone down the skimpy ones/ sexual situations she’d have to put herself in “for the mission”. I liked when other people got to dress up with her, like if Jack got to go on more missions with her.

Season 4 was suit-interference. They felt the show was too intelligent, and confusing, so dumb it down. The original file plan was to go into more detail on Project Christmas.

Yep. Execs want “stand alone episodes” not overarching mysteries. Not the character fault

I feel like JJ Abrams could produce a show with Brit Marling and Zal Batmanglij (creators of The OA), Sci-fi, thriller, mystery, storyline with Brit and Zal's brain and very well plotted stories might do very well.

Bro i watched all the first couple seasons because they had the dvds at the library and i had no idea about the artifacts or the sci fantasy stuff at all so that shows you how well written it was LOL

It wasn't actually that bad when I saw it live on t.v but I do agree they could have put a bit more time into the final season it felt like it was rushed + Jennifer Garner being pregnant during the filming as well probably was a bit of cause.

Unpopular opinion: the story actually improved at the expense of “superficial show” quality; the main plot is the father-daughter bond-the one line from Ep 3 season 1 “science will know God” explains so much (last episode: “Rambaldi is life. Through him, we can live forever.”) The allegorical-metaphorical Dostoevsky-style (including four-temperament psychology layer) is the reason I watched this from start to end:) God bless.

What about the Rambaldi/Sidney baby? Was she 'the One'? She knocked over that thingy, after assembling it first, indicating she would be the one bringing utter desolation, in the final episode.....didn't she?? Always thought she would bring Rambaldis prediction to fruition...but does one really care anyways... At least I've learned to avoid anything j.j.abrams, and after the final seasons of Blacklist, jon bokenkamp. And no, they do not deserve capital letters!

All of JJ's work seems to have plots that make no sense but the rest of the show is entertaining at least at first. I enjoyed Alias season 1 and 2. Sure, not perfect but fun. Love Syd, her dad, ner mom, Dixon and Marshall. The spy stuff was cool, wish they had dropped Rimbaldi and just did a more conventional story. But then it lost it's way and got really silly. Lost is a better show as is Fringe if you co8nt that one.

I remember also being surprised when I went back to watch Alias once that so much of the plot I'd remembered happened in the first season and a half, with about 2/3 of the show left to go. It's sad how it declined in quality, but I did generally enjoy it as a kid & young teen when it aired.

Thank you. Much appreciated. I've been putting off watching this series because it's a JJ Abrams show. I almost started to watch it today. But your review saved me from a Rambaldi-sized headache.

Just skip the parts that start to annoy/anger/confuse/bore you. You can still get a lot of enjoyment from it if you focus on what´s interesting to you (guessing not the Rambaldi plots, but maybe the different settings, the spying, the characters...).
