Absolute BEST band ever! I saw them twice 1972 and 74 when they ruled the world. NOBODY came close.

Dennis has to be the greatest bass player in one of the greatest bands way back then.

How anyone could put the headphones on, listen to Dennis on the first 2 albums and not come to the conclusion he was among the best if not THE BEST is beyond me.

Feel sorry for younger people that never saw the original band line up, because that's what the real Alice Cooper experience was all about. That band was beyond cool.

Met Dennis at the Hamilton Show he is talking about here ... so friendly, I asked him about his Gibson SG Bass on the Back of “Love It To Death” hanging in Cleveland R&R Hall of Fame etc he handing me his Fender Jazz Bass telling me “This is The Bass I used on All The Albums !” Such an exceptionally nice man , a true gentleman... I’ve said many times J.J. Burnel from The Stranglers did the same thing !! My two favourite Bass Players both giving me their Basses to hang around my neck , How Strangely Cool is that ?! ... really enjoyed this interview, again Dennis !!

Rock stardom did not spoil Dennis Dunaway's down to earth attitude. Great person.

Dennis, a real class guy, Love the original band.......since 1972 they were our heroes in high school. Saw them many times.

Dennis was always my favorite member of the band. His book and this interview reinforce that. He sounds like such a nice guy.

Dennis is the greatest and if you haven't read his book "Snakes, Guillotines, Electric Chairs! My adventures in the Alice Cooper Group" ...it is a GREAT read!

Alice and the boys came to Nashville in Dec.,1973. I remember Santa Claus coming out on stage. All I can say is that Santa did not receive a warm welcome. Those bad Cooper boys. Being 16 I was in Rock n' Roll heaven!!

This is wonderful - Dennis is so generous with information and details in this interview. Love his comments on the Pretties For You era, Easy Action, Muscle of Love, and the Battle Axe show. This is a real treasure. Thanks

Love your music; and awed by your bass Denis! Michael hangs in H-town some days. Your Rock rescued me from my sister's Winnie the Pooh partridge family, Osmond funk, LOL! Dead Babies made her cry and I rocked ever since.

My home town of Champaign Il, shut Alice Cooper for the BDB tour. We all were so pissed. & then they split, so it goes. I was 13 at the time. It is great to her dennis live.

I have tried to like several comments, but for some reason it won't work. Love this interview with Dennis, and many of the comments associated with it.

"Killers" is my favorite AC album. I would have ask Dennis if they were tripping on acid when they did the album cover pic's? sure looks that way. Some great bass work done on that album also.

Saw the Killer Show in early '72. My first major concert and a night I'll never forget. Became a rabid fan instantly. Love it to Death and Killer will always be my 2 favorite albums by them. Saw the B$B's show in '73 as well.

Saw ACG years before '18'. Saw them play first two albums and singles as well. They were total MANIACS! I was into ZEP, YES, Crimson , Genesis, Sabbath , Free, etc, however, ACG blew me away with their first two 'experimental' lp's... Love all the changes in the songs and nariety of tunes.

I remember seeing Dennis Dunaway and Neil Smith at a bar down in the villiage in New York City many years ago but many years after Alice Cooper. Not sure who the guitar player or singer was though. Dennis came out with black glass with red for eye balls. It was a great show.

"Alice" is Alice. Whatever Vincent Furnier did with it afterward is all on him. Some is good/some not so much. Still, It's Alice!

The Alice Cooper Group is the real Alice Cooper, everything else he did on his own was just cabaret and never as good as the band. The best albums were all from Love It To Death through to Muscle Of Love. The band looked great, they had that "IT" factor so many bands are searching for and musically they were raw and edgy. Alice lost all of that as it became very contrived and almost a parody after 1975.
@yellingelk
@yellingelk 9 лет назад
Damn right... Alice Cooper (the band) were absolutely brilliant and their music still sounds fresh and more than holds up today. I still listen to those early albums and it never fails to give me a lift! As good as albums like 'Welcome to my Nightmare' and 'Goes to Hell' etc were... for me.. they were pretty much 'Bob Ezrin productions', which featured Alice Cooper 'formerly known as Vince Furnier'. The original band were exactly that... 'a band' and they were great!

I believe Alice's lineup for "Love it to Death" and "Killer" was the absolute best, rawest, gritty, most talented rock band ever. They epitomized rock 'n roll.

Skip the first 2 minutes of the interview in which the two radio guys and Dennis painstakingly and repeatedly establish that: 1) everyone's doing good, if not GREAT 2) the weather's tolerable, tho perhaps problematic. Gets real good after that.

DD was the first bass player to make the bass an instrument to be noticed and listened to and not merely a melodic metronome. Best rock bassist bar none!

so is the story about them consulting the ouija board for the band name false?
@SunnyHippies

TheAzraelCrowley Vince Furnier/ALice Cooper made up the name, they did a ouji board a week later and Vince was moving the thing to say Alice.

Kind of funny how they didn't mind having a girls NAME ( Alice ), yet he says they wouldn't do "girls songs". And, of course, Alice himself did romantic pop songs on his future "solo" albums ( like I Never Cry, You and Me, How you Gonna See Me Now ).

A lot of people negative AC after he went solo. Sorry, his string of albums, Nightmare, Lace & Whiskey, Goes to Hell, From the Inside, Flush the Fashion, Special Forces, are the greatest albums of Anyone, not just AC. Nuff said.

You are 100% wrong. While many of the solo records have good tunes, the original group made the best music, hands down.

For me Alice Cooper Band is the one and only. Not AC solo. Without Michael Bruce as a songwriter, Neil Smith on drums, Dennis Dunaway on bass or the late Glenn Buxton on lead guitar, Alice was far far less as a solo artist
