Alice literally saved my life. His music got me through years of horrible abuse and gave me the courage to get myself through tech and university and to bring up four amazing, successful sons and my friend's daughter and special needs son ❤️. My absolute favorite is "I Never Cry." It's been my mantra, my anthem, and I wish I could have thanked him for all the comfort when I really wanted to give up. I know countless others must feel the same.
I find myself singing this song to myself often lately as life has taken a turn,being 61 was unemployed and hit rock bottom .Everything that can go wrong has.So many Songs Alice has sang was the perfect song at the moment.

This song's about alcoholism. It's so sad. When you drink yourself till you can't feel anymore. When you can't remember the last time you cried . Alcohol takes all your emotions away. Awesome song. Alice is great
Matthew Durkin I think it's actually about intergenerational trauma. which leads to dissociation (i.e. separating your heart from your mind which is why he "never cries") and yes, addiction: alcoholism but also, watching excessively TV, as examples of (unhealthy) coping mechanisms, stemming from the unresolved deep MASSIVE childhood pain. He describes it beautifully.
Well, the song goes along with "How You Gonna See Me Now." It is very much about Alice's time struggling with his addiction. He stated that he couldn't remember the last time he cried.

Agree with comment below that Alice is the most underrated ballad writer in the history of music. And the most underrated performer of ballads. Love his other stuff too, but he strips the ballads right down to where they break your heart.

I learned about Alice Cooper in the late 70's. 1985 or 1986 I first heard Alice Cooper as a teenager. I was hooked. I've been a since then. Department Of Youth and I Never Cry are 2 of my top all time favorite songs.
Love Alice Cooper and one of my favorite songs of his, like so many. My most memorial concerts in the late 1980's, Alice's back up band could not make it, he had Guns N' Roses take their place, one of the best concerts ever! I showed a video to my Grandson of Alice, he told me you were, so lucky to have seen him in concert, I plan on bringing him in the future, to one of his concerts.

My eyes welled up the first time I watched this a month ago so I had to stop and try again later. Wow. Later I found out about his past troubles. Great song and performance! I knew nothing about him before...I only knew Poison and Clones before that and now I love so many of his songs!

likely was a blessing ultimately because I quickly learned it was the ONLY way I could ever enjoy that drug again....and at the same time I learned it was impossible to continue in ...when I sampled freebase smoking I instantly knew it was the same in every way ....a NO GO despite being so seductive...the friend I had that shared it with me was likely surprised I turned my nose up at doing it anymore ...he did not understand that I had already "been there done that"

Great song! I really like all of Alice Cooper's Albums even "Lace & Whiskey as well as really liked "Goes To Hell" and "From The Inside" All of them just brilliant songs and vocal performance along with alot of character as always! Alice is the "Greatest Showman" in Rock n Roll" period!

There were sub zero temperatures that night, with a long ride home on my 650cc Kawasaki. Because I was on the front of the bike, I got all the freezing winds, with my leather jacket and jeans frozen stiff by the frost when I eventually got off the bike. Took me a while to straighten up again from the riding position....was like that scene from Dumb And Dumber... 😊 Was a great concert by the way... Thanks for replying!

It's something, that Alice didn't care for the ballad songs like this that he did. Like, being a ballad was not a "rock" thing. KISS initially discounted "Beth" too, till it went number 1. I like this song from Alice, as well as "You and Me", which is also a ballad. The other song I like is, of course, "School's Out". Not a ballad, but a favorite.

My first impression of Alice was this devil with raspy voice. Ironic how he said he hate the devil but the character he play is so devilish. I was shocked when I saw this. Alice sang beautiful with a smooth voice that I never heard of before.

I seen Alice at Proctors in Schenectady when it was redone and he had everything with him because of the stage was set up for the theatrical show he was famous for. Will never forget for the rest of my life!
