Maybe Staley's voice was something else in this recording. Fucking spine chilling. Sublime version of The Rooster. Thank god for the people who post this stuff for us all to hear.
Well said. Imagine this recording being locked away somewhere and none of us getting to hear it. That would be terrible. Something very haunting about Layne’s voice here.
I remember the first time I heard "Would?" in high school. It felt like Layne's voice was reaching out from the 6th dimension. It was more human than human. One of the all-time greats.
How good is the drummer to be able to stay so laid back in the pocket during a live performance?!? It’s such a natural tendency to increase tempo when playing live but this guy just OWNS it. Such an unsung hero of this band in my opinion.
One of the best rock songs ever written. The ambiance of the guitar riff puts you in the Vietnam jungle. (For those that don''t know, the song was written about Cantrell's dad's experience in Vietnam).
Stoked I found this version! I remember first hearing it & hadn't seen Layne Staley before yet, so when I finally saw him I thought "THAT amazing, powerful voice is comin from that little fellow?!?" Such an inspiration! All of them.
First time i heard this song was in Knoxville when they opened for ozzy layne was wearing a cast on his leg..needless to say they blew ozzy off the stage ! Since then one of my favorite songs and bands
If I could pick any song to go live the moment in it’d be this performance this song this day moment for moment. I wish I could have experienced what his voice sounded like live, at this time of his career at that. This guy influenced me more musically than anyone else in this world and I’m a drummer. I will always be connected to this band
Anyone else here think Alice In Chains should have only ever done live albums? Their studio stuff is awesome, but it never had anywhere near the nuance of feeling and richness their live stuff does.
I'd love a live album from them. We have that compilation one but I'd like a full setlist to be released. Unfortunately they had to stop touring in 1993 because of Layne going to rehab, I'm glad they kept him in the band though. Other groups would have replaced him and kept going.
I was there! So many excellent concerts at the Barra's around that time. RIP Layne x FNM, Fishbone, Ice Cube, Public Enemy, Joe Satriani, Black Crowes, RHCP, Seputura, Anthrax, Pantera, Megadeth, Prodigy, Ministry, janes Addiction (best show ever), Primus, Living Colour among the highlights of my early 90's barrowlands shows.
I love the line, they were like some apocalyptic machine every night. Said Layne was the most powerful rock singer he had ever seen. In same class as plant Mercury n Rob Halford, that is some serious company n well deserved! This is absolutely ridiculous! It’s a shame not more professional recordings of them live from this time. Almost no lallapalooza recordings or footage n he was in his prime as was band!
This is the only song that hit me so hard, I remember exactly when and where I was the first time I heard it. I was working for a landscaping company driving to a job site in the truck and was hooked right away! I didn’t know who it was (the band) but knew I had to find out! Told everybody about it! Pivotal moment in music history for me! Thank You for the upload! RIP LS
