Duvall is not Layne. He is not Layne's replacement. He is his own man, and an excellent musician. Saying he's Layne's replacement is the same as saying Inez was Starr's replacement. Though AIC isn't the same anymore, they are still writing great music, and therefore continuing the legacy of their fallen band mates.
I pray Jerry lives for decades. Soo much potential left in this group it's unreal. If we could just get all these young musicians doing perfect covers of older rock/metal to write and record some of their own stuff we might have a chance for a new era of rock, but sadly there's been a horrible paradigm shift in music where new rock just doesn't germinate and grow anymore.
Inez pulling out the same Alvarez Acoustic Bass from '96 - Same model anyway or he wiped off the "friends dont let friends get friends haircuts" thing. ha
I can’t believe there are people who rather the band never reformed just because Layne is gone, we would’ve missed out on so much good music like this song
Not many are making music anymore, just sounds. And everyone needs to remember Lane was extremely fkn talented but so was Jerry equally in voice and song writing. They Both made AIC what they are. I think Will is doing his best and knows he can never take Lane's place but he will certainly do him justice by doing his best to honor the memory as well as grow as a great singer himself.
Time to change has come and gone Watched your fears become your God It's your decision It's your decision Overwhelmed, you chose to run Apathetic to the stunned It's your decision It's your decision You feed the fire that burned us all When you lie To feel the pain that spurs you on Black inside No one plans to take the path that brings you lower And here you stand before us all and say it's over It's over It might seem an afterthought Yes, it hurts to you know you're bought It's your decision It's your decision You feed the fire that burned us all When you lie To feel the pain that spurs you on Black inside It's your decision It's your decision No one plans to take the path that brings you lower And here you stand before us all and say it's over It's over, it's over
So happy for Jerry and Alice in Chains William is a awesome addition to the band talent is amazing . Rock on ...Layne is never forgotten but keep healing hearts with your great music !!!
his voice blends with Jerry's pretty seemlessly & as you can see here on this particular song William is no slouch taking turns playing lead guitar as him and Jerry take turns .. I was skeptical but this band is definitely resurrected
This is an absolutely flawless performance. Jerry Cantrell in my opinion, is and always has been the creative genius and driving force behind AIC. Jerry has composed 95% of all the music and better than half the lyrics AIC has ever released. Much respect to Layne (RIP). There is no question he is one of the greatest vocalists and frontmen in the history of rock. But there are only so many songs you can write about the destructive behavior of addiction before it starts to get boring....and his lyrics were beginning to get repetitive and very very boring. It's true Jerry has written several songs on the subject of addiction, but he hasn't let it consume his song writing. Jerry is a very capable vocalist, hell...he's a great vocalist, just listen to his vocals on this song. DuVall is a perfect fit and a very capable replacement for Layne. He's also a great guitarist. He and Jerry harmonize beautifully together. BGWTB is my personal favorite from AIC, and I've been a fan from the beginning.
+Mainrollman Agree on most what you said, but still I like them better from Layne era and never get used to new stuff. I guess its partly because I am getting old and I am destructive myself :P I also like Jerry solo albums very much.
I fear Jerry has come to a point where he doesn't care no more about the artistic output. BGWTB was a great work to get AIC back, to move on. Problem is the Dinosaur album is uninspired and it seems they can live with it. Not a problem at all apparently for them. The AIC brand is well known now and you can always lean on revival if the new songs are not well received.
I think you're close. Respectfully, there are those who will never outrun their addictions and in that sense, talking about addiction can save lives and will never get boring. It can save a life :) Layne may have saved many lives by singing that he was in so much pain. He made reaching out for help possible for many of us. Myself included.
OMG Jerry is absolutely adorable. The music is so calming. Very relaxing to me. Thank you guys. Just posted on my Alice in Chains USA fan page on facebook
Relaxing? This song is far too tragic to be relaxing.....watch your fears become your god....might not be a more primal lyric ever written.....I am 50 and my eyes tear up every time
alice in chains hoy 2016 siguen tocando muy bien. excelente trabajo de William a nivel vocal y guitarras. Lamento que haya tanta cabeza dura hablando mal... en mi opinión váyanse al carajo. Alice In chains 4 ever!
I love this 'subdued' performance. AIC has always been one of my top three bands. That being said, it took a while to 'like' this song. I love these guys. .... And miss playing/singing their songs with my brother James Richard Daunhauer who passed in Nov 2014. Hold onto those you love, folks. ❤️
AIC to this day are better & more talented than 98% of music being made. They lived through losing 2 of their best friends... not to mention band members. William Duvall is a badass to step in front of a band of this magnitude & he kicks ASS! He never mimics Layne, he just happens to sing his ass off! He & Jerry are magic!!!
This is a clear example of how some artists are simply irreplaceable. Yeah...you may be able to find people that sound similar, but at the end of the day it's not a knock on Duvall to say he's no Layne...it's a bittersweet reflection upon a talent that left us way too fucking soon. Same as Chris Cornell, Chester Bennington, and Prince. I'm not the only one that feels that Layne would've brought a different flare to this song. That's not disrespecting Duvall...it's acknowledging that Layne is truly missed by AIC fans like me.
If anybody needs a reason to like William....Jerry is one of the coolest people alive...and he thinks William is cool so that's a pretty authentic endorsement if you ask me...
And "The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here" sounds like it could've been on Facelift. I was floored the first time I heard the Duvall-era AiC, even without Layne it sounds like they never left and that's a hell of a testament to how great they are.
Problem is there isn’t enough music made like what we got out of the 90s-early 00s, which means there is less of an a emotional connection and that leads to less viewers, sucks but that sadly the current state of the industry.
Gabriel--That had a totally different feel because you could tell Layne and Jerry were playing live. The others in that band were not. Sludge Factory proved that, but also the sharp sound. This sound has a dull film over it. I bet Jerry has a hard time with that..
