Most of these voice artists worked on radio shows. We lost a lot, when scripted radio was replaced with DJs and talk-radio, which were much cheaper to produce. Bill Thompson was on "Fibber McGee and Molly". Verna Felton and Joseph Kearns were on "The Jack Benny Program". Mel Blanc was on "The Jack Benny Program", and "The Mel Blanc Show". But they, like most radio actors, appeared on several radio shows. Mel was particularly in demand for his vocal sound effects. Norma Zimmer became the last of Lawrence Welk's Champagne Ladies.

Bill Thompson, my uncle, also had his own radio show as well as guest appearances on other programs moving his voice acting into many animations we are familiar with. This radio career followed a long career in vaudeville, getting onstage during my grandparents act when he was 2.

So, I’ve been seeing a lot of movies that came out WAY before I was born. And I just noticed something about this movie and a 70s movie called Super Seal. So, you know when Alice goes to the White Rabbit’s house, he has a servant named Mary Ann. And you know that Sterling Holloway voices the Cheshire Cat. THEN, if we fast forward about 26 years in the future, in ‘76, he stares in Super Seal. And he’s supposed to have a granddaughter named MARY ANN. Mary Ann was played by Sarah Brown, and I think that she’s the most adorable girl in the world. Seriously, you have to see this movie! It’s phenomenal!! And the songs are so catchy!! And the title probably doesn’t make a lot of sense to some of you, but trust me, it is worth the watch 👌🏻🙂
@imahotmess872
@imahotmess872 2 года назад
I don’t know why, as an 11 year old, they chose MaryAnn for her name. I’m hoping that’s where they got the inspiration. I may be wrong 🤷🏻‍♀️

1:16 That was the hardest job J Pat O Malley did. Nothing against him as he was still a great actor but if Eddie Laughton (Three Stooges actor) were to voice the Carpenter (he never did in real life), then Alice in Wonderland would have been his last film role. Just a thought of what would happen if he just did the Warlus and Tweedle Dee as Billy De Wolfe were to voice Tweedle Dum, which he never did in real life. Goes to show that multiple roles can be hard and stressful for some folks.

Richard Haydn was one of England's GREAT actors, who spent many years in the US (fortunately for us). UN-fortunately, he was usually cast in goofy, adenoidal, professor roles, such as the "Edwin Carp" character he created for radio (and which he played in the Dick van Dyke show episode from Season 3). If you want a shock, check the 1947 costume drama "Forever Amber" and Haydn's performance as the icy, cruel Earl of Radcliffe. You won't believe it's the same guy! LR
