Ah yes, the quiz that was loaded so Alice would win, in order to get one over the stuck up arrogant Horton. The relationship between the vicar and Horton has similarities with the home guard and the wardens in Dads Army.

I too am glad she rigged the quiz in Alice’s favor. David did need to be brought down a peg. He showed his least lovable side when he was so hostile to Alice marrying his son.

@@nancyhey1012 True, especially as his son was hardly the brain of Britain. One of the great things about that comedy is the way the vicar handled David when he was wrong, and David ultimately respected her values even if he didn't agree with them all the time.

@@adamlea6339 True, Hugo was also kind of simple-minded, but also good-natured, and Gerri had very good intentions in wanting to bring them together, she felt they would be very happy together, which they were. David should have been happy for them, which I guess he was over the long term, but when they first got married, he certainly was a first class jerk!

The 1960/70s series 'All Gas and Gators' was so much funnier and closer to the Anglican church at work and prayer. The characters were exaggerated but much more believable than Dawn French and her band of over acting parishioners.

'All Gas and Gators' I think was a muscle car and aquatic predator heavy TV series set in the Florida Everglades. You may be thinking of Derek Nimmo's starring vehicle: 'All Gas and Gaiters'. Am I right?
