AdL's RCA cycle of the late Mozart concertos are on the whole disappointing, but her live performances of the same concertos are on a different level...its almost as if they're different pianists playing.
What nonsense. In what way are they disappointing? I find them a culmination of a lifetime’s expression: wise, dignified, beautifully played. I listen to them often and return to them for the unique insight Larrocha brings. It’s quite clearly the same pianist playing. Give them another listen, you will discover wonders.
The RCA of K. 271 and 467 are a real snore compared to her brilliant live performances of the same works. She was clearly past her prime when she recorded the cycle of the late concertos…and you will find no greater fan than me…I adore her…
I totally disagree. Larrocha’s performance of the second movement of Jeunehomme is one of her most profound recordings. I think it’s bordering on ridiculous to use ‘snore’ to describe it. A culmination of wisdom.
