Cats have been onboard ships since ancient times. In addition to being good company, they catch any rodents that might otherwise ruin the food stores. In the case of the Nostromo, rodents might also chew through the ship's wiring system, which could be very serious when you're literally an astronomical distance from home. Thanks for the reaction!
27:45 "Oh, that's to blow up the ship, not to take with them." No. The ship can blow up just fine. That stuff is air. The shuttle doesn't have enough sleep beds for 3 people so some of them have to live and breathe and eat and drink all the way back home. But it's a shuttle, not a life boat. It's only meant for very short trips of an hour or a few hours. So they need to bring air to breathe. Also food and water. Enough for several months.

11:24 "The smoke clearly looks unreal." Funny thing is, it is all real. They did not have CGI in 1979. You see in this movie the best computer graphics they have in that year. For example: the ground at 6:13. They literally had no way to film smoke except by making smoke. In this case, they are shining a blue laser through it so it looks really strange, but it is real smoke. Everything in this movie is real: real sets, real costumes, real monsters (well, mostly a guy in a suit or mechanical moveable monster parts), real ships (small enough to hold in your hands, but still really something you could touch and hold).
I actually used the wrong word, I meant unnatural, trying to imply it looked like smoke from smoke machines and not actual, or rather natural smoke from the natural surface 🙈🙈 thanks for clearing it up 🙃
33:20 "Can't you get something and stab it while it's waking up?" No. Acid blood. A few drops melted through 2 and a half decks. That thing has gallons. Stab it and it bleeds a gallon of blood, it melts a hole out into space and all the air goes with it. That has been the problem all along. These guys have guns. We see them carrying them at the beginning when they first go to explore the alien ship. But they can't shoot it or do anything that makes it bleed.

The space jockey's skeleton must have been a huge prop. I saw this movie the first time in a dark, largely empty theater, and I can vouch that the prop designer definitely achieved the effect he wanted.
You're right about the interior of the alien spaceship design looking like a "spine." The intention of the set designer was to make the ship look horrifying non-human, so a lot of bone shapes were used to give the audience the feeling that they were inside a rib cage. It certainly worked in my case when I saw this film the first time in a dark theater. As the inside of the alien ship was revealed, I had the repulsive feeling of being surrounded by bones. It was like the alien spaceship was a corpse that had been dead a long time.

That is one dark, tense movie, set in a huge poorly-lit ship. (Probably they saved money on the sets by having so little light in most areas, so that details remained unseen.) Good reaction!
I just found your channel and I loved the reaction but the second thing I loved was the pink panther ! I havent seen one of those in years! I use to love the cartoons when the local library had vhs tapes use to rent out whatever ones that had his face on it.

Dankie, ek gaan almal kyk, ek het beide Predator en Alien se volle DVD stelle, maar is nie heeltemaal seker of die special editions ook op hierdie DVD's is nie, maar anders sal ek moet loer op Netflix of iewers 🤔 sal in volgende jaar voortgaan met die res van die reeks 🙂
