ALIEN (1979) Movie Reaction - The Belly Explosion Was A LOT

This video consists of me trying to watch the movie Alien while my CATS bully me lmao. All jokes aside, I thought this movie was very good and very ahead of its time. The practical effects were A JOY to watch and the fact that the main character and hero was a woman, just makes it all the more interesting. I also want to say that I appreciate that they didn't kill the cat lol and that RIPLEY was RIGHT for not wanting to let the crew members BACK IN THE SHIP. Ok, message terminated.

@morrigannibairseach1211 2 года назад
Yeah having two shuttles that fit three each amounts to 6. Not 7. I may not be great at math but I can do it well enough to know the company wouldnt have let it known Ash was a robot if they needed to use the shuttles. Robot is too expensive for them to not want it back. Not to mention if it isnt in a film it's not canon so it doesnt matter there was originally a second shuttle we weren't told about. So yeah to reiterate and add to what was said above you know your company is evil when it not only doesnt have enough escape craft for the crew but it expects one of you to sacrifice your life for the robot they made.

Ripley tried to stop the destruction of the ship because the alien was blocking her way out. She wanted more time to find a solution to make it go away. But as it was too late to stop the procedure she had no other choice than to try again to escape, even if it may be around.

"They should talk to the union." Well that's a bit of an issue, because there is no union, and the company (Weyland-Yutani) runs absolutely everything. That's why they call it, 'The Company'. There are also reasons that the company put that clause in their contracts, and programmed the computer to wake them up upon detection of certain types of signals, and gave them an android for a science officer.

She panicked when realizing she couldn’t make it to the escape pod and blocked by the alien. she was under a lot of stress so she ran back and tried to disengage the self destruct but she realized it was to late and had no other choice but to move forward. The scene is relating to the panicked stress she was under so there is no rhyme or reason why she attempted to do it other then that. Also earlier in the movie they talked about how one the reactors cooling units was overheating when they were trying to repair the ship so it can be assumed that it contributed to the self destruct failing to reverse it self. That’s the reason In my opinion.
@winstonviceroy6125
@winstonviceroy6125 2 года назад
Actually, when the destruct is started, they have the first 5 mins to disengage it. She just didn't make it in time. If you listen to mother she even mentions it at 34:05 thru 34:25.

You wrote "earlier in the movie they talked about how one the reactors cooling units was overheating when they were trying to repair the ship so it can be assumed that it contributed to the self destruct failing to reverse it self. That’s the reason In my opinion." I explained to you that she only had 5 mins to turn it off which she did not do in time which is the real reason it didn't "reverse it self". Did you even read what I had wrote? I mean the movie is doing a countdown, and even mother says the option to override has expired. Why assume a reactor coolant problem would be involved when it's clearly an expired time issue. Cleary what I said in my comment.
@landfillentertainment988
@landfillentertainment988 2 года назад
@@winstonviceroy6125 it’s an assumption, assuming a cooling unit is currently already overheating that could’ve lead to the engine having issues to begin with. Opening up that possibility makes it more plausible for this to have been the likely outcome to the engines cooling units malfunctioning therefore being irreversible. So in my opinion no matter what she did it would’ve been doomed for her because the engines cooling units were already experiencing problems almost like a glitch you can’t fix.
@winstonviceroy6125
@winstonviceroy6125 2 года назад
@@landfillentertainment988 Yeah lets forget the information put in your face of mother telling her the time has expired for turning off the self-destruct. In your opinion, if the engines were going to explode anyways, why would she go back to disengage the self-destruct anyways? Oh thats right, she panicked. Yet she still had the clarity to know she needed more time to get to the shuttle and needed to turn off the self-destruct. And where in the movie did anyone mention engine cooling machinery? I'd like to review that bit of info.

Fun fact about this movie: the scene where the Alien bursts out of Kane's chest, they didn't tell the actors exactly what was going to happen. Watching the movie at 1:30am?! You are brave! Movies like this, even though I love them, if I watch them too late guaranteed nightmares. Your sketch from memory was pretty damned good! 20 years without seeing it and you got the head shape right and the body! Got to love the creepy designs that H. R. Giger came up with, memorable creatures without feeling "fake" or over the top, yet so unique at the time. I have a small "connection" to this movie. The screen writer, Dan O'bannon, had the same health condition I have; Crohn's. It's a condition where parts of your digestive track can become inflamed and very sore, including the intestines - which was the inspiration for the chest burster scene. Which I can attest to, I've had a few flare ups where its felt like something has wanted to tear itself out of me (yay for modern medication that keeps it at bay most of the time!) Love this movie and its sequel (A must watch!), pretty much everything holds up - effects (the dissection of the face huger looks so damned good), cinematography, acting, script. A true classic. Personally, I find it a bit slow on re-watch, but on first viewing it creates nail biting tension. The character of Ripley was originally written for a man, but luckily got changed and we got a stellar performance from Sigourney Weaver (she even won an Oscar for Best Actress from the sequel Aliens in '87): "Scott explained how Ripley was originally written as a man. Discussing the gender flip, Scott said, "I think the idea actually came from Alan Ladd Jr. I think it was Alan Ladd [then president of 20th Century Fox] who said, 'Why can’t Ripley be a woman?' And there was a long pause, that at that moment I never thought about it. I thought, why not, it's a fresh direction, the ways I thought about that. And away we went." You gotta watch Aliens! The other Alien movies after that are ... questionable, but Aliens is also an epic movie and worthy sequel to Alien

27:48 So, the thing to keep in mind with spacecraft is life-support systems (Oxygen supply, carbon dioxide filters, water processing/supply, food supply, etc). In the case of cryo-sleep-based ships, you also have to factor in sleep capacity. You may well be able to squeeze more people in, but if you exceed the capacity of a critical life support system you can kill everyone really fast. For example, suppose your carbon dioxide filters can handle 4 people indefinitely. In that case, 5 might overload the filters, allowing carbon dioxide levels to rise to lethal levels in hours, or days depending on how large the ship is (how much air there is to distribute the exhaled CO2 from the people). The real story of the Apollo 13 mission is a good example of how fast CO2 levels can rise in a small contained spacecraft without adequate CO2 filters.

Ripley tried to turn the cooling unit back on because she realized she needed more time! She had to save Jonesy and with the Alien running around Ripley realized she was running out of time. But with MOTHER being such a beeotch Ripley couldn't get the cooling unit back on in time to cancel the self destruct. So Ripley still had to struggle to save Jones and get the hell off the ship in less than 5 minutes.

The reason that Ripley tries to stop the countdown is that the alien is between her and the shuttle.

When you see the sequel "Aliens" please find the theatrical copy. See that first before you see any additional "director's cut" material. You deserve to see it how audiences experienced it in theaters back in 1986! Good job on the commenting by the way!

I believe the reason Ripley tried to shut off the self-destruct was because the alien had cut her off from the shuttle, back where she left Jones.

This was Ridley Scott's second film which he would follow up with Blade Runner in 1982. Musical score by the legendary Jerry Goldsmith who composed for 256 movies in his illustrious career. Practical effects are awesome. A landmark sci-fi classic. You need to watch the sequel now, Aliens. Nice reaction 👍

You've been like many other reactions I've watched who question why these people are exploring that planet where the "distress" signal was coming from. Stating that they should just say they explored it and get the hell out. Keep something in mind. These people don't know they're in a sci-fi horror movie. Besides the fact that it is in their contract to explore these unknown communications. They also get a share of the discovery. And a discovery like the one they come across when finding an alien ship, would literally make all of them rich beyond imagining. There's no reason for them to think they would encounter anything alive, much less dangerous. Most lifeforms in that environment would of long ago perished. The Xenomorph just happened to be a very special case. So there's a lot of incentives for going in and exploring that ship with what would normally be very low risk. They were just very unlucky.

also fun fact.. when the xeno rips out ... the cast was not told much about the details, nor anything about the practical effect that was to happen ... so their reaction is quite genuine

At that moment, Ripley disappeared, which caused Sigourney Weaver to seek refuge behind Yaphet Kotto. LMAO.

00:53 ~ kitty zoomies. (Lighting's fine. You resemble Gal Gadot in any lighting.) 2:24 ~ Kitty depleted. 6:50 ~ catfight. 11:28 ~ Fierce cat bath followed by Catfight Round 2. 13:33 Catloaf. 14:40 ~ Catfight Round 3. To the victor goes the couch with ample catloaf to follow, as the cat in the film steals the scene... putting the ACT in CAT.

Or, you could take a "working vacation." Ryley Robinson, sign on as Non-Essential Systems Maintenance Chief on the Alterra capital ship "Aurora." After the Phase Gate is built, you can take shore leave to examine the exotic flora and fauna on the unexplored, tropical ocean Planet 4546B. What could go wrong in "Subnautica"?;)

If you want an old really good horror film that you probably havent seen then I suggest the 1973 Wickerman with Cristopher Lee. Christopher Lee was already an A List celebrity from his work as Dracula and such. When he read the script for this B movie he loved it so much he did it *for free* because that's the type of legend he was. He does a phenomenal performance.

Allegedly as they went along in the filming process, the director had the crew shrink the set a little bit now and then to increase the claustrophobia. I am not sure if they told the actors this fact though.

The reason she wanted to override the self destruct was because the Alien was between her and the shuttle so she couldn't board it.

Thinking kane is already dead, and when the larva comes out his thrashing is the movement of it borrowing is the WORST thing. Hes like a living cardboard box with something horrible moving inside it.. . Ash is its birthmaid, he pins kane the zombie down for it to get put "unhindered"

Uh-oh a (somewhat) naive RU-vid viewer is "boarding the "Nostromo" on a dark and foggy night! TV and print ads at the time gave NO clues about the movie, so the slowly appearing line segments in the title raised tension. The "Star Wars-y" exterior of the "Nostromo" was familiar, but the tubular vistas of the interior sparked claustrophobia. The Company demanding the investigation of a "systematized transmission" is/was the equivalent of having a freighter crew go the King Kong island to check out a radio signal. This "trapped in a haunted space craft" movie was a first; would anyone survive? 28:33 This was my "WTF! He's NOT Human?" moment. 35:28 The Alien is blocking the way to the escape shuttle. Ripley had to turn off Self Destruct to come up with another plan. Time ran out on that option. Sigourney Weaver was the new kid on the block; this and the next movie established her as a major movie star and a Strong Female Character, along with Linda Hamilton's "Sarah Connor" ("The Terminator"). On to "Aliens" (1986).
