That, and teen flick adaptations of Shakespeare plays. Definitely a different era of music and films compared to what replaced it ie comic book flicks and the like.
It was. What’s awesome is the new gen really appreciate it. I’m 30 and my friends who are in their early to mid 20’s are starting nu metal bands and alt bands. A lot of appreciation for this era rn
No joke, the lead singers Mom was my dermatologist in high school. Her room was covered in their merch. She had his high school picture there too. It was adorable
Man, there's something captivating about the way the lead singer moves when he sings. He's almost frantic in his movements. It keeps bringing me back to this video for some reason. Years after years.
glad im not the only one. This song is GREAT dont get me wrong but i specifically choose to watch the video over just listening to the song BECAUSE of the way he moves in this video... i dont know what it is
@Captain Sternn they absolutely did stick around. The problem was people ONLY liked Smooth Criminal. They blew up before they developed their sound and the sound they developed was completely different from the Smooth Criminal cover. I love some of their stuff after Ant-hology. They released a single like last year I think. And when I saw them live they killed it. Dryden’s voice is really good live. They’re definitely massively underrated as can be figured out by the dislike for them in this thread.
I haven't dived too much into their catalogue but based on Anthology I would agree. Movies, Smooth Criminal, Attitude are awesome songs. The rest of the album I really didn't care for to be honest :/
Sadly it’s one of those situations where there hit song was bigger then the band itself & that can slow down a bands steam real quick, especially at that time when Nu-Metal was red hot & new bands were coming out the woodwork seemed like each month.
Man, I swear, in my day to day life I feel like I'm the only person on earth that's still in love with the music and culture of the late 90s to early 00s... Then I read the comment sections of my favorite bands, see like-minded badasses and then smile because I'm not as alone as I thought. 🤘🏻🇺🇲🤘🏽
Such an underrated song... 2023 and it still hasn't gotten old. Thank you guys for giving us this time machine to go back and remember our teenage years.
It isn't a cashgrab, it's a labor of love. It does do it for us. Even if it is for money, is it wrong, I mean, I'll pay for such a beautiful noatalgia trip
Close. Take a more careful listen, he said "Dryden-san" (as in Dryden Mitchell, the singer for AAF, the guy who's in the "Daniel" role for this short). But he was a great sport for doing the cameo, and even putting on the accent like he did. Lovely dude he was.
I was born in 1990. Turned 33 shortly before you made this post 😂 the 90s and 2000s were great being a kid was great during that time, grew up on star wars (the original ones) and good music like this.. was such a good time to be a kid.. wish i could go back all the time before my life turned into these songs we listened to 😂
Didn't expect to have such strong nostalgia for this. It's incredible how much music and culture have changed since this was popular. Even the subtle mannerisms of the band tell us it's a different and less serious time.
Bands from 2001 were a lot better in 2001 than they are in 2021. I love Tool and Korn's newest albums, but neither of those bands are as good as they were in 2001. I don't think Tool could ever best Lateralus and Korn will never best Untouchables. Other bands like Disturbed and Linkin Park were also at their best during 2001.
@@GoGetYourShinebox yes, I think the nostalgia and fondness we see in these comments are a yearning for popular culture and music to at least have a space for actual rock bands. It just doesn't exist anymore. Welcome to the Black Parade is the last time I remember a rock album being culturally relevant and popular and the sound being everywhere. Everything has kind of been mulched into a single genre in terms of modern popular music
This is... This is a goodbye letter to every 90s kid who came and went from the 90s. We're all still 90s kids and we refuse to let go of that. It's all we are and it's never going to die.
Yes. I was a teenager in the 90's. The 90's to me will always hve the best music. Even though this didn't come out in the 90's. Re-listened to "ANThology" for the 1st time in years today. An underrated "Nu Metal" classic. But AAF were much more than a nu-metal band. They had more depth. Closer to Deftones for me.
@@SuperRoo_22 I know this didn't come out in the 90s. It came out in like, 2000 or something. And yeah. Alien Ant Farm is so good. I also recently listened to that album.
@@tomgreenfan uh no way there was way less social anxiety , well among teens there was less. Cant say the same for adults. You hung out and played Nintendo , or if you were cool a Sega. Now its like all wifi gaming dont need to leave your house.
@@yucatansuckaman5726 honestly forgot about this song. their great cover of smooth criminal will always be their biggest hit but I actually like this song more. fit the vibe of the time more. nostalgic
@RichV20: it's hard but true, they did something I will forever love, but they never took upon much of a trendsetting, they stopped making music very early, they just got the fans they put the work for, but they didn't do much for the general public. I do experience imposter syndrome, but I'm try not to be biased for myself, although I might be against myself - I don't see that I really am made out to be anything more than 2K. I don't know how much I will or won't make, but I take input from people when making my music
I remember being in 11th grade with dial-up internet. I had downloaded this video and it took about 7 hours. I would start before bed so when I woke up it would be done. I watched it while i got ready for school. Nostalgia overload.
Rosanna Kirk Hahaha awesome. I remember having Windows 98 and downloading the Shrek movie on dial-up. Man it took ages, I think it took like 3 days (as Mum didn't allow me to leave the internet connected.)
Everytime I listen to early 2000's alternative/pop punk, I imagine a montage of university teens preparing for the big party of the summer in a total American Pie-ish way.
Not too far from the truth. It really can't be overstated just how badly 9/11 changed our society. Coming of age in the late 90's, very early 00's was awesome. Everything was just kind of uplifting and fun. Things got really serious, really fast after that.
probably because everyone in those days were actually in communication with one another without technology, and Art was actually taken seriously, but everyone had fun.
Just saw them at Whisky a GoGo on Wednesday night--they still sound tight as ever, they all have FUN, and the crowd had the best friggin time. Dryden made sure each audience member had a moment to remember. These guys are a time capsule.
RAD BEAN exactly. Rest in pieces heath ledger. May you always be cursed for your horrible performance as the Joker, but good job on playing generic psycho clown number 3.
POTFULLOFGREEN Nope. It was a pretty horrible Joker. Really quite atrocious. No sense for the Joker at all. Jack Nicholson did a better Joker. Hell, even Jared Leto did a better one.
Absolutely amazing. Seen them here in Ireland 18months ago best gig I've ever been too. They came in to the bar after, everyone asking for photos I bought them a round of jauggers, my claim to fame lol
37 here in about 3 weeks; I've been going back to all the good tunes back in the day, good stuff for sure! This music video was always the shit (back when artists made music videos lol).
Also just turned 37. Must be the age when the nostalgia takes control and caused all of us to be here reminiscing about the good ol times. I’ve caught myself coming back to this same AAF music video for the past few months. Something about it just brings me back to simpler times.
They don't music like this probably because of capitalism. Music has become a business rather than an art. A lot of things have sadly. Even things as basic as food. Which is why you have all these industrialized practises towards animals that are really cruel, and the only solution is a less cruel version of what we currently have (vegan food).
These kids ain’t built like us musically anymore. I dont know any young kids around me that play an actual instrument. I taught myself to play guitar at 13-14.
look harder and you'll find music like this. there's plenty of talented young artists out there making good music. of course you're going to think that music is garbage nowdays if all you listen to is radio music, or only hang around your like-minded friends. people have been saying "new music is trash" ever since music could be recorded
@@HYPERPEACEdid they have any bands at all in the USSR? We don't have bands because people don't buy music anymore.....why would anyone want to make music and be broke afterwards
This is an astonishingly awesome song. Most people would seem to know Alien Ant Farm for their Smooth Criminal cover but this blows that out of the water.
Now you have a big fat belly, balding with a receding hairline, hemorrhoids, irritable bowel syndrome, dentures, and still a virgin. But rock on, mate. Rock on.
At slow speed we all seem focused In motion we seem wrong In summer we can taste the rain I want you to be free Don't worry about me And just like the movies We play out our last scene Two can play this game We both want power In winter we can taste the pain In our short years, we come long way To treat it bad and throw away I want you to be free Don't worry about me And just like the movies We play out our last scene You won't cry, I won't scream In our short years we come long way To treat it bad and throw away And if we make a little space A science fiction showcase In our short film, a love disgrace Dream a scene to brighten face In our short years we come long way To treat it bad, just to throw it away I want you to be free Don't worry about me And just like the movies We play out our last scene
They released this song originally in 1998 and it flopped. Then they released the smooth criminal cover and blewup, rereleased this song and it was a hit 3 years later lol never give up fam One of my fav songs ever, one of the most underrated bands ever
Yo im 25 and got the privilege to see this great band in person with my best friend on September 16 2023. Dryden fist bumped the both of us im never gonna forget that moment.
When I watch memories like this it just convinces me more and more than we all died shortly after the 90's and now live on some sort of prison planet hell.
Anyone who was a teenager during this time is lucky to have been a part of this era. I can remember exactly where I was, and who I was with when this came out.
This song reminds me of my late husband Richard maquinales. We had some great years together. I miss you and will never forget the greatness we had together ❤
Sitting here rearranging my room. Having my girlfriend move in with me and her kids. Thinking about how blessed I was to grow up in that period. Looking forward to the future and peace and harmony. Such a positive vibe of this music era. Still rocking alien ant farm to this day. Thank you guys for putting out such beautiful music you will forever be a part of me thank you.
Funny that you said that especially with this song, it’s about life after a breakup/divorce haha. I want you to be free, don’t worry about me!! And just like the movies…we played out our last scene 🎶
I'm really starting to think there needs to be some kind of channel, or television station dedicated to exploring songs that came out in the early 2000's. This is my first time hearing this at 21, and I wish I knew of it sooner.
These always remind me of the American pie movies and my summers as a teenager when all I had to worry about was my homework. Sum41, blink 182, wheetus.. etc Great memories
