It’s possible the engineers could have sent the space jockey from alien a few thousand years before Prometheus from the same weapons lab but it was infected with the same thing that happened to the engineer weapons lab in Prometheus. That way it still could have crashed on lv-426 while everything after Prometheus happens independently. In Prometheus after the engineer is woken up he could have been like: “ah bill crashed... I gotta go clean up his mess, wtf there are humans everywhere”

Where the alien universe and lore really jumped the shark for me was when it was suggested that David created the Xenomorphs. That was where I pretty much rage quit on the whole alien saga And if they continue down that line of story telling I probly won't watch another alien movie.
@anydaynow01
@anydaynow01 3 года назад
Yeah it was a stretch but I did enjoy how it brought that story ark full circle considering the berating Weyland gave David about the limitations of androids. Also if I remember correctly David just tweeked the engineer created xenomorphs into the relentless killing machines they were in the later timeline. But I understand where you're coming from, my lore rage came to a head with Alien Resurrection, wow what an inconsistent mess, interesting ideas but the execution was sloppy at best.

Basically making the alien something that was, by extension, man-made, COMPLETELY destroys any sense of wonder or imagination the original films had (especially the first one). The first mistake was attempting to explain them at all, and the second was deviating SO far from the original concept. I went to see Prometheus on opening night, and was pretty much disgusted with it, I have not bothered to watch Covenant, and probably never will.
@JohnnyZenith
@JohnnyZenith 3 года назад
Yep, embarrassing, but then so was the killing off of Shaw and doubling down on the whole black xenomorph running around, Ridley pretending the humanoids in Covenant were Engineers (clearly not) because they'd changed the plot later (clearly they are another seed race not Engineers) and having more embarrassing character choices in Covenant.
@RaikenXion

Same that really annoyed me, i was always fascinated by the Engineers/Space Jockeys and really liked Ridley Scott coming back to the Alien franchise and exploring them and i think he got off to a really solid start with Prometheus. But yeh he really dropped the ball in eluding to the idea that David created the Xenos, that idea is totally stupid. And Ridley even contradicts his own lore and things he appears to have set up in Prometheus. Like what exactly was chasing the Engineers all through that big corridor and we clearly see the last one at the back of that group looks behind him, to see if whatever it is, is still chasing them. Then they reach that giant door where one of them succumbed to the infection, and fell just as the containment door was shut on them, decapitating their head. Then when we get to the Orrery chamber, where David boots up the holographic orrery display; you can just about see burn holes in the Engineer's hypersleep chambers. And whats interesting about this part in the movie is if you watch the beginning of that scene while listening to the director's commentary, Ridley Scott says the following - "something happened, i don't want to get into it" then gets back onto the other things he was talking about, this shows Ridley had something planned out already to do with the whole backstory of what exactly happened during that outbreak on LV-223. One of the biggest complaints made by fans toward Prometheus (aside from dumb scientists and the engineers looking like giant albinos) is that the movie never specifically featured any "Alien/Xenos". But the Xenomorphs were clearly a prominent feature the backstory and main result of what came from the Engineer's research & experimentation at the LV-223 facility. i.imgur.com/RtA3j.jpg This image clearly shows how those other Engineers died in their hypersleep pods, they were impregnated by somekind of either facehugger, or possibly a trilobite type creature, and eventually chest-bursted. Which means whatever burst out of them, judging by the image there was alteast one, and it was somekind of "Xenomorph"; and i believe it chased those Engineers down that corridor, only the reason why we only see them and not the Xenomorphic creature itself, is because someone deleted part of that holographic footage. Remember when David activates the control panel? He touches this strange, thick gooey substance, presses the substance between his thumb and finger, the camera cuts to a shot real close, showing all the tiny particles in that substance as David seemingly sniffs it. The reason why i go into great detail here to point all these things out, is because that image and all the little things (most people dissmiss and just ignore) we see throughout the movie; like that green crystal-like rock on that plinith underneath the mural of what looks just like the Deacon; All these things make up a rough picture of what that place is purely about and what the Engineers were doing there. And most importantly, that image i shared in the link proves Ridley always intended to have Alien Xenos at the heart of the backstory of the LV-223 outbreak. The idea of David creating the Xenos really erked me for some time after seeing the somewhat disappointing Alien Covenant. But i have since came to the conclusion in my own mind, that David didn't "create" the Xenos period. He merely, replicated or cloned them. David did what John Hammond was able to do in the Jurassic Park film. Only where Hammond's cloned Raptors did'nt have the full DNA sequence coding, that was filled in by his use of frog DNA; which results in Hammond's Raptors having no feathers at all (which scientists do claim actual raptors would have had some feathers on certain areas of their body). David's Xenomorph he clones and is able to "recreate" through use of Shaw's body (more specifically her regenerated womb), bares similiarities to the pure Xeno that originates from the egg of the facehugger from those original Xeno eggs found on the "Derelict ship" in ALIEN. So all David did was essentially re-create the Xenomorphic creature that already existed and originally killed the Space Jockey pilot that was discovered in Alien. Sorry for the eassy lol.

It begs the question though; why would the Engineers keep making reference to a planet as depicted by the various ancient cultures - either of the particular star constellation only or with a tall humanoid pointing to it? Why point out to ancient human cultures, who couldn't possibly go there, the existence of a planet that is essentially a bio-weapons depot/factory? With the depictions of the tall humanoid pointing to it, it does indeed seem like an invitation, not a warning of any kind. Why make humanity aware of such a planet at all when in all likelihood we'd never even know about it, even once we'd become a space-faring people? On the second matter it seems as If David had spent considerable time experimenting to eventually create the Xenomorph because it's not precisely the same. The 'infant' Xeno chest-burster was not the same so it's more likely that he virtually mirrored the process the Engineers used to create Xenomorphs. On a side note it was poor form for the writers of Alien: Covenant to kill Elizabeth Shaw off camera, between films in such a manner. It's possible Noomi wasn't available to reprise the role but they could have re-casted if that was the case. And i also believe the People of the planet in that film were actually some kind of daughter race of the engineers - they seemed more human-sized among other things

@@NerdCookies In the original script, the conversation being translated by David between the Engineer and the humans is much longer, 5 pages of dialog. It is stated that for Engineers, verbal communication takes hundreds of years off of their lives, so they don't speak much. This is why the Engineer looks so drained when talking in the movie. David also controls the conversation by only translating portions of what each party wanted to say to each other, leading Weyland to believe that the Engineer would give him longer life. By limiting what he translated from English to protoindoeuropean, he was also purposefully letting the Engineer's negative opinion of humanity be reinforced. It is also revealed that Jesus was taken to the Engineer's home world as a child to train him to curb humanity's aggressive nature. Here is a video on the script: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-rFjTxnb2l04.html The translation of this scene starts about half way through.

I love this Alien lore content! The engineer exploration in the prequels was pretty interesting and I really enjoyed the story, also how David proved Weyland wrong buy having the imagination to create the perfect hunter using the engineer's xenomorph as a base, that was a great ah ha moment for me! Maybe the engineers created the Predator species also and is now at war with them. So when we started to emerge as another destructive species they wanted to wipe us out for fear of having to fight us in the future! My biggest wish is that Fox takes more thoughtful creative quality control over the Engineers, Alien and Predator lore, maybe create various series that is more cohesive and fills in the gaps from the various movies and brings those three species and us together which could be their answer to the Disney Star Wars and Marvel universe. I just hope they place more of an onus on good story telling than flashy CGI. The interactions between the various species has the potential to be such a rich story; humans, engineers, predators, alien queens and their broods this can't happen soon enough!

Thank you for another well-produced video. As always it was a joy to listen to, and observe. That being said, I feel that, by making Prometheus, Ridley Scott has taken an awful turn down the wrong path and stepped into a pile of something that will irreversibly taint any further movies in the series. In my opinion he should ... just ... make ... it ... stop ... now, before the reputations of 'Alien' and 'Aliens' are forever soured.

As always, nice elucidation. Nice script. Nice video. Unfortunately, considering what you have to work with, you're stuck with a set of materials that has mutated past the point of value. To watch the evolution of the Alien "franchise" is like reading a tale of slow degeneration which will eventually reach a point where it can no longer attract an audience in a process that seems to have already taken place in the case of the Terminator movies, which, despite big budgets, competent actors, and everything a scriptwriter can muster have failed to drag their attraction into the present century. You've done a great job of finding things out about the engineers, even pointing out their relationship to the Swiss Artist, the Late H.R. Geiger, but in the orginal movie, they were a footnote, eye-candy, a never-to-be-solved mystery in a derelict alien spacecraft only actual point was to warn the crew about the consequences of letting anything come aboard their ship with them-something which in the original story would never have happened save for the intercession of the Ship's android science officer-the living embodiment of late Seventies distrust of corporations . The attempt to revive the engineers as characters, as antagonists in the current run of films, is not clever writing: it is just noise, just as David's butchering Elizabeth Shaw and creating the Xenomorphs is just noise, and no amount of CG or contortionist-worthy plot-logic is going to breathe new life or interest into them. At the end of the day, one of the thing that is going to do the most damage to more Alien movies doing anything good at the box office will not be boredom (although that is certainly there) but anger: it will be seeing yet another movie written, acted, and filmed with the idea in mind that the studio knows that its audience is a bunch of intellectually-stunted children who will cough up millions to see literally any brown thing they throw against the wall. Great video, as always, but the core of your material is lost in the confusion that results when the studios refuse to realize that stories end and should end despite their wanting profitable franchises to go on forever.

I don't consider anything after ALIENS as canon (and even ALIENS takes some liberties with the story, especially if you take the deleted "cocoon" scene into account). Ridley Scott did not write the story for ALIEN, and much of the plot and backstory was already in place before he came onboard, so it's not his to toy with. The Space Jockey is clearly intended to be part of a bioengineered spacecraft, and even Dallas remarks that "it looks like it's grown out of the chair" - it doesn't even have legs! Reducing that concept to a spacesuit worn by Space Jesus is borderline heresy to me, and is FAR less interesting than a spacefaring civilization that literally grows its own spacecraft (and by extension, probably a lot of other things as well, possibly even the alien). The whole retconned idea of the engineers is lazy, stupid, and frankly something pulled from the History Channel's absolutely brain-dead "Ancient Aliens" TV show. I'm thankful that I can simply ignore the new movies, and let my imagination fill in where Hollywood failed.

My theory had been that the Alien species had been discovered and maybe genetically manipulated by the Predator species, a very long time ago. Engineers would have been a derivation from a common ancestor of Humanity, manipulated by the Predator species, while Humanity evolved on it's own on Earth. That would explain the similarity between the Predator ships, and the Engineer ships. It would also explain the similarity in the DNA. The Predators motives would involve their religious/ritualistic habit of committing violence upon "lesser" species.

While I don't like any of the sequels I'm a big fan of the idea of the engineers, however they were poorly executed on film with bad writing which is almost unforgivable given how much money Ridley Scott has, to me it just reeks of a cash grab which was a disservice to the fans. I wonder what a criminal profiler would conclude considering the fact that profiling is based on the psychological theory that everything we do say even think says something about our personality and even motives. Keep in mind profiling was developed and formulated specifically because a lot of times the subject, agent, suspect whatever you want to call them ain't going to sit down and talk about mom, dad and whatever so all a psychologist has to work with would just be whatever is found at crime scenes, or in this case the engineers actions and the purpose of the black goo. Perhaps there is a philosophy or religion of theirs that the engineers follow, what they think is the greater good.

Is it possible that 2000 years ago the Predator species discovered humanity and wished to use us for their own ends (the hunts) and the Engineers did not like this (not for our benefit). This would explain the common architecture all primitive humans used as eluded in the A vs P movie. The predators have known of the Xenomorph species as the best hunting prey, meaning they have existed for thousands of years already . This contradicts the theory that David created them since they and a queen was found in Antarctica (2000's) and the Predators were using humans at the time of the period of human pyramid architecture. (est 300 BC) This rules out that David created them since the classic xenomorph was already fully developed and used. As for the Engineers enemy and decline? who knows perhaps the Predators were a client? and some how arranged the creation of the perfect prey for them to hunt and the Engineers delivered them. makes sense to seed a world full of perfect prey and the Predators could hunt them for the most challenging sport. just a thought...

This is why I wish Fox finds some really great writers to cement and clear up all this movie lore into various series like the Disney Star Wars universe. They could make a killing if they continued to combine the Predator and Alien Queen story lines with the now space capable humans in a consistent space opera series of shows and movies. I honestly have to disagree with Ridley Scott’s explanation of why the Engineers would have sought the reset of Earth and the elimination of humanity. Considering their path of development it would have taken the Engineers hundreds of thousands of years to have reached the level they are at now. Ridley Scott’s conclusion suggests that the Engineers lack the one thing that a culture of terraformers and species creationists would absolutely need, patience. I have often thought that what happened was that there was a civil war of ideology that broke out among their kind. On one side you had the ones who want to maintain their legacy, especially the legacy of the Engineers who sacrificed themselves to start the engine of life on various lifeless planets, something which I would imagine would have been considered a great honor among them reserved for only the very greatest of their kind. Then you have the other faction, the ones who like in the conversation between Wayland and his daughter, are the old kings who don’t want to accept their time has come and that they should move on for the new races to have their time. This faction sees themselves as gods, and gods aren’t supposed to die.

The space jockey reformatting in comparison to the original appearance of it in Alien(1979) into what it is now, is just a continuance of social engineering in the western world. When you view many of these high expensive film releases by these major film companies from a 3 dimensional perspective, you begin to see many of the subliminal programming techniques applied over the masses... There are many intricate layers of conditioning tactics used in all forms of entertainment,government and religious worlds. All to confound and manipulate the masses gradually to accept a new reality. What we perceive as the reality outside of our Windows is actually a Matrix. Not in the since of the film of the same title, but in the sense that what we see is contrived manipulation of what we believe is truth. Re-watch the matrix films , remove the sci-fi aspects and apply the themes of it to what all media presents to you on the daily. Entertainment , news , government etc... I will leave you with this thought: Isn't it somewhat suspect that when Trump was POTUS BLM incidents where in the news almost every week. And now that Biden is POTUS crimes against Asians seem to be on the rise hmmmm? I have researched the possible reasons and it all relates to globalism/liberalism/removal of in house patriarchal systems aka fracture a peoples culture in order to steer them under the same umbrella of control, generally through the money. Besides the above unexpected word salad this is another nice video produced from this channel

In my own warped opinion, Prometheus was both a great vision and a terrible disappointment. The film portrayed excellent concepts of technology, the use of science, and various, and often conflicting, personalities aboard the doomed and questing craft. Since Prometheus brought the gift of fire from the gods, but this ship brought nothing but pain and hubris, should it have not been called the Argo, with Weyland playing the role of Jason? What I found more sinister and frightening than any xenomorph was the android, David. Without Aasimov's classic 3 laws, and though handsome, intelligent, and curious, this creature was as destructive as Frankenstein's monster. Scheming, amoral, and willing to use and sacrifice all others around him, David didn't fall far from the apple tree, if we are to judge the motives and nature of his creator. My disappointment comes from the movie's first advertisements, which billed the movie as a profound answer for where life came from. So if we're not unique, and not first... and if the Engineers are first, where did they come from? We've only pushed back the time and place for the origin of life. To me, panspermia is a dull cop-out for the writers, who did brilliant work elsewhere. I'm as equally disappointed that much of the film isn't explained, like there's much of the film that was discarded on the editing room floor.

The biggest error in your narration is concerning the average lifespan of an Engineer, it is not 150 yrs. In the script drafts, written by David Lindelof and confirmed by Ridley Scott, their average lifespan is around 150,000 yrs. and the use of verbal communication actually reduces their lifespan.

OK - flash! The Engineers are Bene Gesserets always messing with the genetic lineage like the rascals they are. This poor Engineer gets woken up by idiots that his crew were supposed to exterminate 2000 years ago. Oh Noooes! So without even a snack and some Earl Grey said Engineer smooshes the visiting idiots and makes preparations to go to Earth. Talk about dedication. Not even a radio shout-out to his commanding officer to see if the Kwizatch Kid has already arrived. Nope. Impressive. I shouldn't have to mention the gender swap the Engineers did a long time ago. Better look for the nuns if you ask me.

Unfortunately, I think that sadly (and mainly down to Ridley Scott's ego and slapdash approach) the Alien franchise is ruined beyond repair.

@@NerdCookies Yes, but according to Alien purists those were not true engineers but a different race.

Are they all male?

An excellent question. As the females (and males) seen on the world in Covenant are not engineers we can't obviously include them either.

The amount of ad breaks you take is a joke. Went from your videos having very few ads about a year ago to now there’s an ad about every two minutes. Not gonna keep watching your channel if this is the way you want to run it. Maybe you should be less greedy........
