Excellent interview, Vic! Fede seems like the absolute best director they could have chosen to tell a new Alien story. My excitement is through the roof.
Huge fan of Alien and Aliens, so I'm really happy to hear he is taking it back to its roots. The suspense and sense of dread was so expertly done in Don't Breathe, that allowing Fede to make a movie in this franchise was a great move. Awesome interview (as always), Vic!
I was 12 when 1979's Alien came out. My dad, who had worked with Ridley Scott in commercials, took me to see it. I had read the novelization, collected all of the Topps cards and it's one of my favorite movies to this day. I'm a fan of Fede's and I really hope this ranks in the top 3 Alien films!
My dad took me as well, hahaha. I was 11 and I sat frozen for the entire movie. I read the novelization as well, sure wish we'd have gotten to see the sequence where Parker sees the alien and tries to blow it out an airlock!
It's very hard to ignore Fede's passion and integrity when talking Alien. If "The Thing" wasn't perhaps the perfect example of why practical is the only way to go then hopefully Romulus will server as another reminder.
As a huge fan of the 1979 original as well as the game alien isolation which I finally am playing through for the first time currently in the upcoming weeks leading up to Alien:Romulus I must say, everything Fede is saying here about bringing it back to a pure horror experience makes me very excited for the film and I already have opening weekend tickets to hopefully go with my dad
Funny im replaying it as well! So good. And there are a lot of similarities. One thing im still not sure of is the premise of a bunch of young people wanting to loot a station. I was hoping for something deeper and this is why isolation worked so well (Ripleys daughter). Im sure it will still be better than Prometheus and Covenant. :)
Fede's awesome; "These kids break into this space station and things go horribly wrong." And there you go. The simple plot to Alien Romulus, direct from Fede himself. Looks great! I'm stoked for this return to Alien horror!
Nice to hear Fede allude to a couple of us ALIENS veterans who he contacted to brainstorm/chat and doodle ideas with in pre-production. His DON'T BREATHE is a masterpiece of tension-filled film making. I'm hoping (for the sake of the franchise as well as for Fede's sake) the film is a major success, both financially as well as artistically. Most of the word so far has been pretty positive.
Seeing this on opening night, as soon as I can. I do NOT watch horror. I don't enjoy genre in general, but the Alien and Aliens movies and the creatures in those movies just tickle a part of my brain. This movie is going to absolutely terrify and break me. I pray I don't go unconscious from the sheer terror induced increased heart rate and breathing. I. Cannot. Wait.
Great interview. Loved hearing the director's take on why he went the way he did with the visual effects and why he placed the movie between Alien and Aliens. The Alien: Isolation game still makes me jump and it's unplayable for me but for some reason I want to see this in theaters.
I like how he called out the franchise for trying to evolving too much (without really calling it out) and he is the one bringing it back to the basics, something Ridley, the OG director, failed to do. A fan who grew up with the franchise and understood the material and now makes a film for fans. Things have come full circle.
For me this was a big reason that Covenent was such a dud. The Xeno looked so fake. The tiny little mini-me alien chestburster in that movie invoked laughter instead of fear. The only creature that was remotely interesting in that movie was the neomorph, mostly because it was a new concept.
Fede is awesome! I recently watched the entire Alien film series for the first time and I love the first two so I'm excited to see this one since it seems like a combination of those 2. This basically seems like Don't Breathe but in the alien universe
I really wish someone would ask Fede what he thinks of the original Derelict ship and the OG Space Jockey design and that whole idea of a race transporting the eggs.
>take it back to the purity of the original but not just tell the same story Finally. This sold me on this film. I like alien as a horror film, it just went too crazy after Alien 3 IMO. This is great news for me.
Just an objective, obvious compliment,Fede is a handsome man with a kind, thoughtful face:)Been noticing that as he rolls his Hit Movie out:)....Stay Frosty,Fede🌲☄🌲
Big fan of Alien 1. I thought Prometheus and Covenant were both interesting and I want to know what's next. This movie being a return to the origin seems pretty good through. I may have to catch it on theatre
If Fede can get anywhere close to the first 2 Alien movies I think it can be Iconic and reinvigorate the Xenomorph. Make it scary and intense edge of you're seat kind of movie
I was quite disappointed they went with 'a young group of friends' as the cast. It's the troupe of every slasher film pretty much. What makes a film scary isn't that a group of characters really cares about each other - it's when the audience cares about the characters. We don't need the characters to be ignorant at this point, most people are more familiar with Alien so it serves little purpose. The terrifying aspect of the first film is that most characters in that movie made intelligent decisions even if they were 'truckers in space'. The scary part of the second film was that with all the high powered weapons and advanced training, it also didn't matter.
If he tries to take me through a journey of not knowing what the aliens is or what it does. Like the oblivious crew in this film. Then i won't be watching it to the end. I actually feel sorry for these directors who are still trying to flog Alien as new 😆 The amount of media content on Alien is crazy. This film is going to treat the audience like the have no idea about the Aliens 😂 That's the dilemma these directors now face
I saw the last trailer at theaters. It looks terrible and the characters well it will make up for the missing woke pieces critics were crying about in Deadpool Wolverine.
What a shocking Revelation : Spoiler : RIPLEY´s Hybernation Pod found inside Romulus SPACE STATION . 57 years was a lie . They found long before the events in ALIENS. Lobotomized her and made up a story so she could live her life on Earth as an ordinary human.
