Hold your pulse rifle and motion tracker ready, because Alien: Romulus is now in theaters. The newest entry in the long-running sci-fi horror franchise comes from director Fede Álvarez, best known for 2013’s Evil Dead remake and the original horror film Don’t Breathe. The acclaimed director takes the Alien series back to its roots by calling back to the 1979 original with another nail-biting, blood-soaked, haunted house in space. However, the new movie also left us with some serious questions, which we’ll try our best to answer here.

When the xeno strikes Tyler with its tail it whips hims about knocking Andy down causing him to spaz out. It was very quick. They should have shown it clearer as it’s a major plot point.

RU-vid are flooded with fake videos more than ever. There is even fake funeral videos for people who are still alive... Then there is fake staged animal rescues, fake restoration videos etc. Then there is fact videos where half of the facts are wrong. It means the company reversed engineered the black goo from big chap. Then used current technology to print their own facehuggers. Inside the Remus lab, They were already printed but under cyro stasis. When they stole the fuel, lockdown started and the facehuggers started thawing out. Later in the movie, we see more of black goo being harvested from facehuggers inside the Romulus lab.

The alien was around before the engineers were. This is referenced by the mural seen in Promemtheus showing a very alien like being with outstretched arms almost like a da Vinci painting. This is the scene with the vases and big head. There is even facehuggers depicted in that mural. The engineers worshipped this being as they themselves had lost the ability to reproduce, and thus studied and used its blood to both create life and destroy it. The alien seen at the end of Prometheus, the ‘Deacon’, closely resembles the alien depicted in the mural. David did not create but rather tried to perfect the Alien. Hence the slightly different version seen in Covenant. This one is born without the chestburster stage but is a fully formed alien. This alien was too aggressive and not deemed the perfect organism …yet. The alien life cycle stage is governed by the needs of the hive. Therefore some chestburster stages happen quicker than others. Any alien can create eggs or ovomorph a captured host if the need is there. This is seen in the deleted scene in Alien with the captured Dallas and Brett. The black goo in Romulus has been reversed engineered by the scientists on that station and is probably not 100 percent the same as the original hence you could explain the differences between the Prometheus goo and the Romulus goo.

@@chriswelter3859Kroft talks movies is incredible insightful for all things aliens , and on his RU-vid channel he goes through the deleted screenplay from Prometheus which includes the full dialogue between the Engineer and David. As to other sources the Alien rpg from Free League under licence from 20th Century Fox has a tremendous amount of lore. Dark horse comics. Ridley Scott himself confirming that the beings wiped out by David are not in fact the engineers. Rather a seeded planet in their image. The engineers favoured them. Hence why they all came out when the juggernaut arrived - their gods had returned , only to be deceived and killed by David. The alien in the mural can easily be seen , the facehuggers less so. You will need a still frame to see them as if you blink you will miss them. Just google facehuggers mural Prometheus and you will find lots of images.

How did the Alien from the original get into a cocoon? They said they found it in the wreckage of the Nostomo, wasn't the Nostomo vaporized? And besides, the original alien was floating in space, not in wreckage.

⁠⁠@@Theonetruewonderflyit’s 100% the original xenomorph from Alien. If you watch the movie, Rook makes it very clear it’s the same one. It wasn’t found IN the wreckage. It was found floating in space near the wreckage. How it formed a cocoon around itself is never explained.

A potential explanation for #3 is that the company knew that the vessel was infected and intentionally set it on course to be destroyed. They also likely knew that the black goo they harvested was deadly and did not serve its intended purpose, which Rook was not aware of because 1) he had been decommissioned (by circumstances) by the time this had been discovered and 2) he was not in the lab at the time he was revived.

My interpretation was that the whole story about the black goo being a helpful tool for humanity was a lie by Rook. It was always a bioweapon, as established in Prometheus, that the company desperately wanted to study further. And so Rook's prime directive was to get it off the station before it was destroyed. But if he asked Rain and co to take a deadly bioweapon to Jackson Star and to the company for him, they wouldn't take that well 😂 So he lied and said it was to help mankind. He needed them with their ship, especially since he'd lost half his body. That's my interpretation anyway.

Others have already explained the glitching, so I’ll explain two other points: 1.) The reason the aliens didn’t attack them when the moment they got on the ship was because the station is broken into 2 parts (Romulus AND Remus) probably for safety. Andy leads them to a gondola where they travel to the other half where they then encounter the hive of mature xenomorphs. 2.) The ooze that Rook developed was derived from the original ooze but it was more advanced which is why he wants it delivered to Waylon Yutani. David also experiments and modifies ooze in the Alien Covenant. Ooze is basically an agent that causes rapid mutation/evolution, integrating the host’s DNA when it enters the body.

In Alien isolation, it was revealed that years after the events of Alien, the crew of Anesidora picked up the beacon, landed on LV-426 to investigate, found the derelict, and shut off the beacon to prevent anyone from finding the ship. The derelict remained untouched until the events of Aliens when Ripley told the WY about it.

They explained that the black liquid in Romulus is scientifically modified, so yes, it's a different "type" of black mutagen. It was explained that it's because humans aren't made for space, so they intended to make beings that were.

It’s odd how many reviews I’ve seen question the scene with Andy glitching as if they completely missed the xenomorph tail knock him over. They said in the movie the ship belongs to his uncle who passed away. It’s a mining ship, They can obviously fly around the planet to mine transfer minerals, or scavenge parts but they know they can’t leave without cryo pods.

The Xenomorph group was on the other side of the station, and near the hangar. The group were initially attacked by the facehuggers in the lab where they landed. For all we know, the xenomorphs communicate only within close proximity, they probably do deep sleep to sounds of machinery and alarms until the crash and the group was closer to them.

The whole station is a secure Weyland yutani facility. It was lockdowned until they came aboard with Andy. Then needed science officer clearance to bypass the lockdown in the Remus lab. They were opening doors along the way. I'm guessing the hive was sectioned off and lockdowned because of the infestation in the Romulus lab.

Using Ian Holm wasn't a cheap nostalgia play; it was actually relevant to have Rook look like Ash because that's the model that was around in the timeframe of the original movie. If they used David (Michael Fassbebder) like you suggested, that would have made far less sense since that was further in the past.

If that’s the model that was widely used in that timeframe then surely they wouldn’t have placed him on the ship of the Nostromo. In face Alien they’re shocked he’s a robot. Because he’s an agent, he’s not meant to be known as a robot. There’s nothing to say that at the time of Alien Romulus there weren’t other android models around as well. It would’ve been a lot less convoluted if they had just created their own, original robot character instead.

That's because he was made in the Alien movie timeframe and was new so nobody knew about him. By the time of Romulus, a lot of time had passed and many more had been manufactured and known by then.

It’s because the mutagen came from LV-223, a “sister” moon of LV-426. While the Company was extracting the mutagen from facehuggers, it was the only way they could get it since the leads to the location of the mutagen (by now) were dead or lost to time (David’s location unknown after Covenant). And 5 years earlier, the crew of the Anesidora had shut the distress beacon in the Derelict off, giving the Company no way of locating the Derelict unless they scanned the planetoid. And the Xenomorph they recovered is somehow the same as the original. My guess is that it managed to wreak its havoc, corner one crew member and repeat the egg morphing process until it had a few more drones to keep the process going until one turned into a Queen, or the one egg that was created, was a Queen egg (a twist on Isolation since there was a queen aboard the Sevestapol deep within the reactor core).

romulus wasnt made/built after aliens. they probably didnt go to LV426 because Alien Romulus is set not just 20 years after the first movie but also 5 Years AFTER Alien: Isolation and theres a flashback sequence where you play as the anesadorias captain 'Marlo' and he disables the Derelicts beacon, turning off the signal that the nostromo picked up. So the short answer is basically: the beacon was turned off on the derelict, WY couldnt find out where the ship was to go and gather specimens.

My theory: There's a mural depicting a Xenomorph in the Engineer temple, what if they too were harvesting Xenomorph DNA which explains why everything the black goo touches eventually makes a Xenomorph

The reason why Weyland-Yutani dosen't appear to notice the space station is most likely because they don't have an HQ on Jackson's Star. Jackson's Star is a terraforming colony just like Hadley's hope and mostly consists of regular people. So the company might have sent a rescue team from one of their HQs on another planet. By the time they arrive the station has been destroyed. They sure as hell wouldn't allow any of the colonists aboard their station.

The xenomorphs didnt appear until later because they were hibernating and were awoken when Rain, Andy and Tyler entered the hive and tripped the atmospheric trigger (the blue light) which is the same way the eggs suddenly hatch in the original Alien after years of hibernating. This whole video is so embarassing. Minimal thought put into a very well thought out film.

The reason they didnt go back to the derelict is theoretically, that they didnt know precisely where it was. Just that it was transmitting from LV426. After the nostromo was lost they didnt have the black box (its in the shuttle), and the derelict stopped transmitting it's location thanks to the events of Alien Isolation. Before isolation the inability to find it was explained in Aliens as due to some form of major volcanic ability which has visibly damaged the derelict significantly. So they set up a colony on LV426 and told them to Survey the planet. Unfortunately that is all a little scuffed by Romulus. The fact they easily find the Nostromo wreckage, but not the Narcissus (Yes out of the shadows makes that even more 'meh' as the ash aboard is capable of contacting WY and all but thats the book/audio-drama issues rather than Romulus) is just weird.

last question is really easy. The company don't know that the pilot ship is on lv426 at that time. Romulus takes place between alien and aliens2. The movie is not perfect, and some of the criticism in the video is warranted, but at least fact check before putting out content that is factually wrong and could have been checked in less than 2 minutes. Alien 2122 Romulus is 2142 Aliens2 where the company learns about the ship on LV426 is 2179

It isn't a problem for the company that they have access to spaceships, because without cryopods, where are they actually going to go? They need to eat, and for that they need to work for the company. This is pretty implicit in the conversations they have in the movie. It's the same reason we all go to work every day even though we have unfettered access to our cars. It makes perfect sense.

My theory is that as Rook says, xenomorphs are tough to kill and can survive even in the vacuum of space. Perhaps it has some sort of defense mechanism that if injured but still alive, it can cocoon itself into the same stuff they used to make those nests and the birthing cocoons, and while in there it can reform lost limbs and heal from physical damage.

In the movie they state that the xenomorph can slow or quicken its metabolism-which is how they go from chestburster to full adult by the midpoint of the film-we see these stages as the alien entering a cocoon like state. therefore it can be inferred that the xenomorph recovered in the wreckage in the beginning was in such a state, creating a protective cocoon to keep it safe in space.

There aren't multiple Xenos before the crew gets there. They're born after the face huggers are relased from hybernation. When the xeno kills the first two crewmembers, it takes them to get hosted, along with all of the other memeber of the original Romulus crew. Either movies take the time to expalin every little detail, which people hate, or don't, which people also hate.

Andy... was... attacked... at the beginning of the film... when they were on the surface and glitched then. When he took a hit in that hallway scene, the same 'seizure-like' glitch occurred. He was a salvaged android, as was established in the dialogue when Kay talked about her father repurposing Andy. He's clearly a bit buggy. Had nothing to do with the stasis light.

The first two acts of Romulus were fine, but the third act featured way too many callbacks to previous movies in the franchise. The hybrid didn't work in Resurrection so it's weird that they did the exact same thing again in Romulus, and for once I'd like an ending where they try something original instead of just blasting the creature out into space yet again.

It's implied since the firs movie that the xenomorph is engineered as the perfect organism to infiltrate in spaceships and has some sort of fundamental directive to survive and spread its offsprings trough the universe like a biological panspermic device, or even like a parasitic Neumann probe. Only when it finds a planet with a host species to colonize, a queen is born, which lays the eggs of a more hive-like, terrestrial xenomorph like those seen on Aliens

About the Question that there's no Queen on the Renaissance, its answered in the movie, they used reverse engineering on the alien and even on the movie its shown they printed the facehuggers, thats why there are no eggs, like on now a days can print organs, other videos in RU-vid have the same answer.

The alien wasn't stuck in a "chunk of ore". After it got ejected from the ship, it secreted resin to protect itself. Same stuff they construct their hives from.

Yes it’s the same alien from the first movie and it had encased itself in the cocoon. It was clearly shown to be the same one by the harpoon stuck through it. Come on… so many moments of this video tell me you shouldn’t be putting out an “explained” video when you’ve barely watched the movie yourself.

The Xenomorph from the first movie used the resin that it drools to create a hardened cocoon around itself. Weyland-Yutani used this specimen to reverse engineer facehuggers, which they cloned/printed (and froze). Ultimately, they were able to reverse engineer something like the black goo from Prometheus (possibly even including some sacrificial Engineer DNA), using it to produce the compound that the pregnant woman injects. This compound was created by W-Y to develop their ideal humanoid worker, and that’s apparently what becomes of her developing embryo.

@IGN Andy's malfunction was covered earlier in the movie, when the group of kids were beating him up, when Rain was being told she couldn't leave after completing her working hours. Andy was laying immobilized on the ground from being hit and needed to be reset. This is the same thing that happened later in the movie near the elevator with the blue fog in the Alien hive, after being hit by the Xenomorph's tail.

The aliens don't attack en masse at the beginning because they are learning about their new threat. This is the behaviour that we see with the Xenomorphs in Aliens; They don't attack the Colonnial Marines immediately, only when they witness the threat of the flame thrower. It's also a lot better for their life cycle that the facehuggers do their job, with as minimal damage to the potential hosts as possible. Again, that is explained in this film, where one of the characters doesn't get impregnated. The aliens need people alive and well. Attacking them seems to be the very last option.

They did not attack at the beginning of aliens ibecause they did not know ripley and the marines were there. They did not become aware of the marines presence untill the marines literally walked into their hive.

@@LanceyKersti yes, the Marines waked right into the middle of Alien Town completed unchallenged - until the flame thrower was used, where they literally came out of the walls right next to them. They even targeted those with the flame units first (Diedrich, Wierzbowski, and Apone). You could say that was a coincidence, but we are constantly shown just how intelligent these creatures are in this universe. They recognise, and act upon, threat and move strategically.

This movie happens before Aliens, so the company doesn't know of the ship in LV-426 yet, they only found it in Aliens with the information Ripley gave to them in the interrogation in Aliens. The real question is, where did all those face huggers come from? As they only had that one alien drone from the original movie to work with.

There were two parts of the station, Romulus and Remus. The aliens were living in Romulus. It's very possible that the aliens didn't notice the crew until they started poking around where they were living. And it also did look like they were living in the depths of that side of the station.

Most of the Questions are answered in the Movie, except for a few like the sensor in the Pulse Rifle and the Magazine in it. In the Aliens movie the mag carries 40-60 bullets, and in this movie carries more? Military uses less ammo?

Half of these questions or plots holes are easily explained by the fact that in every movie in this serious its made very clear space travel takes decades and is expensive as hell. Hence the mutagen from Romulus is more expedient than waiting 20+ years to charter a mission to lv 426 and why they don't care that these character have a ship.
