I’ve been waiting so long for this

I've been getting back into this song in a big way of late. It sounds amazing in Maori, which sounds like a very guttural and percussive language, and would make a great language for death metal growls. That breakdown is just astounding, and I agree, the actual music video is well worth your time. I like how you two break down songs and are Christian without being judgmental, which as someone rekindling faith on this end is appreciated , because it seems to me that there are far too many Christians out there using certain Scriptures to justify being hateful and judgmental and conveniently forget about Matthew 7:1's words of wisdom. Something that I'm working on improving at, I admit, and it bothers me to see that. But it makes me happy to see that y'all are avoiding that, and bless you for it.

As well as the official music videos, you should check out the mini series put out on RU-vid by RNZ (Radio NZ) following them on their first European tour. Its about 10 parts in little 5-10 min chunks, and really gives a cool perspective on the boys from a band and family perspective.

Mataora is a mythical figure that traveled to the underworld and brought back the knowledge of tattooing. The traditional tool used to do the tattooing is known as a Uhi which is a tattooing chisel. Thus they were known as the Te Uhi Mataora (the chisel of Mataora). As others have pointed out this line in the song and every proceeding line in the chorus is about the tattoos covering a Maori warrior, which have great cultural and spiritual importance.

In my opinion this is one of the most important metal bands right now.

The video is a MUST here, honestly. The kids are amazing, and they have proven that, being signed to a massive label at the age of like 15 years old. It's refreshing to hear such young talent that's actually willing to innovate and do their own thing.

Te Reo Maori is the language. Kia Kaha means Stay Strong. Currently The drummer just turned 19 The bassist turned 17 and the guitarist will turn 17

Actually when they first hit the scene they were 15 yrs old. The video is amazing. Actually all their videos are top class.

Check out “Ru Ana Te Whenua”, so freaking good. They have some songs in English too, but those in Maori just sound so amazing.

Total fail on not doing the video for this one. These guys (kids really) are all very young and are Maori (the native people of New Zealand). Some of their songs even feature lyrics in Maori.. There's a very cute reaction trade off from this band and the ladies in Nervosa. Where they reacted to this video and then the guys in Alien Weaponry reacted to a Nervosa song. Very cool thrash/folk metal band these guys, glad you did them. And especially considering what happened in New Zealand. This one was in several XU polls but never won (Thrash and Folk respectively). And I've seen it requested alot. So glad to see it done. Oh the old school norse one you are talking about is Windir. I agree about hearing those native languages. It just has more impact.

I got to gig with these young lads in our north island, very cool guys, their dad has to be mentioned as he is instrumental is the success they are experiencing, all around good guys and deserve all the goods.

Kai Tangata (Kai - like 'die but with a 'k', 'tang' - like tongue - 'a' like 'uh'- 'ta' like 'tah'. tongue uh tah. Spiral buttocks refers to the tattoo or 'moko', cool to see NZ represented.

You didn't do the video. You need to do the Video. They are from New Zealand - and I told you to check it out AAAAAAAGES ago. Interesting fact -Tumatauenga is the name of the Maori war-god, and the Maori name for the NZ Army is Ngati Tumatauenga = Tribe of the War-God. The chorus is a reference to the various Tattoos that a Warrior gets - when you do this again, properly, by watching the video (Hint Hint) - it makes more sense.

And also the wedding Haka you're talking about the white groom is also of Maori decent not someone being "initiated" or whatever

Katatonia - Old heart falls Swedish band. You will love it- I promise. Early records are pure black/Death metal. Now it's more gothic doom death something metal, with only clean vocals. My absolute favourite band at the moment. Cool that you play a lot of Norwegian band, and bands like Emperor, Ihsahn and Leprous from my home town Notodden. One artist from Notodden you should check out is Mortiis. Ex. EMPEROR.

Island peoples have almost always been warriors - those who weren't are extinct. Alien Weaponry are a unique trio in a generic world, and they cover a lot of ground - I hope they stick together and stay interesting! They still are young men. Their live sound is not disappointing.

The Maori people found beauty in tattoos, especially their leader and warrior class (one in the same, really). The buttocks spirals are the traditional designs on the butt, and like other tattoos each successive sleeve is unique to the owner. This entire song is basically a Maori Haka in metal.

Saw these guys just over a week ago... Incredible energy on stage.

Check out New Zealand band Shihad's first album, Churn which came out in the early 90's. Alien Weaponry have a very similar sound to a lot of the songs. The drummer from Shihad produced Alien Weaponry's album, which may be why.

When Hanson and Sepultura collide.....

Not a New Zealander by any stretch but I know a little bit because my ex studied a lot of cultures.Tūmatauenga is indeed the god of war. Tū had many titles, matauenga means "of the angry face". Tū is also the god of food - which is where a lot of the references in this song come from. In Māori culture food is linked closely to violence (Tū's descendants are humans, his brothers' descendants are birds, fish, animals, and plants) so hunting and war have many parallels. I don't think this song is about hunting though because the lyrics directly reference war, they were cannibalistic people, and if they were talking about hunting they probably would have went with Tū instead of Tūmatauenga though I could see going either way since Tūmatauenga also implies he already went to war with his brothers. #WebbWeek
