@@DBZking119 Thanks. I'm stuck at home for two weeks, unless I get tested on Monday and it comes back clean. I'm more worried about my family: I got it from my mom, who likely gave it to my dad, and she got it from my aunt- who already has cancer.
@@DariusFrench6273 Plan is to self-quarantine at my house for two weeks. I can get tested Monday to find out for sure- any earlier and I may get a false negative. Luckily I can still work from home. I think I'll be fine if it turns out that I am sick.

That line is making me picture DoomSlayer retraining marines to be as fast as him so that they'll have a chance at surviving against demons and other threats. Also it's funny to picture him forcing soldiers to run faster with his silent stare being more intimidating then someone yelling at them.
Aliens: Colonial Marines suffered the same fate as other games like Batman: Dark Tomorrow and Sonic '06. It had potential to be good, but all that went to waste in the end.
Yeah! I actually requested that in the preview comments when he was teasing this review. Plus, using Flock of Seagulls for characters running into walls is a running joke in this show.
I really like the way you describe Ridley Scott’s “death grip” on the franchise and his “navel-gazing about how creationism is somehow the meaning of life.” I couldn’t agree more. Personally I don’t think the Assembly Cut of Alien 3 should be dismissed so easily though. It’s not perfect, but I still find it immensely enjoyable; it feels a lot more like a David Fincher film, which can’t really be a bad thing. I was never really bothered about the fact that it killed off Hicks, Newt and Bishop. This is not a series with happy endings and people seem to forget that no one except Ripley survived the first film; and personally I liked those characters more. But I also prefer the first film to the second.
Add Todd Howard and Bethesda’s *IT JUST WORKS* mantra and you have the holy trinity of terrible video game development. The exact same trinity that caused the video game crash of 1985.
Imagine being so uncaring that not only do you ship the game with an easily fixable typo that breaks the AI, but when you get called out on it you flat-out refuse to fix it. It's one thing being an incompetent developer but when your only excuse boils down to "don't care, don't want to" then those are the last people you want to buy games from. As if being spearheaded by Randy Pitchford wasn't enough reason to stay away from them.
The problem with accuracy is that there is actually nothing wrong with the hit detections. The problem is that your weapons move around a little when you iron site. But the bullets apparently come from the players center view point not the gun. Which mean just putting a red dot in the center of your TV will result in more accurate shots. So it’s still a broken system.
I miss when Gearbox made Brothers in Arms as those were actually good. There's rumors of them making one this year, and it's Modern Gearbox so I'm worried.

About those two other studios credited on the game: Demiurge Studios and Nerve Software are mentioned on the game's Wikipedia page as having worked on multiplayer stuff. Demiurge seems to do lots of outsource work for other game companies, and they worked on an initial prototype of the game before helping with the final game's multiplayer and networking. Nerve Software is mainly known for their various ports of old FPS games. Doom and Duke Nukem, in particular. They also do lots of outsource development work. They were behind the multiplayer maps for Colonial Marines.
Atleast one good thing came out of this game: all video games being required to have a text area in trailers saying: pre-rendered footage, not actual gameplay. edit: Except for Mobile games since no one really cares about that category of games for being too scummy. I do know there are some good games but they are the diamonds in the rough.
Hey Jadow! Just wanted to let you that that the Nintendo DS version of the game, titled Alien: Infestation, is actually a pretty solid Metroidvania game! As someone who doesn't play Metroidvanias that often, I have to say I really enjoyed it, and considering how you love the genre, I think you would too! Also, best of luck to you dealing with COVID right now.
I remember reading about this on Game Informer. Hyping up as the next big thing... Several years later, the final product got a 4 out of 10 from said magazine.
Looking at games like Watchdogs, Death Stranding, Anthem, Cyberpunk, etc, it's clear that no one learned anything from Colonials Marines. We still get artificially overhyped games with either dishonest or ambiguous marketing that then turn out to be total crap.

Rnady wasn't wrong tho. It did break every concievable thing within the horror genre. I would say "Genre-Breaking" is pretty apt... though maybe not in the way Pitchford intended.
I just did some research on Timegate Studios, and they worked on two expansion packs for the F.E.A.R. series, and a game called Section 8. They unfortunately shut down in 2013. Tbh it feels like they should've been the ones working on Colonial Marines, not Gearbox. They were pretty much fucked from the start cuz Gearbox just kinda took them and went "make gam 4 us pls" while mommy Sega and daddy Gearbox argued in the other room. And apparently this was WHILE Timegate were developing a sequel to their own sci-fi shooter series with Section 8: Prejudice.
Randy Pitchford in a interview after the game came out. He said it's a 7 out of 10 and doesn't say Jim Sterling's name because... Clout I guess. The funny thing is Jim Sterling did an interview with Randy Pitchford for the release of Duke Nukem Forever in 2012. So yeah Randy knows who he is yet decided to not say his name.

I mentioned this on one of RadBrad's videos of the game, and someone said this was a fact mentioned in one of the books. Don't know which one, I decided that trying to research something that explains why a character that I don't care about died wasn't worth the effort.
@@MechaKaiser What was a fact? The placenta thing? If that's it then how come in Aliens: Labyrinth, Dr. Church removes a chestburster with no ill side effects and lives to tell the tale for years? Not to mention said chestburster was actually dead and rotting, so if the placenta thing was real then he should have been dead from having decaying tissue inside of him.
@@DinoDave150 I went to look it up out of curiosity after commenting, apparently it's mentioned in Aliens. Vol. 2 #11, a comic book/magazine released by Dark Horse back in 1992. Not sure if its canon to the franchise, though. Having a hard time trying to find out if it is.
Sending in Marines blindly and hoping everything gets better on its own was mostly the official policy position during the Vietnam war. Also, I'm almost sure that most of the work wasn't done by Gearbox. They do not collaborate very well.
2:45 I think the disconnect is with later action movies making the military be the coolest things around people thought the Colonial Marines should be the same. edit: not to mention that the mindset of, 'if it's the future then it must be way more effective then what it is compared to present day tech.'

Little fun fact, while the game that released might not have any relation to it, a game under the name of Aliens: Colonial Marines was actually meant to release as far back as 2001. In fact, a negative review of the PS1 game based on Alien Resurrection openly recommended waiting for this version of Colonial Marines. The big crime this reviewer thought Resurrection PS1 committed? Having a twin stick control scheme that would up becoming the standard for FPS games only a year or two later.
The development of this game made me not want to support gearbox. The lying, fake demos, redistributing budget, and that one AI mishap just makes me not want to support this group with my money.

I was actually going to review AvP 2010 and Classic 2000 when The Predator came out... then The Predator pissed me the fuck off and I wasn't in the mood anymore.
Also I think the Colonial Marines's popularity came mostly from the actors portrayals of the characters, from the sarge's love of the corps to vazquez's rough and tumble attitude, hudson's sardonic attitude, hicks showing the ability to command along with ripley and a few more I'm forgetting.
Also 2 fun facts there's an alien resurrection game for the ps1 which has the stick layout of every modern shooter ever (left moves and strafes while right moves the camera) and it was planned for it and it was recommended to wait for.... sega's Aliens colonial marines (since they had the license) and there's a good chance randy (the greasy bastard) can never set foot in japan because he stole money from sega and and there's a good chance some of the higher ups are Yakuza, no I'm not kidding so if he ever goes there he ain't coming back in one piece.
It's sad that this game only the bog standard Xenomorph enemies since the Alien Vs Predator games actually come up with a wide variety of the bugs. Maybe if this game's development weren't such a crapshoot and it weren't trying to tie into the movies it would have done something creative. But I can't help but feel Sega following the trends would mean that even if we had no marines as enemies we would still see gun toting Xenomorphs. Well at least that would give us something else to laugh at.
There are more Xenomorph types in the multiplayer- a Boiler that explodes to insta-kill enemies and a bull that you fight as a mini-boss one per campaign; but not so much the main gameplay. Funny you mention it: I remember the Alien Versus Predator Classic 2000 has some cyborg aliens that actually do shoot.

I haven't seen Angry Joe for a long time though (back when spoony and channel awesome and such were all together but even then just casually) so I might have seen it or not. I remember when I first heard about this game. I thought it was dope. I wanted to play it. Then I watched the Angry Joe Review. And that pretty much cemented the fact that I should stay far away from this game as possible.
I think at this point I just want a game crossover of Alien vs Predator vs Terminator. Not based on the comic series of the same name necessarily, I just think there’s a game to be made with this idea.
Oh God! That section with the power loader is pure bullshit on the highest difficulty (Ultimate Badass if I recall correctly). The reason why this is bad is Friendly Fire is ON! Your allies will shoot through you to hit enemies. Including, what felt like to me due to where they were firing and how consistent that they killed me, the boss! You know, the one IMMUNE to gunfire! Just to note, I have the 360 version and I haven't played it in a long time.
Why would they refuse to fix the tether bug? Wouldn't they just need to recompile the EXE? And for that matter wouldn't it just require a fan made crack/patch?
There is a fan patch on the PC, but there's no patching the console versions. I'm guessing the AI wasn't fixed because on the PS3/Xbox 360 there was a fine to issue a patch. Maybe Gearbox didn't want to pay the fine and didn't want to only patch one version of the game; maybe they just didn't feel like digging stuff out for the game that was 5 years old by the time the bug was found.
Hate to be that guy but the colony wasn't built near a hive, it was built a short distance from the donut ship from the first movie. Which only had dormant Facehugger eggs.
I remember when I played this years ago on the Xbox 360. They added in extra constantly spawning smaller Xenos to that Powerloader fight with an after launch patch, when before it was just the boss alone. So it became almost impossible to beat it on hard. I ended up having to delete all patches and play offline in order to beat that fight on hard. Not a good game, but at the same time, I've played worse. Also, I seem to recall, the derelict ship from the first movie as it appears in the game, for some reason the alien pilot is missing the hole from the chestburster it obviously had in the movie. Seems like a pretty odd piece of continuity they missed, as it's a pretty big plot point from the first movie. Maybe I'm wrong though, I kinda see a hole there I guess? 19:35 I want to say it was much bigger in the movie.

I was surely one of those people that felt lied to after seeing E3's trailer and that CGI launch trailer. GLAD though I saw the reviews and vids of it and saved myself from buying it.
Yeah that fan look of the Colonial marines is weird They were desinged to be Dumbasses, yet the fanbase sees them as Badasses for some weird ass reason. Hell, to my understanding they haven't shown up in another Aliens movie. Their not in 3, I'm pretty sure Resurrection has a PMC for the mooks and Prometheus and Covenant take place in the distant past on lone colony or research ships
At least borderlands 2 turned out to be great..... yeah not much to say about aliens colonial marines that haven't been said, just play borderlands 2 instead
Funny how this was marketed to be canon to the movies, even though the movies themselves have become a continuity clusterfuck after Alien 3 came out. Either way, this game is overhyped garbage that isn't even bad enough to get a reaction out of me. Seriously, even the generic FPS games of the mid 2000's had something that caught my eye. And a freaking Aliens game can't even hold my attention.
The Alien series is a lot like Terminator in that the first two instalments are the only ones that people care about and just ignore everything after it. Also, it would seem that Alien: Isolation exists to be one giant apology for Colonial Marines.
@@DinoDave150 Admittedly, while the Terminator has devolved into an incoherent mess, there's at least a handful of passable action sequences. Even still, there has been much better action since then. And Terminator: Resistance could be summed up the same way as Alien: Isolation.
@@veronicasilk8429 I will say that I'd rather watch any of the weaker Terminator sequels than I would the weaker Alien sequels. i.e. I would sooner watch Terminator 3 than Alien 3. I'd sooner watch Terminator Salvation than Alien: Resurrection, etc. Also, what a complete 180 Teyon and Reef Entertainment did with Terminator Resistance! Hard to believe the same people who made the infamous Rambo game made a pretty solid Terminator game. They even made a free DLC where you play as an infiltrator!... for PC and next-gen consoles anyway.
@@DinoDave150 True, because at least Terminator 3 had that truck chase. And yeah, Terminator: Resistance was a pleasant surprise, especially given the infamous pedigree of the developers.
@@mattc2306 3 also had the bathroom fight. That's the sort of middle ground fight you don't see much these days. The combatants aren't just hitting each other or throwing each other through buildings and leveling an entire city, they're just smashing apart everything in sight as they try to take each other down while limiting it to a room or two.
I'm going to assume the dogshit framerate is something only caused by the youtube processing or something, because i don't understand how no one mentions it when this game looks fucking unplayable with this kind of framerate.
Well every time I complain about the framerate on a PC game I just get dogpiled by people accusing me of playing it on a potato and then acting surprised when it barely works. Even if it's an indie shovelware game that clearly does not have the excuse of being technologically advanced.

I am into the Ace Combat series, but if I want to play a good military shooter, I would play Spec Ops: The Line or Vanquish. Both have awesome stories, voice acting, and settings. I would never play this junk.

@@Darklordjadow1 I feel like most fans do. But to be fair, I dropped off trying the series when I got stuck in Prime 1, then returned 5 years later and beat the game with 1 death. So now I actually like the series.
