Aliens… what do you guys think? Upon editing and the comments Mrs O realized she took the movie at face value and once she realized it wasn’t a movie to take that way, she changes her score to a 7. Also hit us with some Signs fun facts we love them! Please suggest more alien movies! Thanks for watching! www.patreon.com/theoctobers ❤

there is no proof at all there's any sapient life anywhere in the universe, presently or anytime in the past, except for humans. We are 100% unique according to all evidence. now, if you want to ignore all historical evidence and patterns and instead believe in something that has absolutely zero reliable evidence, then sure, but this is no different than ignoring a million pieces of evidence for a story a stranger just concocted 24 hours ago. UFOs were never about aliens. They were about watching for unknown advanced technology by rival countries. But thanks to the mor0ns who will believe in any grainy video or any drone with christmas lights on it, the government has the next easiest thing to weaponize to manipulate the masses into hysterics. Will work better than the inquisition and imaginary witches and has no more evidence than the flying evil ladies with three nipples. But yes, the superior species of creatures with supreme intelligence and advanced technology has traveled millions of light years to finally get to our planet and discover another rock inhabited with robust life (AND sapient life, the rarest of the rare)... and they decide to play hide and seek and peek-a-boo for a century or centuries. nothing else. This is the highest goal alien life can aspire to. Yup, totally believable, much more believable than the worse humans in history in positions of power in our government are using the gullibility and fears of the weakest willed people to create hysteria and manipulate the masses. nonethless, a great movie. a fictional movie with a great message. it could've been better, but it didn't want to distract from the message and focused well on what was important.

The director of the movie said he inspired himself of an old trauma he had when he was a kid. He said that one day he and his family came back from a trip to the mall and they found their front door open. His father went to check the house, but he found nothing wrong. Later his father told him that he was expecting inside a psychopath ready to kill him and that image gave him several nightmares. So that's the deal with the aliens and why we see them so little. We aren't afraid of them exactly, just the fact that we know they are out there watching and they are dangerous. That expectation of WHEN they are going to attack.

And that’s what makes this movie brilliant. The fact that they don’t show the alien right away, and when we know how scary they look, Graham is cm away from one with just a door between, and that they’re on their own, far from town. That built up tension is key.

I was surprised at your final comments about this movie not going philosophically deep enough. By the end of this film, I took from all of the things that lined up in the conclusion, that the movie was more about belief of existence of a higher spiritual power, than proof of alien life. That's the twist, and what the title "Signs" really meant to me. There is no bigger philosophical question, right? The alien takeover was simply the backdrop, and used on a very confined, smaller scale, of this family, to tell that story, I also thought the scares and tension were executed so perfectly . There is very little blood in the movie, but I remember the theater audience being on the edge of their seats!

This movie is one of the most well shot, well written Movies I will ever watch. The concepts in the movie are nothing new, very cliché- even dumb sounding at times, but I like how this movie kind of turned the whole alien invasion on his head. There wasn’t one, it was just focused on this one family alone in the country, with no real protection. And we never really got a good look at the thing until around the end, which was brilliant. The family dynamics were emotional and strong. The fact that the jump scares were underwhelming for the most part was cool too. It wasn’t a traditional horror film or alien film where the alien was popping up at random times with a terrifying face to scare the audience. All we see in the beginning is a leg in a corn field, and the shadowed figure at the birthday party- which is ten times scarier than anything we saw near the end. The music also aided to making things eerie. Repetitive and anxiety inducing. Reminds me of the similar repetitive piano riff in “Halloween” as Michael Myers slowly walks down the street at night.

I love the detail of Meryl saying "It felt wrong not to swing." when he was in the army recruitment office and explained why he had the minor league strikeout record. It was all leading up to him having the brute swinging strength to bludgeon the alien to death. Much like Bo having the "tick" about water for there to be glasses everywhere in the house. And like Morgan not only having asthma but having an ATTACK without his medication in order for his lungs to be closed off to avoid inhaling the poison. "Are you the type who sees signs, sees miracles?"

M Night is a lot like Hitchcock in the sense that he prefers suspense to jump scares. He will throw a few in but would rather you sat on the end of your seat not blinking. He also likes to poke his face in a few movies again like Hitchcock. Movies like "Sixth Sense", "Unbreakable" and "Lady in the Water" are about the build up instead of scaring you out of your chair.

I find that generally Asian horror films do a better job at the eerie suspense element that truly frightens you. I don't usually have nightmares while sleeping, but there's only one film that ever gave me nightmares, and it was one specific scene in a Japanese horror film called Kairo. I grew up in the deep woods with no lights at night but the stars and the moon. It’s scary as get out. The fear was real. This film made the terror of extraterrestrials 10 times worse. But of course, it’s a Spielberg film! The best part of “Signs” is the score. I’ve choreographed my dance troupe to this music. M. Night S.’s films always have a good premise, but always leaves you empty. Like it’s not completely thought out. So I agree with your ratings. For “Close Encounters”, get ready for that number to go UP!

Yeah, this movie isn't about aliens..it's about faith...the real questions we should be asking is grander than are aliens out there. It's meant to make us all think about the real deeper questions about our life, our creator, and life's journey. We saw how terrible it was for the Father to face extraordinary circumstances with no faith, even his family clearly saw it. Sadly many ppl are more concerned about the abstract more than the spiritual. If you removed the entire alien angle from the movie, would ppl even want to really sit down and deeply think about the message here? But you throw in aliens, werewolves, horror, etc, ppl will sit threw that for hours on end.

What people frequently forget about how intellectually advanced beings are not able to get out of a locked room, is because they have (theoretically) advanced beyond that. For instance, we may know that rubbing two sticks together can make a fire, that doesn't mean most people can 'make a fire'. An alien might know that you 'turn' a doorknob, but if the doors locked......
@TheOctobersReact
@TheOctobersReact Год назад
Although I do think that an advanced creature, even if turning a door knob with something not practiced, would still have the intuition to be able to turn the door knob, only because they would not be here and be completely clueless, how basic mechanical functions such as opening doors works But I definitely get what you were saying and I definitely agree with you 100%. Thank you for bringing this concept to my mind because I honestly haven’t considered it. I always think of it as us not understanding them not them not understanding us.

I've heard of "tin foil" hats ages ago but never looked them up until today, Here's what I found on Wikipedia. "Vice Magazine wrote that the tin foil hat in popular culture "can be traced back in a very weird and prescient short story written in 1927 by Julian Huxley" titled "The Tissue-Culture King", wherein the main character uses a metal hat to prevent being mind controlled by the villain scientist."

Here is my response to your questions 1) people who speculate that the universe is so big that there must be aliens fail to also recognize that life even at is most rudimentary level is so complicated it is seemingly impossible for it to have occurred by accident. So it is reasonable to assume the universe had to be so big to allow for the odds to be favorable of just one example of life to arise. The more therefore that you speculate of more than one example of life to have evolved the more you have to fall back on the necessiity of an intelligence to have creted it. As for me I doubt there are any other examples of life in the universe. And I've seen nothing yet to sway me from that opinion. Because as they say, extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence to back them up. And that extraordinary evidence has never been presented, only hearsay and circumstantial evidence that is easily discounted. But I'm open to being wrong. 2) I recall hearing of tinfoil hats long before SIGNS, like back in the '70s I think. But I don't recall where. 3) The aliens are weird and strangely inept given how technologically superior they supposedly are because M. Knight was making use of them as a metaphor. They represent the demonic, or perhaps fear. And the cure for both is faith which is represented by water. It is not a good metaphor but it still works to get his point across, faith is better than fear because people of faith have the added benefit of providential signs to steer them in the right direction. Preachy I know but without an unsderstanding of that underlying message and watching the movie strictly as a typical sci-fi, it doesn't make a lot of sense. 4) Your ignorance of M' Knight Shyamalan suggests you need to see his hands down best movie THE SIXTH SENSE. It is the movie that put him on the map. 5) Enjoyed your reaction and I am now a subscriber.

Experiments using the makeup of the primordial Earth have produced amino acids, the building blocks of DNA. I think it's entirely reasonable to assume that a few million (or billion) years could randomly produce complex structures and life. Completely agree that extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence, but I also believe that as vast as the universe is, it is very likely that life developed elsewhere as well.
@itt23r
@itt23r Год назад
@@jowbloe3673An amino acid is made up of maybe 20 atoms, tops. Proteins and DNA are made up of millions and the have to be sequenced precisely right for them to produce any conceivable sort of life. And there is no guiding mechanism to get it right. Natural selection does not kick in until after life has arrived. Not only that this newly formed accidental life has to have come about with a life force that is telling it that living is better than not living, that eating is a good thing and that it needs to split in two every day to perpetuate its species. If i were a one celled organism newly evolved from a pond of goo, I doubt very much if I'd have come up wqith that last one. Bottom line is scientists have equated life evolving from nonliving chemicals to a tornado going passing through a junk yard and leaving a fully functional 747 in its wake. And anyone with a brain knows that in tnature that sort of thing just doesn;'t happen. Nature always procedes in the opposite direction, making chaos from order. So no, a couple million years not even in the vastness of the universe is nothing compared to what is involved to create a living cell. Statistically speaking it probably never should have happened once
@IXSICNESS
@IXSICNESS Год назад
Point 1 is utter nonsense. We have plenty of evidence for life arising naturally. What we have zero evidence for is life being created or set in motion by an external intelligence. Your argument is the personal incredulity fallacy and you should be ashamed of invoking it

Shyamalan's films always have something to do with man's relationship with Jesus. The scene in the basement where Morgan is having a crisis and Graham is holding him and talking him through it, is a reflection of Jesus holding and comforting any of us going through a crisis. Psalm 139 declares God's omniscience and also his complete intimacy with each of us. The Psalm declares that He is always, ALWAYS with you.
