Your response time numbers are way off. The Alienware barely gets under 4ms and the G7 gets around 3.5ms. Your number of 6+ is inaccurate and makes this video show a clear winner. Watch Hardware Unboxed video on the 2 monitors.
I have had 2 AW with dead pixel, so ordered a G7 to try before getting my AW replaced again. The G7 has far better blacks and no IPS glow, I would actually say it looked slightly better to me. However the curve I could not get use to. In games its great but when using for work or browsing I hate it. The Samsung seemed to be less bright and kinder on the eyes. The AW had far better build quality and Samsung seems a little plastic. AW also has 3 year warranty over the G7 1 year. I read that the AW has lower input lag if that makes a difference to you. If the Samsung was a flat screen it would of been so much harder to make a decision and I might of gone with the G7. I went for the AW in the end.
sadly i dont think that alienware can create a monitor without a dead pixel. Went through 3 panels to get one that didnt have a dead pixel in the middle of the screen. My 25" has a dead pixel in the bottom left of the screen so i never see it. Still annoying AF.
@@nashwalker7 Don't complain, at least Dell/Alienware actually replace their panels if you have any dead pixels. Samsung and LG do not replace the panel unless you have at least 5 dead pixels or more.
i don't regret anything g7 is so good and for 600 euro i got the 32 inch was a good deal actually and never had flickering issues cause it came with 1009.3 firmware version and its working flawlessly
exactly, the G7 is bomb! and i haven't had any issues, and calibrated it, super great color. If i change for any other monitor, it's for a 4k, 120hz, OLED
@@igspar007 Are the colors really that good? Really want to get a g7 but I'm scared the colors won't be good on the VA panel and I've heard alot of people complain about it. What did you use to calibrate it?
@@hugogregs Bro, the colors are that good. It's well worth the money.. I don't know what everyone is complaining about anyways, they're just talking. It's well known already that Samsung makes some of the best panels. And to be honest, the problems that the G7 did have were at the very beginning of it's release, before the firmware upgrade. None of these problems were hardware or spec related, merely software issues that were corrected already by the time i purchased it. So all i got was pure satisfaction paired with a RTX 3090 and 240hz . I used an x rite idisplay studio to calibrate it. Very nice instrument and evened out the blue, made everything pop more. I still use it, but for now, i gave the G7 to my lady.... BECAUSE.... I just got the LG 55CX OLED... haha... I had to give this OLED experience a try for a while..... New problem now is worrying about burn-in
Great review, I love the mix of tech, what the differences are in real life use and your personal recomendation. Making the numbers come to life and showing the screens in use is also really excellent. Thanks.
Awesome content! Just subbed. I got the g7 for 520$ in my country, but everything is out of stock currently. 8 more days till it arrives, its almost been a month since i ordered it. The AW2721D is 900$ atm, usually 1300$ but im buying a whole new rig. So the 400$ gives me a 5600x and a new case.
I just bought the Alienware last week based on your prior review, for $800. Couldn't be happier, paired with an Alienware M17 R3 (i9 and 2080 Super) its a great combo. Great content on you channel - clear and concise. Great work. I would subscribe, but then I would just keep buying more stuff.
@Garlicbread Fan I personally don't mind it. I went from using a pretty budget monitor to this one so if anything its quality may not be the best, but definitely way better than my previous monitor.
Odyssey g7 in sync mode has adaptive overdrive same as the gsync ultimate in the Alienware, but without Nvidias official board and its various modes are turned off because of this. And in this mode it is also the most consistent of the 2 in terms of overshoot all the way through the refresh range. Update the monitor's firmware and enjoy. u should look into these things when you do comparison reviews
Maybe you missed the part in the video when I was talking about the G sync compatibility and the low input lag mode you can’t have it enabled at the same time, so it’s not nearly as versatile as the Alienware you can just turn it on and leave it on
I've owned the g7 since it came out the only real issue I have with it is the stupid long legs and that's it its really the best monitor I've ever owned
I owned G7 and as always Samsung with alot of flaws!!! Broken back plastic, very weak in general, also black pixel appeared in the middle after one month. Im done with Samsung for the rest of my life, same happened when i bought samsung s8 edge couple years ago it was dead pixel in the corner of the phone! What a shame cheap company Samsung is! Now i sold my monitor and waiting for Alienware AW2721D to arrive. As far as i heard their monitors are on par with the best, high quality too! I mean it’s 20kg weight, where Samsung is only 8kg! Says alot about cheap build quality of Samsung. Can’t wait for my new Alienware much higher brightness and no more retarded curves on the screen which are clearly flawed from the phones to their monitors. All these reviewers who say Samsung G7 better, probs got some money from Samsung to promote. Hot garbage trust me, i used it for 5 months!!!
Ultimately: Buy which ever of these monitors suits your needs & your price point. You'll be happy with either purchase most likely. At the end of the day, if you love the product that you purchased, life is good!
It's not faulty though, treat it as TN viewing angles, a byproduct of the technology. VA transition times in mainly dark transitions aren't a defect either? 🤔 I wouldn't pay for IPS anyway if I wouldn't need it due to IPS glow though, but to call it faulty is stretching the truth at least a little bit.
You forgot to mention the g7 supports DSC like the Acer model so 10 bit colours are supported at 240hz and also the vrr range on the g7 is 48hz to 240hz and the flicker problems have been fixed in the latest firmware update all the Alienware has to offer over the g7 is a gsync module that is not a deal breaker for many either as I don't tend to play games under 48fps in any scenario the motion clarity in gaming is way better on the g7 also if u want the color accuracy for work then I'd go for the Acer 1440p 270hz model over the Alienware
Eh I dunno, I didn’t include the Acer in this comparison because I don’t have it, this was just between the two I had on hand and I’ll probably cap monitor comparisons at two monitors. They take too long to make lol. And personally I never experienced flickering wth the G7 even when I made review and update videos with it back in July
@@no1l888 @levismith I think it depends on the graphics card I think only the RTX 2000 Series and 3000 Series is capable for DSC. However the ACER 270HZ is only overclockable to 270HZ and its native refresh rate is 240 and you can't get Freesync or gsync to 270HZ so that is a let down. Also even though HDR don't matter too much The alienware has HDR 600 vs The acers HDR 400. You are getting a higher refresh rate with the ACER but you lose all gsync/freesync and no HDR once you overclock it to 270HZ. ( not sure if you can enable both GSYNC and HDR at 240HZ with the acer either like you can do with the alienware.
I could be, not saying everything I do is perfect, but I am just sharing some findings. I will say that both when properly optimized for speed, the Alienware is just a little bit more noticeably snappier.
lol I purchased mine 2 weeks ago with the intent that it was supposed to be delivered the first week of January... But arrived 2/3 days after I ordered it. Love it
6.7ms input lag for the G7?? Rtings, displayninja and PCM only recorded ~2ms of input lag with VRR off. The AW2721D usually was the same or higher input lag according to those reviewers.
yea this guy is complete needs to get hes shit up right he claims 1ms across hes two testing for aw omegalol thats not even posible to achive trust me g7 is better panel then aw
After using G7 for a couple of months, I’m happy I chose this over the AW. Colors are hard to beat, and when I have friends over the experience they get playing on it is jaw dropping
no doubt...even when i fist saw it at microcenter back when it launched it was MOST Definitely the best looking/performing gaming monitor...but the price JFC....i literally bought a 27" nano ips...and a 34" VA mi monitor vs the cost of a 32" g7. I had to get the 32" bc it was bigger and i felt compelled to run multi monitor with the 27" as either were hard to pair for multi monitor and its CURVE....i had to pass on the G7. Even so you need pretty BEEFY gpu power to really push games like apex/warzone up to 240hz/fps....and i dont really find games like cs:go siege/valorant that ideal to play at that resolution anyways.
I bought the Alienware AW2721D last week for £559 (20% discount). It's fantastic. I upgraded from the awesome Dell S2721DGF 165Hz monitor. My previous Dell at 165Hz and set to Extreme response time produced no ghosting at all. The alienware however has very very noticeable ghosting at both the Super Fast and Extreme settings. On Fast the ghosting goes away. Today I read in the product manual that the response times are 3ms for Fast, 2ms for Super Fast and 1ms for Extreme. Super Fast and Extreme are unusable IMO. Quite disappointed as I've just come from an all round excellent monitor to this highly expensive monitor. I typically get 250FPS average on Apex Legends. I'd like to know if anyone has managed to get a good balance with the variance settings on this monitor. I'm also waiting on my Radeon 6800 XT to arrive, and since this monitor is G-Sync Ultimate, will the Radeon be able to take any advantage of G-Sync? I need to test with G-Sync off in case that helps the ghosting. Overall I'm pleased, but really disappointed that out of the box there is massive ghosting (Apex Legends running an RTX 3090, averaging 250+FPS). The ghosting really is unacceptable.
Great review! I've been debating what monitor to get next to go with my 3090 and I think you sealed the deal with the Alienware for me. I've owned Alienware monitors in the past and their higher end products have been shockingly good.
Please help me I been researching monitors for months now I can’t decide lol. It was out of these two monitors then I was looking at the G9 and then the lg”s. I just can’t make up my mind I’m definitely getting the G8 when it comes out. I don’t have a budget so please can anybody help me out
Ya sound a lot like an Alienware fanboy lol no offense but your response times are SO wrong on the g7 look at rtings professional review. Either way here’s a like and sub. Merry Christmas.
The alienware monitor is currently on sale and costs significantly less than the G7. I'm currently using the G7 and just have not enjoyed the curve so am thinking about selling it and switching to the alienware.
I appreciate your review / comparison. I had both of these monitors sitting in my wishlist Amazon cart. After watching this video, Alienware is the monitor I’ve decided to go with.
Tft central has way different results than you my man regarding the g7 input lag and gtg response time! Its probably cause they're not using their phones to test the monitors 🙃
your numbers arent matching up with professional testers. So id be very careful people, watching this guy is extremely misleading. Here is a website that professionally and excellently tests monitors and theyll show you the g7 is much faster response times than shown here. They ofcourse also list the best modes to use it at and tests at those settings as well, this is my go to for displays. RTINGS.com
Can anyone answer my question on 1440p at 240hz? I have the 1080p isp 240hz alienware monitor atm was thinking about upgrading to this one but worried about how the fps affects high demanding games i play mostly fps but like the mmos sometimes worried if im getting like 90 fps its gunna look like crap, rocking a 2080 ti atm but trying to get a 3080 is a 3080 enough to run it or do i need more power?
I got the G7 and I like it, even though it's a typical buggy-ass Samsung VA panel. But if you get it for a good price and realize this beforehand, it's an absolute blast. But things like being able to set the refresh on the monitor to 240, setting it to 144 in windows and then having a really stuttery experience is standard fair for Samsung panels and *many* people don't realize little things like that. Your game will recognize 144hz, but your panel will try to output 240hz and that will clash and result in jittery uneven framepacing for instance. Same with backlight bleed and quality control. I learned that I don't mind VA backlight bleed as much as IPS glow so for me it ended up being a simple decision between Black Friday deals for the G7 27'' (350 euros) and LG Gp850 (370). Tried them both, decided to keep the G7. For that price I can take the buggyness and live with it. I just don't understand the input lag numbers though. According to most other reviews the G7 is basically one of the fastest panels out there. According to your numbers, my previous panel was faster in that regard. Most even measured it as faster than the Alienware... by about 0.3ms on average across reviews.
You touched on a great topic, I thought the same thing as you while watching this video. The latency values about the G7 are completely wrong in this video
Note: As of a couple days ago, Dell dropped the Alienware AW2721D to $889.00 USD. I'm assuming this price will only get lower. This is most likely due to the fact that other brands are starting to release more 1440p 240hz IPS monitors (Acer, AOC, and ASUS). Dell/Alienware knows they are no longer the only ones.. I purchased the AW2721D on Amazon for $735.00 USD and fucking love it. ALSO another thing worth mentioning. Amazon says it wont be delivered until January. I purchased mine 2 weeks ago with the intent that it was supposed to be delivered the first week of Jan... But arrived 3 days after I ordered it. I'm NOT saying this will be the case for anyone here who decides to purchase it from Amazon, but I'd figure I'd share my experience.
Wow, that Alienware Monitor is a thing of beauty. Unfortunately... both that and the G7 are not officially available in my country.. At least not from an authorized source with reliable warranty. I did find one reseller for the Alienware Monitor here.. but they are charging more than twice the MSRP.. at 1,765 USD.. with no real warranty >.>
I mean like I said, I never claimed my testing to be ‘absolutely perfect’ just using what I have. But I will say the Alienware, numbers aside is extremely fast and a bit noticeably faster than the G7
I agree the Alienware has severe inverse ghosting on most overdrive settings making gaming unplayable nevermind even being comparable to the fast setting on the g7 without MBR backlight strobing which Alienware also has
@@levispartan1993 G7 image distortion is minimal on fastest and good for esports shooters! BTW I'm running the latest firmware on my G7 "27 as well which probably improve things too!
@@nignog2676 Yes it is if you still can. It has ULMB and 10bit colors up to 270hz. I tried the Alienware and the Samsung but ended up keeping the Acer and sending the other 2 back. It had more accurate colors, significantly better backlight bleed and IPS glow, much better pixel response time, and not to mention it is selling for $699 MSRP.
@@nignog2676 For me it didnt matter. Gsync modules are supposed to be better since it has variable overdrive (less ghosting with different frame rates). So for example, it would be better at 60fps games. But between these 2 monitors, i actually noticed more ghosting on the AW, even at 60fps games. So in my opinion, no i wouldnt base my purchase on which has a g-sync module and which doesnt. Whats more important is having ULMB. This can be a major deal breaker for some people. The alienware unfortunately doesnt have it because its a nano ips. The acer does have it, so that is a huge point in favor of the acer for motion clarity.
Hey bro I got the Samsung odyssey G7 for my PS5 and I feel like the colors don’t pop up as much as my last monitor do you know what are the best color settings for the odyssey G7 I appreciate if you can help me
Got the Alienware for around $750, 100% worth it especially with their financing, got a free credit boost with on time payments for it. But it's amazing in games and have little to no complaints. Only thing I could complain about is the size of the legs, or small spots with panel edge glow because of the IPS panel.
I agree that the Alienware is easily the better piece of kit. However, I ended up finding the G7 on sale for $500 and couldn’t resist myself. At that price it’s more than half of what I’d pay for a few inconsequential features on the Alienware. The only problem I’ve had with the G7 so far, after setting it up yesterday, would be how large the stand is. I know you mentioned it in this video, but jeez it’s big. Even if you have a massive desk I’d still be prepared to buy a monitor stand almost immediately. Other than that, the G7 has been an amazing experience for the few hours I’ve tested it thus far.
are you still impressed with the g7? In addition, in the long term, the curve began to bother you in games? Is a flat monitor better for reading or watching movies?
@@frannydelacruz3724 After using this monitor for over a year I can easily say it’s worth the money. The curve is awesome, not only in games, but also while viewing media. One you get used to it, you really forget the curve is even there. It simply just makes everything seem so much more immersive in a way. The performance is also very good and the quickly adjustable settings are nice when transferring from game to game. The only drawbacks are the giant monitor stand which takes up a lot of space on the desk; I recommend getting a monitor arm for this reason. Also, I have some backlight which bleeds onto the corners of my screen when it’s pitch black. However, this is kinda unavoidable unless you’re getting a super high end model. Overall 10/10 would buy again.
@@brandonhood1936 I have seen many curved screens and if you forget that it is curved. i will buy this one for 519 euros thanks for the information i also ordered a stand. i was confused by the reviews.
I just bought the G7 , I play in dark room and bright room. I wanted the increased contrast as well. Oh yeah, amazon has it for for 495 and 78 more dollars for a r year protection plan. Easy choice.
yeaaah idunno the reviewer doesn't even properly understand the difference between response time and input lag or the benefits of a gsync module. i'd skip over that whole section
**Says someone who doesn't have both of them to try** more or less, the samsung limits your use of g sync by not being able to use the benefit in its ideal and fastest state, where the alienware does not🙂 - Not selling you on either of them, just buy what you feel meets your needs.
@@TooMuchTech i may not have the aw2721d specifically to try but that doesn't change the fact that what you said was factually incorrect. also "the samsung limits your use of g sync by not being able to use the benefit in its ideal and fastest state, where the alienware does not" is such a general non-statement that's not really saying anything. thanks to LFC, the only real benefit is variable overdrive, but the G7 miraculously has excellent pixel response on the "Faster" setting across the entire hz range. anyways, back to input lag. the pixel overdrive setting has nothing to do with input lag, and your "slo-mo test" isn't nearly sufficient to accurately test for this. Rtings for example rates the G7 at 2.7ms, which is in line with all other 240hz monitors, which is also what the AW2721D will be at once tested (2.3-3.0ms range). to go lower you will need to look at 360hz monitors. you are feeling a placebo effect, without question. also it looks like the fast setting is the best on the AW2721D as it looks close to perfect, definitely not the super fast that you are recommending
i mean the samsung proves the main reason i wont touch a 240hz panel...esp for qhd...the samsung has good image uniformity across the varoius ADAPTIVE Sync ranges....if you have overdrive enabled with the 240hz alienware and play a AAA title maxed...surely you wont see 240fps let alone 200fps+ on the majority of these games maxed out....and the alienware has image quality issues at sub max refreshrates....and response time also suffers....compared to the VA/samsung which is actually one of the more/most ideal monitors bc its adaptive sync and overall panel performance at say 100fps-120fps QHD...or maxed AAA game...equates to good image uniformity and response time. TBH the 800$ price range of the 27" isnt worth it to me to justify. I went the alternative route and went with a xoimi mi 34" va 21:9 simlar panel to the gigabyte i think its a samsung panel....and an open box 350$ 27" 165hz LG nano ips. For the same cost as the 32" 800$ G7 at launch. Now i got the 16:9 for multiplayer/moba etc....and the 21:9 for the majority of my PVE titles/mmo. UNLESS you only plan on having HIGH fps yelds like for playing warzone on low/BFV on low etc....games that can really MAXMIZE 240hz on QHD...you would be better off with the samsung as it covers a MAJORITY of genre and lower fps image uniformity/frame times etc....much better than the alienware....its the same reason i bought the aw2720 initially for FPS shooters....and exchanged it the day i went to pick it up at BB for 320$ on sale for the open box recently returned LG. IM also in a stage of potentially selling my desktop and going back to a laptop to save towards next gen. So 16:9 QHD felt like a good middle ground or i wanted a "DECENT" monitor with good color presets etc...to be able to run with different systems or different levels of GPU power that had per frame matched adaptive sync. WIth emphasis on a good enough turbo refresh rate performance at sub MAX hz FPS ranges....much like the LG 165hz QHD panel can operate. ALSO i found both monitors to be truly hard to incoproate in a multi monitor setup....vs my LG and XIOMI literally have perfectly matched bezel even bottom/chin bezel perfect size/match/line up. At least the price is finally dropping on the G7...just even after 2 years with the MI....and a lil over half a year with the LG....and its still hard to justify the G7 bc its curve and lack of IDEAL multimonitor setup. As great as the image quality is....i guess id consider it if i had a kid that really loved gaming...and only wanted a single monitor solution. The curve and distortion also made it a pass for me for content consumption...let alone creation.
Great video, this is gonna be a factor on my next monitor purchase. So I currently own a 32 inch Samsung chg70 and while it’s a great monitor that was ahead of its time it’s just too big and I need a 27 inch. I want either any of these 2 on the more expensive front and I’ve also been looking at the Msi mag quantum dot that just dropped a couple months ago
Do you think rx 6750xt nitro+ with a r9 5900x and 32 gb ram will ve enough for the g7 ....also when playing shooting games should i turn the freesync off so i take the advantages of the response time ??? Can you help me ?
Do not get the g7. I returned mine in favour of an aw25 1080p and am very happy i so did. The VA on the samaung feels very cold and sterile, very liveless. The monitor has no color saturation option!!!!! 1080p looks bad on the g7 and the curve is not that great for competetive shooters (i play apex comp on all low). The monitor stand on the g7 is ridiculous:) too big
It's a fantastic monitor, I own it myself. It's got impressive response times and incredibly low input lag. Color accuracy is really very good so it's a monitor that is an all round great performer. The only time i will go and replace it is in the future for the Alienware AW2721D haha
My laptop is Alienware M15 R5 (Ryzen 7-5800H/16GB/1TB/GeForce RTX 3060). Am I 2k capable? The games that I am playing are in the category of Mass Effect, Prey, Diablo και League of Legends (i know that in this particular, 2k won't be a problem) and I really like movies-series so HDR is a big bonus for me (the reason that I want 27'' in the first place). If I can, I am between those two monitors. If not, then I will go for Alienware's AW2521H Gaming Monitor 25" FHD 1920x1080 360Hz.Thank you in advance for your time and help.
Everyone is sooo hype for HDMI 2.1, but consoles are barely able to hit 4k60. It will be next to impossible for a Triple A title or non arcade game to reach 4k120, save your money folks and exit the hype train. HDMI 2.1 is a sham and is promoting technology that consoles are a long way from actually being able to utilize. HDMI 2.1 will get you 1080p or 1440p at 120hz, so you do NOT need HDMI 2.1 for that.
Having just bought the Samsung G7 using the local dimming set to on makes any backlight bleed gone and the blacks are really deep. Much nicer than a grey looking IPS with corner glow. The dimming feature on the IPS would stand out as worse as the native blacks are much worse. I wonder if the input lag is worse with the local dimming feature on, pity ypu didn't measure it compared to off on the Samsung. Like you said i can notice extra lag with g sync compat on and the response times are slower. I do as you said and use fastest mode and all syncs off, not noticed any tearing even when my fps is at say 90fps using a set 240hz. The curve is a non issue to me i hardly even notice now and it does at my viewing distance have a nice feel, plus it makes the VA viewing angles better.
I will go for samsung because its the new 2021 edition right now and its 345 usd in my country. Also have the s2721dgf wich is a verry good performer but a bad ips glow in left corner
meanwhile me on the g7 wait so 100 brightness is really bright why dont i feel my eyeballs bleeding? or getting tired its the same with my phone in 1000 nit i get zero eye strain and funkely enough i have less issues with migraines with higher brightness on screens then lower brightness i must be a wierd human from owning it i dont miss my 600 euro for it love it for movies and gaming the hdr wel the only game out the box that i find impressive with it is devil may cry 5 that was just beautiful and its like a hole different game when in hdr another game that im currently playing is also damn gorgeous but requires atleast for me to change gamma in nvidia settings to 0.80-0.85 which is horizon zero dawn once the gamma is set to that hdr is a huge leap in picture quality man that difference of hdr off and on is just wow even if i got to change the gamma setting because windows 10 is being shitty with its hdr support if it isnt enabled from the game all the whites are crushed due to how windows 10 does hdr and thats not the monitor's fault if the question is what games require more in the future raytracing or hdr its 100% hdr im sold to hdr and i dont want to go to a monitor that doesnt have hdr support anymore now while being sold on hdr its not perfect there issues like cyberpunk hdr is washed out made a reshade preset which fixes the coloring so it looks good agian hdr in far cry looks fine mainly it looks sharper and more vibrant but i dont notice a increase in shadows only in highlights offcourse the fact that i got to adjust gamma to fix hdr in horizon isnt lovely either from a out of the box experience but atleast there ways to fix hdr problems and any benefit from hdr is welcome i do experience a bug still even while its the latest firmware were it keeps complaining about the usb ports not working properly while in testing them they work 100% i eventualy just stoped pluging in the usb to make the ports work yeah its really a nightmare often to use the usb ports but i wil never purchase a monitor for it's usb hub its to much fiddling on every monitor to use the ports it aint worth it i rather use my own usb hub
Not bright enough Imo + that curve tho... and 1 year warranty something goes wrong after a year and you just wasted a lot of cash. No gsync either on faster mode is a deal breaker for me.. I guess it really depends what panel you want. I bought my monitor for gaming and not watching movies so that is why I picked up the alienware. HDR also seems superior with the alienware even though on both they are not the best hdr monitors.
@@jacobs5697 thow it on 100 brightness 100 contrast, only monitor brand you can and doesn't over saturate like typical monitors, its plenty bright.. you dont need to select any response times when adaptive sync is on, and gsync is active.. your loss to waste more money on the alienware
@@dnsean03 To state I wasted money on the alienware is incorrect I picked it up for $800 after tax * The price range.around the same with the G7 The g7 does not have dedicated gsync with hdr at 240HZ either. Also the response time is crap on the g7. Don't lecture anyone * about wasting money* when purchasing monitors the clear winner is the alienware over the g7 but I respect peoples opinions and their choices to go with it. I don't act rude when someone tells you facts about the monitor. So its up to the purchaser if they prefer a curved screen and less response time and sacrificing dedicated gsync with hdr so it is really depending on their budget and what deals are available to them at the time.
