In this video we go over the differences in the Align TB70 and Align TB60. I’ve been asked many times between the two witch one should you get? They are very similar in price! My favorite size heli is 600 but I love 700s too!

Based on RU-vids from WestHobbiesRC, I ended up going with the Align TB60 Super Combos. After watching the videos and following along on Patreon, I just couldn't get excited about the TB70 the same way I could about the TB60 kits. Visually my biggest complaint about the TB60 is the vertical stabilizer's ugly TB70 white trim. You did a great job building both the machines shown off in the video, beautiful work!

Thank you Cory! I’m glad the videos helped you make your decision! I’m glad you enjoyed these videos! I hope you enjoy your TB60! Yes, the white around the tail is ugly! I’ve got some 2mm carbon sheets for my comet and I’m thinking about making a new tail fin! I’ll send you a message on patreon with more detail! I think a solid black carbon (could vinyl wrap it!) would look SOOOOOO much better!

I think we all appreciate you making videos to introduce new models to your subscribers! Your build video -- on the HeliDirect channel -- was really great. About the updated TB60 carbon stabilizer -- this sounds like just what we need! Please keep me posted on any design updates you make, maybe I can follow along and fix mine too!

I’m glad the video is helpful. You can’t go wrong with either one. Now one thing I will say which I have been told it’s been fixed and I wanted to mention it in the video and forgot. Some TB70s have issues with the main gear exploding in flight. I’ve put about 20 flights in this one and no issues and again was told the issue was solved. But the TB60 flys big and no issues like that.

@garyowen3743 9 месяцев назад
Great Review Jeff. TBH. Align could not of got things more wrong. Last to enter the TB market. They had all the time in the world to get this one right. Instead ended up changing the design a few times from SAB copy design complaints on groups. Ended up with something looking like a whale with blades due to a bad designed frame to house the motor and ESC ended up with a bulbous canopy. They got the colours looking better on a canopy of the quality of a dust sheet. The 600 looks a little better but just houses the motor. If they was going to plastic trim the 700 frame for what ever reason. It would of looked better in black. So bang for buck which one would I personally buy. Neither I would opt for the new Steam 700 pro. Also designed from the ground up with a lot more thought gone into design
@westhobbiesrc8051
@westhobbiesrc8051 9 месяцев назад
Yes, it can be argued that they copied a SAB. ( witch we all know they did) but, compared to the order Align helis hey stepped up big time. Now does there need to be improvements? Definitely! I agree, the white trim on the TB70 is terrible. Also not a fan of the canopy. I seen the steam models at IRCHA and I would not go that far that they designed it from the ground up. The 700 has a lot of XL and SAB in the design. There 400 is almost a dead copy of the SAB RAW 420. Unfortunately that done a lot in the RC works as SAB has a outstanding design and why design your own when you only need to change 30% to be “legal” it will be interesting to see the Steam models in the real world and see how they are.

If you had to choose between the Nimbus 550 and the TB60 which would you go with? Now that you have now have experience with both models I would be interested to hear your opinions.
@westhobbiesrc8051
@westhobbiesrc8051 9 месяцев назад
So they are both different helis in the same ish size class. The Nimbus 550 is actually slightly smaller. It’s lighter and more powerful on a 6s setup. The TB60 is slightly bigger, little less power to weight ratio but flys and looks bigger in the air. Both builds are about the same. So it’s a hard decision on witch one I would go with.

I also had this internal debate. I'm hesitant to buy a seven year old design not wanting to run into parts issues. Not that much more money for the 60.

8:05 if you have two batteries you can fly two times with 6s setup while with a 12s setup you can only fly once
@westhobbiesrc8051
@westhobbiesrc8051 8 месяцев назад
No always true. I run 12s stick packs so I can’t fly twice on a 6s because they are together, I don’t like running two battery’s for heli. Each of helis have there set packs. But you can do it that way if you like.

Love these machines, I have the 550L and thinking of getting the TB60. Stuck between 12s and 6s. I’ve been flying one 6s for a while and love the practicality I’m wondering if going with 12s is a huge power jump? And what about weight? Isn’t using another 6s battery adding more weight to the heli? Trying to understand the pros and cons between both. Would like to hear your opinion on this
@westhobbiesrc8051
@westhobbiesrc8051 13 дней назад
@@user-bc5fr2el3m the TB60 is a good heli, some issues but all in all a good machine. So there’s a couple pros and cons on a 6s VS 12s setup. Of course weight, 12s is heavier then 6s. But, 12 S is a lot less amperage and demand on the actual system. Your flight times can be a little longer depending on your flying style, but it really comes down to flying style. I can see upwards of 220 A on a 6s set up. And only see 120 amps on a 12s setup. If you are a sport flyer or mild 3-D 6s is all you need. If your a hard core smack flyer 12s is what you want.
@user-bc5fr2el3m
@user-bc5fr2el3m 13 дней назад
Awesome! 😃 Would you recommend going with a 12s set up and using a 6s until I feel to go with a 12s? Or am I not able to do that?
@westhobbiesrc8051
@westhobbiesrc8051 13 дней назад
@@user-bc5fr2el3m so unfortunately you would not be able to do that. The motor KV is much lower on 12s. But, even with 12s you can run the exact same head speed as 6s and never know the difference until you get hard on it.

Question, so I see most of the TB60 are out of stock but the TB70 is not, in fact the TB60 is more expensive than the TB70 for some reason, but my question is can you still run a 6S on the TB70 if you want to even though it has a different motor, oncourse lower the RPM.
@westhobbiesrc8051
@westhobbiesrc8051 7 месяцев назад
It is pretty crazy that the TB70 regular version is cheaper. So yes and no, yes you can run 6s but you will need a different motor. The stock motor KV is way to low to run 6s and get more then 900 RPM.

Nice comparison video! What about crash resistance? I suppose it will survive much better than T-Rex 700X? I saw videos where 700X was like completely destroyed in crashes. Well, probably frame was ok, it's just the effect how tail boom explodes into pieces hah. Another question, is it easier and faster to build than T-Rex 700X?
@westhobbiesrc8051
@westhobbiesrc8051 2 месяца назад
Thank you! So that’s a really hard one to tell or say. Every crash is completely different. Like any 600-700 heli crashes are going to be a costly expense and hurt the heli. But I’ve hard crashes not really do any damage and I’ve had them completely destroyed the heli. It’s easier and faster to build the TB70 over the 700X

@@westhobbiesrc8051 Nice to hear that TB70 is easier to assemble. Btw, you probably remember me, i was bugging you with bunch of questions a year ago or so, also i was planning to get a 470LP. Well, congratulate me! I actually bought a T-Rex 500X this year as my first 'real' heli! It was hard to decide but after watching a lot of videos of 470 and 500X i made my pick. I feel like 500X is a good balance between smaller and bigger helis. Still not finished the build, meanwhile was practicing on my modified micro heli K110S with larger blades and heavier battery. One question regarding a loctite: how i even can be sure that it works? Should i just slightly try to unscrew a screw and feel resistance to see if it's locked? Recently on my micro heli blades flew away because grips on the head became detached, it was a bit scary considering that i flied it indoors, it was like some explosion hah.. and i flied on it a lot, it worked fine before. Would not want the same to happen with my T-Rex 500X lol.

Jeff, since the slighly larger TB70 uses double the voltage and I'm assuming higher capacity (mAh) batteries, how does this affect power and flight times? I'm assuming the TB70 is not much more weight than the TB60.
@westhobbiesrc8051
@westhobbiesrc8051 9 месяцев назад
Yes, twice the voltage as 12s VS 6s but! The same mAh pack/packs. So the TB70 runs a 12s 5000mAh and the TB60 runs a 6s 5000mAh pack. Now for flight times I would say they are almost the same. I get 5 plus minutes on the TB70 and 5 plus minutes on the TB60. Now if I was to crank the TB60 all the way up and fly it hard then slightly shorter around 4 minutes. The TB70 is about a pound more.
@LichaelMewis
@LichaelMewis 9 месяцев назад
@@westhobbiesrc8051 so if the tb70 is about a pound more but has twice the voltage, I'd expect a significant difference on say a pitch pump. Is this correct?
