There are also a lot of jumps where she angled out but in as she picked over the years which borderline an inside edge. the examples used here are some of her best ones

Really? I was not aware of this! I always thought she had an outside edge lutz, but I'll look into this!

First! I would like to see Mao Asada's. I wonder how she has improved/deteriorated on her lutz over the years
@figureskatingcow4636
@figureskatingcow4636 5 лет назад
Right! I can make a video to see how her fixing her lutz went. Thanks for the idea!
@татьянакилина-г6у
I would like to see Medvedeva's. I would like to see how her new coach corrected her LUTZ and compare with previous.

She never had a true Lutz, Lutz is more than just having outside edge.

@@figureskatingcow4636 The essence of the Lutz is the counter-force (no other jump has this). This means that skater's left foot travels continuously on a clockwise curve but their body jumps in counter-clockwise direction. Alina never had the correct entry for Lutz. She had correct curve at first but then changed her curve (like most Flutzers do). The only reason she had outside edge is because she literally forced her ankle to stay outside while her curve/edge is already changed. That's why she never had deep outside edge. And doing this is definetly easier than doing a Lutz. True Lutz is done with deep outside edge and can be seen from any angle. Lutz with a change of edge/curve is basically a Flip.

@@roselinewinter8497 you're right. I never really looked closely at Alina's Lutz, but I did think it was weird the way she rolled her ankle before taking off, I just didn't know that it was incorrect. Thank you for your comment and insight, I now understand it.

almost everyone at that rink has bad lutz's. If they have a good one, its normally gone by a few seasons in SR. I honestly am curious to why that is

Amanda Sutton Zhilina used to train under Tutberidze, but she and Sasha Trusova left and joined Evgeny Plushenko’s group.

Her lutz was bound to get worse. In her earlier years she picked way to far into the inside of her skate, shifted her weight into her picking leg, and struggled to keep her foot on a shallow outside edge. It was only a matter of time before she began to flutz especially since she’s under Eteri. That women doesn’t give a fuck about good technique.

And Alina had the potential to have a perfect technique, but Eteri ruined everything
@interestingnamenotsointere8451
Oof it feels like she is also loosing her toe pick slowly too... ☹️

It's already full blade which is sad 😞

great video but the measurement isn’t really taking into account that the videos aren’t from perfectly head on, im sure it was hard to find videos bc for some reason they love to show lutzes from the side where you can’t even see the edge 😭
@javierblazquez3662
@javierblazquez3662 5 лет назад
Tbh, I can't really consider her edge cause how can you even tell in/out-side or flat edge if her lutz looks more like a loop
@figureskatingcow4636
@figureskatingcow4636 5 лет назад
Yeah it's basically a loop at this point... Along with her flip

Funny how theres so much know it all people out here. ISU has declared that having a textbook lutz is not applicable for all ladies with different body types. Thats why there are different techniques for a lutz! As long as its in the outside edge ang theres a toe pick assistance, its a lutz!
@avocadonts9858
@avocadonts9858 5 лет назад
very few skaters have completely textbook lutzes which is understandable, but as much as i love alina, her lutz often has a flat/inside edge and full blade takeoff :)
@exquisitelytae3050
@exquisitelytae3050 5 лет назад
I don’t think it has anything to do with body type. The women who have shitty lutz have shitty technique and that’s all there is to it.
@jonathanm.9801
@jonathanm.9801 3 года назад
Nah I don’t think it has to do with body type. There’s slimmer women like Yuna Kim with proper lutz technique. There’s more muscular women like Tonya Harding with proper lutz technique. Body type might be a factor, but this is the highest level of skating. I don’t think judges should excuse bad lutz technique because of body type.

she always has had an outside edge lutz

all jumps are made correctly! even idiots understand that.)))
@kadenfoley3514

...in figure skating, the type of jump is dependant on the take-off, and the only difference between a lutz and flip is the outside edge on a lutz and the inside edge on a flip - so of course it matters, because if a skater does it wrong, they could be getting the points for a lutz when it's closer to a flip, especially in a situation, like this, where the judges ignore these things.
