Considering this is only a short drive from home it's always interesting to check out our own doorstep . To this day we have never caught a monster in those waters . Let's paddle a bit and check out this fish nursery . Is the Clyde alive or dead ?

That was great, Nico! Blown away by your beautiful lakes. Soup looked great! Perfect lunch for a day on the water.

Not to piss on anyone's chips but the Firth of Clyde is an ecological disaster area. I have fished it since I was around 10 years old in the mid 80s (mum has a caravan on the site in this video). Back then it was alive, the simplest of tackle and some mussel/lug/rag from the shore would result in scores of codling, coalies and plaice, all around the size of those 'nice big fish' you're landing. Guys on boats or fishing with more specialist tackle from the shore would be pulling in cod up to 20lbs. They let inshore trawling and destroyed it, and quickly. It was a fish desert for years, with only the summer mackerel run (on occasion) producing any decent sport. It was almost an extinction event, and happened over a decade in front of my eyes. Thankfully it has improved, as you've demonstrated, and smaller nursery fish are out there. Mackerel runs have been excellent the last two years, and there's an abundance of seals, porpoises and gannets. But it is only 'alive' in a more recent context, and should still be viewed as an example of the damage that can be done with poor regulation.

I agree but its getting better maybe in many years some larger fish will start to appear.

You show the Clyde at its best these days, Nico. I remember the early 70's before trawlers ruined loch long and the Gantocks which killed off the fishing for years. With restrictions on these commercials it could get back if the commercials leave it alone. Again, well done and stay safe.

Great to see cod getting caught but apart from a few inshore ,wreck ,reef marks the outer and lower Clyde saltcoats irvine etc is almost dead ,shell fish and prawn boats have devastated the sea bed I worked on the prawn boats out of Largs so seen the damage first hand unfortunately and also had a boat in ardrossan marina for years sold it last year as fishing was so bad got a sib and go down the mog for better fishing

Well done guy's, I seen you setting up at the Narrows at about 07.15 hrs. Was already past you on my way to work or I would have stopped and said hello. I will try my best to catch some today but "there are no fish in the Clyde" you caught them all. 🐠

Why were you trying to pull the fishs bottom jaw off when holding it. Its Scotlands sea fish no touugh American bass
@NicolasValentinScotland
@NicolasValentinScotland Месяц назад
Did you ask the Americans why they do it , certainly I did not . Ask them and let minnow .
@789stv

@@NicolasValentinScotland The bass are a lot tougher and different shape than delicate sea fish. You will bugger up their jaw holding them like that then they have a problem feeding when they go back. Ouch.

Think I’m watching these just to see what soup you’ve got this week nick!!!! Think I’d have one of those cod for dinner though….. Great work guys…. You always seem to have so much fun in your fishing. A lot of anglers nowadays seem to forget that part of it….
