The Quiksilver All 80's All Day Vert Challenge was held in Orlando, Florida at SurfExpo on January 7th, 2011. Some of the biggest names in 80's skateboarding came out to relive the glory days of vert skating, and give the huge crowd at SurfExpo a glimpse into the past. It was a contest, a reunion, and a party all rolled into one. There were so many great stories and so much great skating we couldn't cut it down to a couple minutes. So here's a full 12 minute video to show everyone that couldn't be there exactly what went down. When the contest was done, Tony Hawk took first place.

I like both. it's just that there are more tricks to do when street skating so in skateboard video games I tend to street skate a little more often

no one wants or probably knows how to build vert ramps.in my town theres a decent little half pipe and theres a big park built by spohn ranch and everyone wants to skate the same little rail.probably because its over run with 20 yr old hipsters on scooters.usually about 30 or more.those are for tweens or when nobodys looking.they look dumb riding em how they have both hands below there stomache and feet together in a semi squat position.looks like theyre pushing out a turd.bunch of TURD PUSHERS crowding the skateboard park.theres also a newly built awesome dirt jump track with all skill levels.no one goes there anymore.the city built it. they want to crowd the skatepark because it has little rails.no one wants to do the big stuff.go small and stay home is the Thrasher attitude of newark ohio.bunch of turd pushers sayin shit like STOKED and SICK.lol

I heard that was so rad that even Stephen Hawking busted out some killer vert tricks too. Damn...some of those skaters havent been seen in years. Brought back some memories. I still miss Savannah Slammin.

I feel so very fortunate to have just been a little kid in the 70s when Stacy Peralta was shredding with the Z-Boys then a teenager in the 80s worshiping the Bones Brigade and Animal Chin. Stuck on the South Side of Chicago so no skating or BMX Freestyling for like 6 months outta the year. We lived and died with the magazines and the VHS tapes via mail order. Really loved seeing Hosoi, McGill, Steadham, and of course the Birdman. Could never repay you all for the wonderful childhood of removing skin and breaking bones the hard way. Wishing you all Peace, Health, and Prosperity.

These were my childhood hero's. My brother and I used to have an 8' halfpipe in the backyard that Mark Lake and Lonnie Reiter used to come and skate. Our house was 30 yards from the beach so we'd have 20 surfboards, 20 bikes, and 20 skateboards littering the yard in 1984. When we'd get skated or surfed out we'd all pile in the family room and either watch the original Bones Brigade or the Quiksilver's Performers movie. My parents we're very cool to allow this to be board central.

those who gave a thumbs down on this video, don't know what they're looking at! The 80's made History in skateboarding. It was the peak focal point of when skateboarding was Huge, being reinvented with new innovative tricks, which is why the sport became so popular!

What I love about the tricks they do was so much was in the name of style. I get bored watching vert contests today. Every run is about the number of rotations a ala Sean White (biggest bore on vert). This contest brought it all back, the handplants, slides, boneless, etc. Just watch Hawks run. Half those tricks wouldn't make the scoreboard today but damn they look way cooler.

+Mihály Spenger yeah guys no need to bash skating street or vert. I️ like both styles however I️ think transition and vert is more fun for me personally. I️ just wish the Midwest had a vert ramp. There are a couple of good bowls but that’s it. The closets vert ramp if your from Chicago is in Florence Kentucky I️ believe. So most people skate street around here. Flip tricks require a lot of muscle memory and skill. I️ can respect that. Vert is fast and acrobatic. Both gnar as fuck at high level. Relax. drink a beer. and skate. In that order !!

PLEASE, PLEASE bring this even back to Orlando, FL. Advertise it here, on ESPN, social media and I bet the place would be SOLD OUT! Turning people away at the door! This is awesome and here in Orlando there's STILL alot of old school skaters now turn professionals that still love to skate.

I skated vert, quarter, launch ramps, and some street as a kid in the 80s. I never got super good at it but I can tell you that half pipe skating is a high of weightlessness that the other stuff doesn't cut. I liked to surf as well and feels like floating on a cloud, great life. Vert should come back with these modern skaters today, they got the street tricks so they would bring a new style to vert. I had a Tony Hawk board like the one Tony skated here, just different color.

Good lord. Talk about bringing back some old names that I had forgotten all about. Henry Guittirez (sp, sorry), always liked his deck. Buck Smith and Jeff Hedges! Wow. The eggplant kid from Chin!!! Very fun. I can't believe Hosoi STILL has those shorts! (just watched the Vision contest where Jeff Phillips won)
