Ditching the fork spring and going with air is quite the trend for 2015 motocross machines. Dirt Rider shows you how the new air forks work and what you need to know.

I have a decent concern I think. Air when constantly compressed and released creates heat. Heat creates expansion of the air molecules. Now after a 30min +2 moto I would be safe to assume your fork pressure is going to be higher than what you initially set. so why at all is this a positive/progressive change when prolonged riding can change your suspension setting involuntarily? If I'm wrong by all means please correct me I'm new to this air fork stuff.

You have a air bleeder on the top of the fork also to get rid of the extra psi it gained from exactly like you said heat. Sorry I know it’s 4 years later lmao

This may sound stupid but, how could it possibly be better supporting the bike through one fork leg?
@toadamine
@toadamine 7 лет назад
marcus mcc it's cheaper to install air than a metal spring. air suspension has been around forever... mostly in big rig trucks and busses... it rides like crap, but it's way cheaper to build, and fairly adjustable for varying load weights... because you don't have to swap springs to get a different rate, just add or remove air.

i know right. one fork is fighting the other. one wanting to rebound and one slowing the rebound. seems weird to me. i dont know about these, but traditional forks there isnt much stopping them from trying to twist the wheel/ axle. like, if you remove the wheel they can go up and down and rotate etc independently.

I've done my best to dial in the Showa SFF (using Pro Circuits recommendations) but there just isnt enough support at the end of the stroke and the wheel starts getting headshake. Also the start of the stroke suffers from sticktion! Had enough.... getting rid of the air springs and installing K-Tech's spring system!!

Air suspension on mountain bikes is amazing, but I think it is not sturdy enough for motocross

I have a 2016 KX450F and over the holidays sent off the forks to have them converted to spring and got them back this week and wasn't told a word about adjusting them or anything. The damping side obviously looks/is the same and the prior air side now has no air valves on top of course but still has the balance air chamber and when I shake the spring side tube I can hear the spring rattling in the tube, what gives? As it's a long holiday weekend, any advice would be appreciated.

Ok dirtrider ,now this is what I have a question about as I do have a 15' kx450....once I set all three chambers lets say at stock setting inner-145 outer-7 balance-131....now when I unscrew the pump from any of the valves I'll get a pssst of air escaping,so I re-install the pump to check the pressure and it has dropped?? Do you have a solution for this or do I compensate the amount of pressure so that it will at least be close as possible when I do unscrew the pump from the valve? Any info will be appreciated,thxs
@kidzcannon
@kidzcannon 10 лет назад
its normal. i think you can get some pump which eliminate this, but i just put a bit more pressure in so when i detach the pump it will go to the press i want
@jameswaltonjw601

ok i'll check into another pump

The valve is special. It's different from the wheel valve. When You disconnect the pump the chamber in fork is already closed. So the "pssst" you hear is only air from the pump not from the chamber in fork. So when You set 150psi and disconnect the pump, in chamber stays 150psi. But when you attach the pump again, the air from the chamber goes to pump. After that You see 140psi because some air go to pump and decrease pressure.

See other comment on here with good explanation. When you disconnect, you don't lose air. You lose it when you reconnect.

Any one can help me??? need a parts of left showa 2015 from my new Suzuki 450 2015. I don't want buy a new left bar only need internal cylinder of rebound

Springs please..... It's obvious this is a sales gimmick and they are cheaper to produce for the OEMs. The guys I ride with don't even do basic maintenance and now the OEMs expect them to check 3 fork pressures and 2 tire pressures? Pahlease..... They don't even know how to set sag!

Yep, total sales gimmick. Hence why magazines have said all 2015 bikes perform worse than 2014 besides Yamaha who still has coil. KTM still has coil, but the crappy 4CS, but at least it can be made to work good, unlike the air forks.

That loud, high-pitched intro actually hurt my ears. Much louder than the volume of the video, and of most videos. Not cool.

not a gimmick. the forks are considerably lighter!!!
@toadamine
@toadamine 7 лет назад
Brandon Quenneville I think you need to look up the definition of "gimmick" if lighter is better, why aren't we all riding trials bikes on motocross tracks? that's right, because their suspension sucks... because it's super light...

Regular coil spring fork are better, these air forks are just damn confusing.

So just becouse coil springs are more simple to understand they are better? Explanation on that one please.
