All About Blue Egg Layers + 17 Blue Egg Laying Chickens! 

I was so excited when my Easter Egger got old enough to have her first blue egg! Like the crazy chicken lady I am, I had to take pictures of it and share it with everyone I knew! 🤣

I love having a mixed laying flock and get a variety of egg colors. White, shades of cream to brown, green and blue.

Good job fellas ! As a youngster, looking thru the chicken hatchery mail order magazines, in the early 70's, I DREAMED of colored egg chickens and saved my allowance in order to get a couple of chicks. I still like colored egg chickens and this video was right up my alley.

I have 2 Easter eggers but they are not laying yet. One is too young but the other was in a stressful situation before I got her. She is now finally calming down. May not lay until next spring

We've got 8 Americaunas in a herd of 28 other assorted brown egg layers. We have Amaricaunas, Production Blues, Buff Orpingtons, Speckled Sussex, Isa Browns, Bard Rocks, and Barneveilders. We had over 40 laying hens before a predator got some. At any rate, the predator ate the ducks, and the easier to catch hens, so now we get a large percentage of colored eggs. I think the blue eggs look really nice, but, one thing that I have noticed is that they are thinner shelled than the rest of our eggs. All of the chickens are cared for exactly the same. Free range, free choice oyster shell, and the feeder is always full of feed, and so is the waterer. The brown eggs are all nice with a hard thick shell, (especially from the Barneveilders). We get the occasional shell less egg, or deformed less than desireable egg from the brown egg layers too. But, I noticed that if the blue eggs are rough the shell is thin. We don't get brown eggs that are rough like the blue eggs. And, not all of the blue eggs are rough either. With our Americaunas we get a range of egg colors from light blue to olive green, and I have only noticed this with some of the light blue eggs.

Love this video! It's great that you mention whenever a breed is known for being friendly -- in my experience, any "pretty" chickens (or ones that lay pretty eggs) are some of the hardest to handle -- though, usually it's because they have better instincts. I would love a similar video about duck breeds and their egg colors. I was originally interested in ducks for meat but as a baker, I find that duck eggs make unbeatable curds and custards, and add incredible color to things like yellow cake.

I've been going through your guy's videos the last few evenings and watching alot I haven't seen before. I always appreciate your guy's down to earth regular guy aptitudesand behavior. Some people get just stupid in front of a camera lol. And you knowledge and research is appreciated and that goes without saying. I'm here in Grande Prairie county northwestern Albetta. Farm and oil country. Oils all under the farms lol. There are a few Hobby Farm Groups in the area. The Peace country its known as after the Peace River. Alot of hobby farms and acreages. I share your videos on the pages. People from both the Albetta and British Columbia Peace region like your videos. B.C. is only an hour and a half from Grande Prairie city. Anyway keep up the work. in your experience, does it make any difference if the feed has more copper in it? does that affect the strength of the blue egg color? Love the list of blue egg layers and hope to try out a couple new ones that you mentioned.
