@@BBK83 Haha, well I hope you made it to the part where I talk about him. If Riley is the kind of guy we should be happy settling for, then the bar is on the floor. Buffy deserves more than someone who's main selling point is that never tried to kill her (much). Name one good thing about him that isn't a version of "he's nice". And it has to be something consistent. Yeah, he was funny, for like 3 lines. He was supportive, when he was not being wildly unsupportive. He was caring, when he was not being jealous, or mistrusting, or cradling his fragile ego. He was loyal, for like, a little bit. Buffy deserves better than Angel and Spike, but Riley ain't it
@@ASMRvelous I can see your point. The only argument I have besides "he's nice" is that he's normal. 😂 But the angel /buffy relationship was just too much. Too much sappy for me. Riley seemed more of a normal person. . But Spike is still my favorite for Buffy. I really felt that once he did love her, he was just on point. He knew what she needed, he listened to her, he helped her, and he wasn't overly squishy, lovey dovey gooey grossy like Angel was. Guess who wasn't my favorite for Buffy 😂
Your description of Tara is so beautiful and is exactly how I feel about her. I love that Tara and Willow find each other and I love that it starts out as a secret but as the episodes progress and they learn about each other and themselves, it blossoms into this gorgeous relationship between two people who absolutely love each other. It's the most beautiful relationship I've ever seen in a show, I don't think two characters have made me happy/sad cry as much as those two and I really, really wish Buffy could have found someone like Tara.
Yes! Exactly! I wish that Buffy would have gotten someone like Tara. I agree, it's the most beautiful relationship. I feel like Tara isn't given enough credit by a lot of viewers. She is such an incredibly strong character that shows so much growth, especially in season 6. The way she cares for Dawn, the way she confronts Willow with herself and doesn't keep enabling her, the way she is a confidant for Buffy, the way she handles Spike after that, etc etc. I love her so much. I got a comment on here in which someone said they personally think Tara isn't that great and it made me so ANGRY inside, hahaha. You can talk trash about any other of my fav characters and I won't mind, they're all deeply flawed, but leave Tara out of this! Haha
@@ASMRvelous I loved when her and Willow were taking care of Dawn after Buffy died, it was like a snapshot of what their lives could have been like in the future. I could imagine Tara and Willow having their own family living in domestic bliss, it's just so very sad. But yeah, Tara is such a stabilizing presence in the group, she is the embodiment of empathy and strength, for her to come from such an abusive family and still be kind, warm, understanding and incredibly strong says so much about her as a human being. I really don't understand how someone could find her not interesting or great.
@@Enrique_S Yes, I fully agree. Just because she didn't get the most exciting story lines or the funniest jokes doesn't impact the quality of the character, but I guess some people can't see beyond that. Or it's just like real life, where introverted, shy people often get seen as boring or uninteresting, if only people knew!
3 things. The look on Willow's face when Oz leaves. The stammer in Tara's voice when she says "You have to be with the one you love". And the sequence; Tara, "I am, you know". Willow, "What?". Tara, "...yours". OMG!
It is so, so, so beautiful. Such a powerful scene. Losing Oz broke my heart, but Tara patched it right up and overflowed it. To answer you other questions, I've only seen Angel once. But instinctively I'm still going to go with Fred/Illyria. Tara is my favourite character, but she remains a side character. This is her beauty, she shines from on the side and influences everyone around her in the best ways. But her story on its own is not as strong as that of Fred and later Illyria, in my opinion. Which is why I'm going to go with that answer.
@@ASMRvelous last time I went through the whole thing, I referenced a list on a page called the watcher's council. It gives you the optimal order to watch both shows so you catch every reference. Highly recommend.

@@gemmasidney8938 I've never mentioned it in any of the videos but yes, having only seen it once pretty much sums it up. It's nice, it's entertaining, I don't hate it, but I don't love it. The reasons that make me love Buffy just aren't present in Angel. It's a decent show, but it's not for me. Also, I don't know if it was inexperience on Boreanaz' part or bad writing for the character, but I didn't feel he could carry the show. I liked him a lot in Bones (for a couple seasons, because yawn), but in Angel he's just cringe most of the time, in my personal opinion. The only time Angel as a character worked for me was in season 1 of Buffy when he just mysteriously dropped in every now and then, delivered a couple of lines and then disappeared into the shadows.
I knew from your opinion on Xander that we’d have the same view of Riley. I hate that the writing tries to shove it down our throats that Riley’s such a great solid guy, when as soon as he finds out about Buffy being the slayer he shows he can’t respect all that she is and he doesn’t listen to her saying no to him. Like sure he’s not violent or soulless but he doesn’t respect her boundaries or trust her and often talks to her really badly
Exactly! His fragile ego should get a separate credit because damn. He is incapable of accepting Buffy as an equal, let alone superior to him. I wanted Buffy to have a good guy, a solid relationship, but this was just not it and it annoys me that they try to sell it as such. The bar is on the floor if Riley is the supposed to be answer. I died when you described Riley as 'uncooked rice'. I always found his part (and the whole initiative storyline) really dull. I'm glad I'm not alone in that aha!

Riley is mostly a good guy but he wasn't right for Buffy. He was much better off with the woman he ended up with. In any case Buffy isn't meant to date normal guys, it would be weird if she did frankly.
Fred might have changed the world had she not been sucked into the world of the supernatural. With enough Discoveries in physics, she might have figured out Fusion. Tara was a sweetheart but she wasn't going to change the world. Also in canon Fred apparently ceases to exist rather than dying and going to heaven because of Illyria, not sure if that is true or not but Tara at least probably went to heaven.
I hadn't heard of it, but I looked it up and immediately know that it is not the book for me. Just reading the summary made me feel angry. People that accept their ASD with "thanksgiving and joy" are privileged as fuck and they and their books need to stay very far away from me. No offense to you, it's a harmless recommendation, you couldn't have known :)

And nice is great, but generally it's not enough. People deserve to want more than nice. Sometimes it is enough. This video was quite a bit longer at first because I talked a bit about my parents' relationship. I cut it all out because it was a bit personal. But my mom chose my dad for that same reason, because he was nice and dependable, and that was all. And for them, it worked. My mom had a very bad experience in a previous marriage and never wanted to end up in a similar situation, so she chose nice. But nice through and through, so not like Riley who's just nice until wounded or provoked. And they were happy together, but still my dad worried about if it would hold up after he retired and she had to be around him all the time. Unfortunately they didn't get the chance to find that out.
Personally, I find Tara a bit bleak. Nice, intelligent, sweet, sure, but to me, not very interesting. Spike, Buffy, Faith, Willow, those are my beloved characters.
