Don't know if anyone has posted this, but here goes. If your tincture is for a topical ( like yarrow for repelling bus like mosquitos 90% isopropyl alchohol is good as well & you can muddle fresh herbs with a wodden mudler much like annie's tool if you're in a hurry. Also if you "can" them syrups are great for kids herbals. good crafting everyone! Thanks Annie!

I honestly feel like I've learnt more abut herbal medincine making in your two videos than in numerous books, websites, mini series etc read over the years. I've been teaching myself herbalism slowly for several years now (this year I've been really making a conscious effort to buckle down and really study this craft) and what I've found is most resources with tell you the hows of medicine making, but not the whys, and I feel like the whys are so important to the understanding of medicine making, so thank you, Annabel, for gifting us with your knowledge, I hope I can use this knowledge and pay it forward someday 🙏💚🌼🍀

I would love a video about how you utilize these remedies in general and how you decide which ones you make. I find it hard to decide which ones to make, while the plants are in their harvest stage without knowing if you'll need this specific remedy. An example: About half a year ago I made a plantain salve because I thought it would be handy to have around. I haven't had a wound or a burn or anything so far, which is nice, obviously. But I also haven't been able to use the salve for its intended purpose and I don't want it to go to waste. On the other hand, I didn't forage any nettles in spring because I don't struggle with unirany tract infections or anything like it. But recently somebody I know had a problem with a kidney stone where a nettle tincture would've come in handy.

Thank you so much, I've seen tinctures in the witchcraft community but never thought to use them for magic, using them as medicine makes much more sense.

Thank you so much for this!!!! I was just about to start trying to make my first tincture based on Cunningham's instructions in Incense, Oil & Brews. He mentions using dry herbs only so I didn't think you could use fresh herbs but, it's great to know you can. He also suggests using a small bit of glycerin or castor oil to stabilize the fragrance in the alcohol but, it appears that step isn't necessary. Also, I didn't realize you could make a tincture of glycerin alone. Since I bought some maybe I'll try it to see how it turns out.

I’ve heard of using a weight, even a clean stone, to keep light/floating material below the surface for fermentation. I suspect that would work well here, too, especially because alcohol is a poor solvent of minerals.

This was great, thanks again. I do have a question. I tinctured peppermint and some of the leaves had a white tinge to them, which I am assuming was powdery mildew or possibly some kind of mold. I thoroughly rinsed the leaves, but it didn't come off and the white dots are now in the liquid. Do you think I can strain and use or should I reject the entire batch and start anew? The plant keeps getting the white on the leaves so it is difficult to avoid. Would the 100 proof alcohol possibly kill any mold that is there and make it safe to use?

Thank you! Such a beautiful video! The higher alcohol content the the more toxic making tinctures can be…40% to 50% is best. Your menstrum is very important when making tincture…plants such as mallow, mullein is when you use 50% alcohol due to the the plants mucilage properties… other than that 40% is safe and very effective! Also I prefer to set my tinctures in a sunny window until decant time…sun infusing your tincture adds so much more benefits, there’s really no reason to hide your tinctures in the dark? I been practicing herbalism for 12+ years and the wisdom is priceless, there’s always something to learn when making herbal tinctures.
