Just had to comment as to how much I appreciate your teaching style, Steph’s camera work, your captioning of plant names so I can easily screenshot for shopping, the quality closeups, everything about your channel is pleasing to someone who is having a more “senior” experience in hearing, sight and learning. Jam packed full of vital know how, I appreciate your generosity.

When we moved to NC, I was amazed each spring with the daffodils. They were punny in my south Tx garden. Now, I have 5 varieties… a little short of 30,000 named varieties!😊

Good to hear about moving and dividing them. Someone else I recently watched said to do it in the fall. Who can find them then! Thanks to you I plan to divide some after they start to die back! Thanks for your common sense approach to gardening!! I did order from Colorblends last year and they are performing beautifully with them multiplying already!

Great video! Daffodils are such workhorses in the early spring garden. I’m so smitten with tulips, but struggle in the rainy PNW to have them look good for very long. Daffodils are much tougher and less bothered by rain. I planted Topsy Turvy in containers last year and they looked like a bowl of sherbet. So fun to have so many varieties to plant.

I have also had good luck with Colorblends -- very few bulbs that I have to toss, so they clearly have effective quality control. It's frustrating to open a bag of bulbs and find many desiccated or rotted! They don't have as many different varieties as some specialists but they have a nice well balanced selection and excellent blends. Not to mention good prices. I had some extra Gigantic Star late last fall so I potted them up and put them in my garage as an experiment. I have been bringing them in over the last month to bloom in my kitchen and they are magnificent. Outside we are still at the crocus stage in Zone 6b but the daffs are definitely gearing up. This was an excellent video for anyone who is interested in daffs -- they are so worth the small effort of planting them.

Planted colorblends daffs this past fall…queens day and Winston Churchill along a rock wall…in between hucheras and echinacea. They are just about getting ready to pop open! I am so excited.

I love all your daffodils! Looks like I need to get some of the ones you have that have multi blooms. They are so showy! I planted red onions in between mine and a border of dwarf blue kale. Then, all the perennials will take them over after I harvest all those veggies. No space goes unused💚🍀💚

Thank you, Jim and Stephany, for the video! After watching it, I walked our yard and took pictures of the different kinds of daffodils blooming, scattered all throughout the backyard and front grove. I saw some that you showed in the video! Getting ready for our cold snap and found bushel buckets in the shed to cover the bareroot plants I planted in February that are starting to leaf out (dogwoods, spice bushes, blueberry bushes, and hydrangeas). Also have some sheets...I'm ready this time!

Ice Follies is one of my favorite varieties, it performs well in my zone 9b garden. We get a fair amount of crossover in bloom time between early, mid & late blooming daffs because our winters are generally very mild & short.

Love daffodils. Also love colorblends I moved to a house with daffodils planted around 2 large ash trees that died and were taken out. So now I have “ fairy rings “ in my yard. Did dig them up and got so many to spread around, but not all. (Zone 5 Indiana) just started blooming here this week

For any others that are in warmer zones, I found Summer Snowflakes (Leucojem aestivum) do pretty well for me zone 8b Texas. The ones I left in the ground from spring 2022 bloomed this year and have started naturalizing! And another is Portuguese Squill (Scilla Peruviana). Hardy zone 7-10, need loose, lean soil.

I live in Central Texas, and my narcissus, paperwhites, which I received as a Christmas gift 5 years ago, have never rebloomed. After the initial blooms and foliage died back, I planted the bulbs around a rose bush. They should get plenty of sun in the winter. I get green leaves but no bloom. I bundle the leaves and let them die before removing them. I wonder why they don't bloom again?

I have Jetfire daffs planted on a sloped, rocky side-of-the-house walkway underneath some roses that leaf out much later. Very pretty, small flowers with bright yellow reflexed petals and orange cup 10 inches high. I ordered some Thalias but they came up yellow instead of white, so this past fall I planted more. They're (supposed to be) pure white, fragrant, and they look graceful with space between the petals. My other new one for this year is Double Poets, a very ruffly wild looking white one. All mine are still under ground, except the Jetfires whose tips are just poking up under the snow.

Hi Jim! Love your videos! As a beginner gardener, it would be so helpful if you could point out the names of some of the surrounding plants, trees and bushes that make your garden space so beautiful! Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience! 🌷🌷🌷

Oh my! Jim does identify the plants, often with captions right on the screen. I take screenshots with those labels and keep them in a separate album on my phone (& on my iPad) for future reference and as a wish list. Jim and Stephany are by far some of the best at labeling the plants in their videos and at labeling their videos - check out their playlists! Very detailed!

Beautiful daffodils! I appreciate all the information you give about each one including the fragrance potency. And I am looking forward to more about the late daffs and the tulips. I have two questions I hope you or someone else out there will answer. First, was the shrub in back of the Tom Pouce daffodils a witch hazel and if so what variety? I’m used to seeing yellow ones, not white and it’s gorgeous! Second, about 15 years ago I planted a yoshino cherry and then planted a circle of daffodils under it. Both are doing well but the daffodils definitely need to be divided. The problem is that roots of the cherry make it almost impossible to dig up the bulbs! Any suggestions for getting the bulbs out without killing the tree? 🤷🏼‍♀️

Question: This year was the first year I didn't chill my daffodils (zn 8b Texas) and all of my tulips, muscari, and hyacinths have come and gone. Only a couple of daffodil blooms came up. I ordered from the "South" section on Colorblends. Could that be why? I chilled all the other types of bulbs, only about two-thirds of those came up as well. I'm unsure if it was just an odd year or I need to chill the daffs as well. I had read that the more heat tolerant daffs don't need chilling.

If I grew daffodils in a pot can I plant the bulbs in the ground after they bloom? Would you wait until the foliage dies back? Thanks for all you do!

Great video! I have a question about bulbs. I bought somecrinium lilli bulbs. They were nice looking . I went to pot them up today & the bulb came apart in section? Is that normal? They weren’t mushy but they had an oily substation them. Have you ever seen that? I am hoping the bulbs are ok!

Maybe you mentioned this and I missed it, but I have always been a bit confused as to how to utilize daffodils in the landscape. By which I mean they pop up early, then go away, leaving a space. Should they be planted basically right beside other bulbs or plants? I know you touched on it but I am curious how close is "too close". Along the same vein: When do you know it's time to divide these?

Last year, my doubles were a bust. We had lots of rain as they were swelling to open and the outer papery covering just stuck to the blooms preventing them from opening. I tried pulling it off gently but tore the blooms.😢
