We love sharing the fluorite in our collection ! It was a lot of fun to break out rare varieties and old faves. Which one would you have picked for a closer look?

Rebecca laughing at Rob's hair was such a perfect intro, I loved that you chose to keep it! All of the specimens you showed today was so cool! My favourite though was the unique coloured one that Rebecca chose to have a closer look at. Would love to add one of those to my collection but have a feeling I would need to pay a smaller fortune for it. I did acquire a rather big fluorite cluster specimen just yesterday though, originating from Mongolia and bought on Etsy. It has perfect cubes in green with purple phantoms. The largest crystal being about 4.5 cm (almost 2 inches) across. Such a beautiful piece that I'm so happy to have in my collection!

I live in Ireland now but grew up in the UK not that far from where Blue John is mined. A school trip to the mine was definitely a contributing factor to my lifelong interest in minerals and then later, on another school trip, I saw some amazing Blue John goblets on display at a stately home (sorry, I can't remember which one). It also features in an Arthur Conan Doyle story (not Sherlock Holmes though). All these things make it one of my favourites and although I love fluorite in general and have several pieces in my modest collection, sadly I don't have any Blue John. I also wanted to say that although I have praised your videos before for being a great all-round view of the minerals and gems that you feature, this video is an example of something else I really like about them. I love the fact that the presenters (not just Rob and Rebecca although they are my personal favourites) are so enthusiastic about their subject and get a buzz out of unboxing the minerals, as well as sharing their knowledge. They also seem to take genuine pleasure in one another's love for their subject and never compete as to who has the most knowledge. But they also add lighter moments into the factual stuff too and laugh together.

I just found out that my blue John from Derbyshire is a member of the fluorite family! Went there with my Mum many years ago and got a ring and a brooch with all natural blue John in them. I’m about to take my ring in to get it enlarged because I’ve developed arthritis and my knuckles all got bigger so I have to have all of my older rings enlarged. I was hoping you would cover blue John at some point and then, here it was! I am also lucky enough to have a fluorite piece in it’s natural form like the D & D die. It’s been made into a pendant. I have been a gem and specimen collector for years and have now recently gotten back into it. I’m addicted to your channel, new favorite from a new subscriber! Thanks!

Different light sources can change the way fluorite may appear. Lights with a warmer tone may impart different colors than lights with a cooler tone, which LED tends to be. The effects are particularly noticeable for blue fluorites.

That blue singular crystal looks a lot like the big one my mom got me from a garage sale of all places. It has one point cut off to stand it on end unfortunately, but the way light is directed to all it's faces when you stick a small light up against the cut face is super cool. It's probably also from that Illinois mine, because it was a garage sale in Illinois and that same stunning cornflower blue.

I’ve heard the word cleavage a couple times in your guys videos. I don’t know what it means?
@gems
@gems Год назад
Cleavage refers to the tendency to break along planes of crystal weakness within the structure based on the strength of the atomic bonds. Many minerals have one or more cleavage planes, and they vary in ease of breakage and quality of breakage. For example, fluorite has easy perfect cleavage (it cleaves easily to produce a flat plane), and diamond has difficult perfect cleavage (it's difficult to cleave but when it happens, it produces a flat plane).
