Definitely check your local farmers for hay! Your supporting a local business, it's better for the environment, and the hay is usually much higher quality than Oxbow and Kaytee. Some will even deliver to your door or sell chew sticks (mine sells apple and birch!)

Not in my experience. I’ve bought from farms before and found rocks, leaves, and straw in the bail…. Plus, a lot of it was brown

I am from belgium and here we have a hay brand named Mucki and it sales a hay mix with more than 20 grass and herbs and since i give them this big mix they eat verry verry good their hay

Having a handful of tasty herbs at home is superuseful. My bun is a heavy hay eater and has perfect teeth, but we noticed his teeth were sightly uneven some weeks ago. He was feeling unwell due to E. Cuniculi (no organ nor neurological damage, we found it pretty soon) and was munching less hay than he uses to, so we mixed herbs with the hay and he starting munching as usual. Now teeth are normal again and has returned to normal hay eating (no herbs needed), this way we prevented a stressful dental exploration while recovering from E. Cuniculi.

I do a mixture ,and I usualy add the pellets to the bin full hay he gets vary little pellets ,he gets his fresh greens only after he has eaten his breackfast hay .he gets a tsp of banana he also gets fresh green beads grass during the summer months .

My bunnies love the meadow box! Although my little Holland lop will climb inside if the hay gets too low. So he makes us keep it full! Man I would love the one with handles! I have one of the original boxes. I would definitely get a second one down the road. Thanks for such a helpful video!

I have 11 week old buns, I was giving them Timothy hay, till I saw a local feed store had bales of Alfalfa. So I got one and have it all over the house. Unfortunately the Alfalfa isn't working for them, their poop got very small and black. But they absolutely love the taste, its like bunny nip for them so I have to mix Alfalfa and Timothy that I give them.

Kaytee hay is unfortunately not the best quality. It is very hard in texture and the pieces are cut into tiny little pieces. My rabbits are super picky about their hay and won't touch anything but Rabbit Hole hay. I wish they preferred a more affordable option, but quite frankly I'm just glad that they are finally eating the healthy amount of hay in a day after trying just about every brand on the market as well as locally grown hay. 😌 Small Pet Select is probably the next best hay in my opinion. Price wise though neither one is cheap. Ugh rabbits are expensive haha!

I buy hay for my friend's rabbit. She recently told me the rabbit is just not eating hay. She feeds the bunny pellets. I dunno how to convince her to switch to hay. I already bought some foraging treats to mix with the hay. I feel sad. Will bunnies get any issues if on a pure pellet diet? I worry about maloclussion and GI stasis.

You mention you give alfalfa to rabbits up to 3 months, do you give them all alfalfa or a mix? Got the runt of a litter, 5 weeks old, I want him to put on some weight, is it safe to just give him alfalfa or would a orchard/alfalfa 50/50 mix be better? The hay I got from my local farm was orchard hay but it wasn’t as green as the orchard hay you showed! I bought it about 3 months ago! I’ve tried small pet select and was not impressed! Is rabbit hole hay a lot better in quality?

Hi Haley! My baby bun is 10 weeks old and I've been slowly introducing leafy greens. I've tried kale and romaine, so far she is refusing to eat the veggies. I've gave it to her for days and trying to get her to eat it. She is still a baby bun so she gets unlimited pellets until she is a older age. I'm confused why she is not eating her veggies. In South Africa oat hay is the hay most people use as a main source. Rescues also use oat hay 😊

Hmm where I live mountain high is the mor available and low price hay. I did not had any problems until aprox 2 months ago. 5 year old mini rex mix was a very good hay eater. But then he stopped eating hay much and at the same time discharge from one eye. I took him to the vet in ASAP. Shock. No spurs BUT tooth roots enlogated and abscess in periorbital area. Extraction of two teeths, a month of antibiotics, pain meds, eye gel...and now we struggle with hay. :( I guess it hurts him a bit. He does eat softer type-mountain hay. and veggies, pellets. But with hay it is a struggle. No more big golden poops. Any recomendation on what to do?

This should be discussed with a rabbit savvy veterinarian as most likely there is an underlying medical issue causing the low weight.

Hi! I noticed you said 4 weeks. Did you mean 4 months? Yes, a rabbit that is 4 months old should be eating alfalfa hay. However, a rabbit of 4 *weeks* of age should still be drinking its mother's milk. A rabbit shouldn't be sold, bought, or adopted until 8 weeks of age. This is very important, as baby rabbits cannot survive without its mother's milk. I really don't mean to be a downer- I know how exciting it is to get a new rabbit! But if you can prevent this, please, PLEASE do not separate the bunny from its mother before 8 weeks of age. Which might mean not bringing the rabbit home. Have you looked up adoption centers in your area that have rabbits older than 8 weeks? That might be a more suitable option for you! If you have no choice (and I really stress this) and have to bring the 4-week-old rabbit home for some reason, you should feed the rabbit goat milk (plus one tablespoon of 100% heavy whipping cream with no sugar) 30 ml a day, divided into two feedings a day. You should feed the rabbit out of a syringe at it's own pace. This should continue until the rabbit can start digesting alfalfa hay at 8 weeks (or two months) of age. I hope that helped! :>

it's funny that in my country it's so difficult to find timothy hay, they just sell some mixes of different types of hay that are kind of too dry and yellow.. it's so frustrating😭 like it's ESSENTIAL for rabbits, why is there no timothy hay available!!

Try putting herbs in it or make toys with the hay and try oat hay as most rabbits like it as it a treat hay well that is what I know.
